‘Why allow it to continue?’ & other writings by Kevan Thakrar, CSC prisoner (UK)

January 30th, 2016

Since my arrival at Wakefields Close Supervision Centre (CSC), I have experienced something unlike any other prison in the pure extent of the blatant racism which is encouraged by prison officers. Benefits and bonuses are given to racist prisoners, whilst others are kept in total isolation from each other and there is little action which can be taken against the culprits.

For several weeks now the racist Islamaphobic prisoner Nathan Livesy from Manchester has been the main perpetrator of these attacks. Currently undergoing an assessment for his suitability for selection onto the CSC system following slashing another prisoners face at HMP Manchester, and expulsion from Ashworth High security hospital due to his predatory behaviour, Livesy is looking for any way possible to please his captors. He has taken to squirting urine and spitting out of the window onto the ethnic minorities which the officers deliberately place in the exercise cage directly adjacent to his cell, as well as continuously abusing them whilst the officers stand by laughing. Having made open threats to “kill the first Muslim” he sees, Livesy believes he will be returned to normal location in order to carry out his plan.

First Communique of the Individualists Tending Toward the Wild – 2016 (Mexico)

January 29th, 2016

From Tierra Maldita:

We love tranquility, we let the mouse play; when the forests whisper, we are unafraid”
-J.N.

I

Individualists Tending Toward the Wild (ITS, before “Individualities”), is
the continuation of the eco-terrorist Project begun in the year 2011. After
the death of “Wild Reaction” in 2015, we have decided to continue this
project…

II

To refresh the memories of those who may have forgotten:

We continue this declared war against the Technological System, and against
those who aim to improve and sustain it. We attack those who physically and
emotionally insist on destroying and altering the wild and untamed places
that are left.

Our acts aim to terrorize, wound, mutilate, and kill these intended
targets. We use threats, explosives, and firearms to accomplish our
immediate objectives.

Those who work toward the destruction of Wild Nature deserve punishment, so
that their acts will not continue with impunity. ITS is not a peaceful
organization that petitions governments to “punish those responsible”,
collecting signatures, and playing the absurd legal-juridical game. We
aren’t an NGO. We don’t need intermediaries to clarify things. For those
who threaten Nature there are no courts; and even if there were, we will
still take the law into our own hands as our fierce ancestors did. As we
are not interested in being a “vanguard” or being in the front lines of
this war, we attack accepting the final consequences.

Text concerning Hambach Forest (Germany)

January 29th, 2016

The conflict against RWE at Hambacher forest has intensified with every
day since the beginning of this new year.

Many individuals embracing a diverse variety of tactics have been hard
at work bringing anarchic mischief to the mine.

Some elements of practical refusal from the occupiers of the forest
include:

* The continuous barricading of the roads used by security and
construction vehicles, as well as structural damage to the bridges they
use with fire and pick axes.

*Tree-spiking and the placement of “potential improvised explosive
devices” in threatened areas of the forest, as well as more and more
barricades, platforms and tree-defenses deeper in the woods.

Reclaim The Cape – Anti-Nuclear action week 22.4.-1.5.2016 (Finland)

January 29th, 2016

So. There’s an anti-nuclear protest site at the west coast of Finland. And it’s
holding an action week between 22th of April – 1th of May, 2016, while celebrating
its first anniversary of existence. What’s all this about? To put it all in a simple
nutshell:

Fennovoima is a Finnish nuclear power company established in 2007 by a consortium of
Finnish power and industrial companies thinking it’s a mighty good idea to put up a
nuke plant at Pyhäjoki, a small municipality at the west coast of Finland – by any
means necessary. Fennovoima’s project nearly faced its much wished-for doom when
German energy giant E.ON, the main investor of the project at that time, decided
nuclear power is bad business and withdrew its money in 2012. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Sedition, Subversion, Sabotage: A Long-War Strategy for the Left’ by William T. Hathaway (USA)

January 29th, 2016

As the viciousness of capitalism engulfs ever more of us, our yearnings for change are approaching desperation. The system’s current leader, Barack Obama, has shown us that the only change we can believe in is what we ourselves create.

To do that, we need to know what is possible in our times and what isn’t. The bitter probability is that none of us will see a society in which we’d actually want to live. Even the youngest of us will most likely have to endure an increasingly unpleasant form of capitalism. Despite its recurring crises, this system is still too strong, too adaptable, and has too many supporters in all classes for it to be overthrown any time soon. We’re probably not going to be the ones to create a new society.

But we can now lay the groundwork for that, first by exposing the hoax that liberal reforms will lead to basic changes. People need to see that the purpose of liberalism is to defuse discontent with promises of the future and thus prevent mass opposition from coalescing. It diverts potentially revolutionary energy into superficial dead ends. Bernie Sanders’ “long game” campaign is really only a game similar to that of his reformist predecessor, Dennis Kucinich, designed to keep us in the “big tent” of the Democratic Party. Capitalism, although resilient, is willing to change only in ways that shore it up, so before anything truly different can be built, we have to bring it down. Read the rest of this entry »
