Moscow Anarchist Black Cross Repressions Review, April-June 2014 (Russia)

July 14th, 2014

We continue our regular summaries on repressions of anarchists, antifascists, and social activists in Russia, on obstacles which police state creates for our activity.

In April-May issue: arrests of “terrorists” in Crimea, new detentions regarding “Bolotnoya Case”, letters from political prisoners, police attack of a gig, and other. If you think, we have missed something in our article, or you know about other incidents of repression, please write to abc-msk@riseup.net.

Below you can read instructions on how to transfer funds to ABC-Moscow.

Arrest of Aleksandr Kolchenko in Crimea
Alexander “Tundra” Kolchenko, our anarchist and anti-fascist comrade, was arrested by Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB)  in Simferopol in the middle of May.

Letter appeal on behalf of John Bowden, long-term radical social prisoner, about the criminalisation of the Anarchist Black Cross (UK)

July 11th, 2014

via a comrade of Anarchist Black Cross Brighton:

In 2007 my association with the Anarchist Black Cross was considered a compelling enough reason by the prison authorities to prevent my release, despite the subsequent exposure of the lies manufactured by a prison administration regarding the nature and activities of ABC.

In the summer of 2007 following my transfer to an open jail, Castle Huntley near Dundee, after almost three decades of imprisonment, a prison-hired social worker at the jail, Matthew Stillman, submitted a report to the Parole Board in which he claimed I was linked to what he described as a “terrorist group”, specifically naming ABC, and had received visits from “terrorists” also linked to ABC. As a consequence of Stillman’s allegation I was transferred back to a maximum-security prison. Read the rest of this entry »

Update about the second hearing of the trial against Gianluca and Adriano (Italy)

July 10th, 2014

via fenrir:

On the 4th of July in the court of Roma (Italy) the second hearing of the trial against Gianluca and Adriano was held. Even though it was supposed to be with closed doors, a group of comrades managed to enter the courtroom in a moment of distraction of the security guards, in the initial bureaucratic phase of the hearing. They shouted strongly their rage against a proceeding which occurs in the complete absence of the accused. After some minutes they were jostled outside of the courtroom by the Carabineros [military police], while the judge pretended not to even notice what was going on.

We remember that the judge D’Alessandro, accepting the request from the prosecutor, decided that the trial was to be held on videoconference; both Gianluca and Adriano decided not to attend the show-trial, refusing to appear through a screen.

The prosecutor Minisci, already known by the comrades since he’s the same prosecutor in the case for the riots of 15th of October 2011 in Rome, to
reinforce the charges of 270 and 270bis (association for the purposes of terrorism) quoted also some actions that happened outside of Italy, with the aim of inventing some fictional international subversive association. He closed his speech with his request of sentence against the comrades:

- 8 years for Adriano
- 9 years for Gianluca

Next hearing will be on the 18th of July for the speech of Adriano’s defence lawyer and probably for the sentence.

Solidarity with the accused comrades!

Update on the situation of Tamara Sol – harassment and punishment (Chile)

July 10th, 2014

From instintosalvaje, translated by waronsociety:

Note by Instinto Salvaje: Our solidarity with our compañera Tamara Sol Farias Vergara is unrestricted, therefore we cannot be quiet about the situation that is happening with our compañera and her family. We only wish to express our irreducible love for our sisters and brothers in prison and for their families and close circle. And to our enemies we want to make clear our hatred with a few words and in each action that each individual and compañerx deems fitting.

To our friends, compañeros and compañeras:

We are the family of Tamara Sol Farías Vergara. As you are already aware, Tamara has been a prisoner in the San Miguel prison since January 22, 2014. In visitation on Monday, June 16, which was a family-only visit, we had serious problems with gendarmería due to the humiliating treatment we were submitted to. The guard who reviewed Tamara’s grandmother, Luisa, who is 75 years old, made her get naked and do squats, reproaching her that she was wearing a lot of clothing. It is worth mentioning that the place where the prisoners receive their families is a gymnasium with a roof but open on both sides, where the wind and rain come in, getting the entire floor wet and creating an extremely cold and damp atmosphere. Then this same official shouted at another inmate’s visitor because her months-old baby was soiled during the review, shouting at her that this could not be, that she had to change her before coming in! This mother arrived in tears to the gymnasium designated for visitation. Read the rest of this entry »

Update concerning the second session of the trial about the case of “Phoenix” Project (Greece)

July 10th, 2014

via interarma:

Today, Wednesday 2nd of July, there was the second session of the trial about the “Phoenix” Project. The 12 defendants (Andreas Tsavdaridis, Spyros Mandylas and the 10 imprisoned members of CCF) were not presented in court because they are recovering from the 8-day hunger strike in which they participated against the bill for the maximum security prisons. They also asked not to be represented by any lawyer. We remind that the trial began on June the 4th and it concerns three acts of the “Phoenix” Project (Acts 1, 2, 4). The trial was postponed to Wednesday 16th of July.

Update regarding the monstrous bill on maximum security prisons (Greece)

July 10th, 2014

via contrainfo:

After some modifications to the draft bill on maximum security prisons, the recess section of the Greek Parliament is now prepared to vote on this new law on Monday, July 7th. Perhaps it will take another summer session for the final voting, but their plan is to pass the bill no matter what… A protest gathering, supported also by anarchists, against the passage of the ‘prison reform bill’ will take place on Monday 7/7, at 18:00 in Syntagma Square, Athens.

Prisoners throughout Greece have quit their mass hunger strike since the 1st of July, promising other forms of protest on the inside (we don’t have related info as of yet).

One can never know what the fucking minister of Justice, Charalambos Athanasiou, will submit at the last minute, but according to updates so far, main modifications are supposed to be as follows:

- initial incarceration period in Type C prison units for recalcitrant inmates: (from 4 years to) 2 years;

- initial incarceration period in Type C prison units for inmates convicted to over 12 years for terrorism (article 187A of the Greek penal code), and for inmates convicted to over 15 years for criminal organization (article 187 of the Greek penal code): (from 10 years to) 4 years.

It is said that prisoners remanded on terrorism charges (under article 187A), who are still awaiting trial (not yet convicted), will also be sent to Type C prison units.

It is still a fact that inmates locked up in Type C prison units won’t have the right to furlough (days of leave from the prison).

Even if “dangerous” inmates serve 4 full years in a Type C prison, the incarceration period can be extended by prison prosecutors to 2 more years (when these prisoners are not “well-behaved”, or suddenly have further “incriminating indications” presented against them, etc.); when the additional 2 years are over, their incarceration in a Type C prison can be prolonged again to another 2-year period, and so forth…

This is all we can transmit for the time being.

Solidarity with prisoners of the State/Capital. Destroy all prisons!

Update on the case against Mónica and Francisco (Spain)

July 10th, 2014

from refractario via waronsociety:

This Friday, July 4, a ruling was made public which confirmed that Mónica Caballero and Francisco Solar will be prosecuted for terrorism. From the judge, the cops, and the press, which are working hand in hand in this case, came the assertion that they “are linked to the FAI/FRI, an international terrorist organization ‘created from insurrectionary anarchist ideology’”.

Clearly the use of these acronyms, despite having nothing to do with the claim of the attack they are accused of, is being used to justify their prosecution as terrorists, as the EU has already identified these acronyms within their list of terrorist organizations. Read the rest of this entry »

Solidarity with Jock Palfreeman and prisoners in Bulgaria – Stop brutality against prisoners

July 10th, 2014

From ABC Brighton:

A few days ago Australian anti-fascist Jock Palfreeman was assaulted in Sofia Central Prison in Bulgaria (he says it was not “too badly”) but yesterday [July 6] the same guard assaulted another prisoner, an elderly man, and some of that man’s compatriots came to his assistance. These seven were then set upon by 40 guards, who brutally beat them.

Jock, in his role of secretary of the Bulgarian Prisoners Association, phoned a number of lawyers to help defend those assaulted. Now Jock has been threatened by the same prison guard has threatened him with another beating. Read the rest of this entry »

Belarusian anarchist Dzmitry Rezanovich got a fine and deportation (Russia)

July 6th, 2014

On 3 July Dzmitry Rezanovich was fined with 15,000 Russian rubles and deportation from Russia. It is still unclear for how long it will be forbidden for Dzmitry to enter Russian territory.

The deportation date was not announced yet and some sources point that it is possible only after the fine is paid. The relatives already got papers to do so.

We would like to thank everyone who supported Dzmitry financially and morally.

Berlin: Vehicle owned by the Greek consul torched by ‘Subversives of the nihilist deed’ (Germany)

July 6th, 2014

via contra-info:

We demand nothing less than the destruction of the beast that keeps the system running.

The ruling democrats strike back with full force. Amid the crisis, they reveal their true face. A face full of enthusiasm, which humiliates, tortures, incarcerates or murders people; a face which smiles happily at the cameras of the world, while thousands of cops break up any resistance with bludgeon and tear gas just around the corner.

However they’re not yet pleased with that. Having managed to break up the resistance in the streets, the dogs of the system have now devoted themselves to crushing every resistance that still exists in prisons, through the total isolation of the prisoners. The domination uses the current intimidation of the great silent majority to take revenge on those who littered Greece in December 2008 with a conflagration. Arising from the revolt, guerrilla groups made the stiff gentlemen in Brussels gasp. Read the rest of this entry »

“Breaking the isolation” – Contribution by Alfredo Cospito for the first issue of Croce Nera Anarchica magazine (Italy)

July 6th, 2014

The following text under the title “Breaking the isolation” is a contribution by anarchist comrade Alfredo Cospito for the first issue (#0) of the Anarchist Black Cross magazine [Italy].

It is with difficulty that our words come out uncensored from the four walls of this prison. At times, however, we manage to break the isolation. We are seizing the opportunity to have a say on the new Black Cross, a project born here inside, during out-of-cell time.

Very often over recent years, there was a surrender to whining, to victimization born of anticipation· anticipation of the next “safeguarding line”, of the slogan shouted, all insufficient substitutes of the destructive action. Ever since the first days of our imprisonment, on the contrary, we have been full of optimism, a feeling which is not only ours, but is also shared with some of our fellow inmates. Optimism concrete, made by different perspectives which together in their diversity, they will succeed in defeating that “realism”, that endless, unbearable, sterile leaning towards the “social”, which has repressed so many arms. The obsessive fear of making a bigger step, so as not to scare away the “crowd”. Read the rest of this entry »

Repressions against Crimean activists: political context

July 6th, 2014

Supporting campaign for Crimean antifascist Alexander Kolchenko

Background
Crimea peninsula in the Black Sea was a part of RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic) and then since 1954 a part of Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, which were both members of USSR. After USSR collapse in 1991 the new independent state Ukraine received the territory of Crimean peninsula. Though, under the treaty between Ukraine and Russia there were considerable contingent of Russian navy on the territory.

On March, 2004, Russia redeployed supplementary units to Crimea and effectively annexed it, taking the opportunity of destabilization in Ukraine after Maidan protests. The considerable part of Crimean population concerned about possibility for nationalists to come into power in Kiev. They believed in promises to improve the economic situation in republic and supported the annexation. Most of Crimean population watch Russian TV-news which is continually broadcasting propaganda. On 11 March, 2014 the Supreme Council of Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol town council signed a declaration of independence of Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol. The meeting of parliament was classified, the building was blocked by militants without decoration. At least such atmosphere can signify that deputies were under political pressure and the very secure of the quorum on that historical meeting can raise doubts. Read the rest of this entry »

Anarchist prisoner Ihar Alinevich, author of “On the Way to Magadan” has been transferred (Belarus)

July 3rd, 2014

According to information received from ABC Belarus, Belarusian anarchist Ihar Alinevich is to be transferred to another prison colony because the colony he is in now is to be closed by the end of the summer. We don’t know to where and when he is transferred, but it makes sense to remove his address from all the lists until the new one is known. We await more information and will publish it when available.

Ελληνικές φυλακές: Αναστολή της μαζικής απεργίας πείνας κρατουμένων – Greek prisons: Suspension of mass prisoners hunger strike – Erklärung zur Beendigung des Massenhungerstreikes in Griechenland

July 2nd, 2014

Today, Tuesday 1 July we interrupt the collective pan-Greek hunger strike we started against the law making process for the high security prisons.

We interrupt the hunger strike, but we don’t end the mobilization. Rather we gather strength and we warn the Ministry of Justice that we won’t accept the working of a Greek Guantanamo, in Domokos or anywhere.

We shall be aware and opposed to the proposals of the Ministry that will be announced on Thursday, and we are ready if need be, to struggle with ANY MEANS to attack (bloodily) the legal process of building the high security prisons.

We know that nothing would be made public if we had not started the hunger strike.

Let it be known to the Ministry that against the organized silence of mass media is the BIGGEST HUNGER STRIKE that has happened (4500 participants) and that from now on we change the means of struggle and if need be we will move to dynamic forms of resistance. “Care to the carer/guards…”
