Audio: Activist Dilar Dirik profiles the Kurdish struggle for self rule – against ISIS, European political cynicism, and the Western left’s expectations (Kurdistan)

Tuesday, February 24th, 2015

Here we share an audio link sent to us with an interview with Dilar Dirik. Even though we do not share many of the liberal-democratic language and perspectives of the interviewer and interviewee, we are happy to put aside dogma for a moment because freedom and understanding means destroying the cages we build for ourselves as much as those that are built for us, as we seek out new worlds and affinities.

Rojava vs The World: The radical fight for survival, independence & freedom

Activist Dilar Dirik profiles the Kurdish struggle for self rule – against ISIS, European political cynicism, and the Western left’s expectations.

Dilar traveled to Rojava with an international academic delegation, and she has written about the politics of Kurdistan in “The ‘other’ Kurds fighting the Islamic State” for Al-Jazeera and “Be on the right side of history – with the brave people of Kobanê” for the Kurdistan Tribune.

Dilar Dirik is Kurdish activist and refugee, and a PhD student at the University of Cambridge. She blogs at Jin, jiyan, azadî.

War against ISIS/Daesh: YPG Commander Mahmud Berxwedan – “We Will Crush ISIS Anywhere in Syria”

Friday, February 20th, 2015

Mutlu Civiroglu interviews YPG Commander Mahmud Berxwedan

After liberating the city of Kobane, you began operations to liberate villages. What is the situation on the eastern, western and southern fronts? How far have you reached?

Mahmud Berxwedan: After liberating Kobane, we started a second advance. Since that day, approximately 20 days have passed. Within this time period, we carried out our operations successfully. Day by day, we are moving forward on all three fronts. We are liberating the land around Kobane bit by bit. On the western front, we have reached the point where we made close contact with ISIS on September 15th, we are somewhere near Shexler, there are 3-4 kilometers between us and the Euphrates. Around here, there are a small number of villages that are not yet under our control. Our operations are still ongoing around the villages of Kechelo, Jabalfaraj, Sevalo and Derbazin, and we will recapture these villages one by one. (more…)

Interview by CCF – Imprisoned Members Cell with Alfredo Cospito (Greece, Italy)

Monday, December 1st, 2014

INTERVISTA CCF/ALFREDO COSPITO

From the Greek prisons to AS2 unit of the prison of Ferrara: a few words of “freedom”.

Interview by CCF to myself.

Before answering your questions, I’ d like to stress that what i’ m about to say is my own truth. One of the many points of view, sensitivities and individual nuances within that crucible of thought and action that goes under the name of Fai-Fri.

Informal federation that, rejecting any hegemonic temptation, represents a tool, a method of one of the components of anarchism of praxis. Anarchism of praxis that only when it is informal, without being forced into organizational structures (specific, formal, of synthesis) when it doesn’t seek the unbearable consent (therefore rejects politics) it can be recognized in a wider chaotic universe called “black international”.

To understand this better, Fai-Fri is a methodology of action that only some of the sisters and brothers of the black international practice, it’ s not an organization nor a simple collective signature, but a tool that aims towards efficiency, whose objective is to reinforce cells and each comrade of praxis through a pact of mutual support based on three key points: revolutionary solidarity, revolutionary campaigns, communication between groups or individuals:

REVOLUTIONARY SOLIDARITY

Each group of action in the Anarchist Informal Organization is engaged in showing revolutionary solidarity to comrades who are arrested or are on hiding. This solidarity will show itself mainly through armed action and the attack against men and structures responsible for the imprisonment of comrades. Solidarity will always be practiced as an indispensable feature of anarchist way of life and action. Of course we do not refer to legal and technical support: bourgeois society offers a sufficient number of lawyers, social workers and priests, which means that revolutionists can be engaged in another kind of activities. Kobane: Interview with Meysa Ebdo, YPJ commander (Kurdistan)

Monday, October 13th, 2014

The following piece is translation of a new interview with Meysa Ebdo, a YPG/YPJ commander in Kobanê, in which she speaks about the course of the battle and its larger significance for the relations between Kurds and Turkey. It was conducted by Sedat Sur for ANF and carried by Özgür Gündem.

-The attacks of the ISIS gangs on Kobanê are entering their 24th day and fighting is now taking place in the city itself. Can you share a little about the current conditions inside Kobanê?

The attacks against us have been going on for around a year and a half. ISIS is now using all means at its disposal to attack us. Our people, together with the YPG/YPJ, have faced these attacks with a great spirit of resistance. We have lost martyrs in every village and on every hill. However our goal is protect our people and our land. The latest attacks began along five fronts at once. ISIS has gathered forces from around both Iraq and Syria and is attacking us savagely using its heaviest ground weapons against us. Our resistance has entered its 24th day and their goal and dream is to make Kobanê surrender. However, we as the YPG/YPJ and the Kurdish people have shown ourselves as a great example of resistance. The gangs have also suffered many blows and setbacks in Şengal (Sinjar), Maxmur and in the Cizirê Canton. This time they have once again directed their attacks against Kobanê which has been under embargo for a year and a half. They had dreams of entering into Kobanê for Eid. They said they would perform their Eid prayers in Kobanê however the sacrificial spirit and resistance of YPG fighters and the honorable stance exhibited by our people spoiled the dreams of ISIS. Interview mit Nikos Maziotis und Pola Roupa (Revolutionärer Kampf)

Friday, September 26th, 2014

Interview with the Assembly for Antispeciesist Action, Athens, by comrades in Spain (Fiera)

Friday, September 26th, 2014

The following interview was given by the Assembly for the Antispeciesist Action in May 2013 and published by comrades in Spain in October, in the 2nd volume of the anarchist animal liberation zine “Fiera”.

In which context did the Assembly for the Antispeciesist Action in Athens arise? Which are your goals and what are the difficulties you are facing in realizing these goals?

The Assembly for the Antispeciesist Action was formed in 2010 on an individual initiative. We are an anarchist collective whose goal is to spread the word on total liberation. We feel it is important to note that by using the term “total liberation” we do not only refer to the struggle against any form of domination upon humans. We do not recognize any form of human superiority against other species and therefore the struggle for animal self-determination is an integral part of our political identity, as well as the struggle against nature’s exploitation. Our enemy is not only the core of the state mechanism but also the whole technological-industrial complex that considers human, animals and nature to be nothing more than raw material and production resources. Interview with Helmut Pohl and Rolf Clemens Wagner of the Red Army Faction (Germany)

Tuesday, September 16th, 2014

The interview was conducted by Rüdiger Göbel, Peter Rau, Wera Tichter, and Gerd Schumann of jungle Welt, left newspaper in Germany, 2007. Long live the combative memory of Helmut Pohl and Rolf Clemens Wagner of the RAF. Never forget, never forgive.

junge Welt: The media has squeezed everything possible out of the 2007 anniversary of the “German Autumn.” The events of 1977 came to a bitter end. The way it is being depicted on TV, on the radio, and in the print media constitutes a sort of hysterical coming to terms with the Red Army Faction (RAF): The Stammheim Night (Spiegel), a series; The Terror Years (Die Zeit), a special issue; The Bourgeois Children’s War, a primetime ARD documentary. How do you feel about the way in which the RAF’s history is being handled, given that this history is an important, if not the essential, component of your personal biographies?

Helmut Pohl: It’s unpleasant. To be smashed over the head with this sort of campaign of defamation, caricature, and debasement is somewhat infuriating. It has concrete consequences for Christian[2], as well. Beyond that, it seems to me that the principal component of the campaign, the two-part Aust[3] documentary on ARD, bombed. It’s already been done to death. People don’t want to hear about it anymore.

jW: You’re talking about the fuss surrounding Christian Klar during the first three months of 2007. In the case of a prisoner who has been behind bars for 24 years, relaxed conditions with the possibility of a pardon and release seems appropriate. His admittedly partisan, but essentially analytical contribution to the junge Welt Rosa Luxemburg Conference in January,[4] which in no way encouraged violence, unleashed an anti-RAF and anti-Klar onslaught from politicians and the bourgeois media. What this made clear was that a prisoner’s right to express himself does not apply to Klar. In fact, it was turned into an exceptional case for the German justice system.

Rolf Clemens Wagner: In fact, this year, we’re experiencing two approaches to dealing with the RAF. One concerns Christian. Suddenly, the question of remorse for the victims of the RAF is central. A discussion about helping to “clarify” the actions has begun. Why now? I was pardoned a few years ago, and no one asked this of me. I did not have to show any remorse. There was no discussion of me having to help “clarify” the actions. (more…)

Intervista CCF & Alfredo Cospito / Nucleo Olga FAI-FRI (Greece, Italy)

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014

UPDATE: ENGLISH VERSION

via radioazione:

INTERVISTA CCF/ALFREDO COSPITO

Dalle carceri greche all’ AS2 di Ferrara: Quattro parole in “ libertà”.

Intervista delle Ccf a me medesimo.

Thursday, August 21st, 2014

Via RHI-SRI:
(Czech, German, French and Italian versions below)

Here is the first Interview of Nikos Maziotis after his arrest. Published in the Greek newspaper “Efimerida ton Sintaktion”

1. You are a member of Revolutionary Struggle, an armed anarchist organization. Why did you choose armed struggle as a method of action?

Armed struggle is an integral part of the struggle for social revolution. It is an integral part of a revolutionary movement that seeks the overthrow of capital and the state. There is an inseparable connection between the movement and armed struggle to such an extent that a movement to be truly revolutionary needs to include armed struggle in its targets. Throughout history there has never been a victorious revolution that was not armed. Armed struggle or in other words, armed propaganda, is a very powerful tool for the fight and its political messages can be very powerful, as long as there is an overall political conception and analysis about where we act, what we want and what we aim for. In Revolutionary Struggle we believe that armed action aims at dissipating to the greatest possible social and folk classes the necessity of social revolution and of the overthrow of capital and the state. Today, especially in Greece but not only, during the fiercest attack of the imperialist capital, while the Troika and the Greek state implement a policy of social genocide, armed struggle is as necessary and timely as ever. In 2009, at the beginning of the crisis, when it still had the characteristics of a crisis of the financial system and before it became a debt crisis, we had expressed the view that a great opportunity for a revolutionary era had dawned for Greece, because the consequence of the crisis was the end of neoliberal consensus and the de-legitimization of the economic and political system in the eyes of the social majority. Under these these circumstances, targeted armed action against the regime may result in a cascade for a system with advanced interdependence in all areas and activities and acts as a proliferation risk of destabilization. Since the economic and political globalization has advanced significantly, and with it the conditions of interdependence have increased, our view has been reinforced that armed struggle is now more than ever, not only politically necessary and feasible, but also crucial for the incitement of systemic problems and conflicts that will effectively undermine the system, to its final fall. But this requires a revolutionary movement that will resort to arms. (more…)

Interview with Kostas Gournas / Interview mit Kostas Gournas (Greece)

Friday, August 15th, 2014

From RHI-SRI:

1. Can you talk about the general situation in Greece?

Currently the most multifaceted crisis that the country has seen in peacetime in recent history is in full swing. In the past 5 and a half years such profound upheavals have occurred that one might only expect to encounter in wartime. The global financial crisis of 2008 brought Greece to the top of the European debt crisis. It was set as a model for the imposition of extreme austerity across the Eurozone. In no other country has such an overwhelming “shock therapy” been imposed in such a short time, with such disastrous consequences for society – not even during the first experiments of the neoliberal school in Latin America. A therapy that devastated the economy, reducing the GDP of the country by 25%, creating nearly 2 million unemployed and forcing the majority of people to live a life below the poverty line.

Greek society is experiencing a double default. The financial one developed as follows: A huge fiscal deficit of the government inflated the ten-year bond spreads so that the Greek state could not serve the debt. The Troika’s ( IMF – EU – EIT ) control of the economy – not just the country – inflated the debt to the point that it became unsustainable. Along with the process of debt restructuring (PSI) the exposure of foreign credit institutions was replaced by Greek bonds. They that were subsequently passed on to the people having contracted new loans through transnational EFSF and ESM. (more…)
