We the gremlins are squatting at Gremlin Alley, City Road, Cardiff; formally known as Spin Bowling Alley and the Giety Cinema and bingo hall.
Yesterday [4th Oct] we successfully resisted an eviction from bayliffs and harrassment from police who attended for most of the day from 10AM. Banners including “We are resisting eviction: Fuck the fucking fuckers”, “Solidarity with Alex Haigh, imprisoned for 3 months for being homeless”, amongst others being displayed. Black Iris Press are a small, DIY publishing collective who produce a zine series called Affinity, conceived as a space for critical discussion and personal reflection on different strategies for resisting and struggling against the dominant culture. We have decided to wrap up this zine series, and in so doing are compiling a booklet collating all of the issues published so far along with new articles. We would like to invite responses and reflections to material we’ve published, as well as articles covering new topics. In particular we are interested in exploring the topics of work and prison, originally planned as two separate issues but which will now be combined into this booklet. We are open to other relevant subjects, and also welcome more general overviews and perspectives on strategies and aspects of political resistance in the UK.
Our own ideas and perspectives are firmly rooted in anarchist and anti-authoritarian traditions, and we are interested in hearing from people who roughly share a common starting point. We would also be particularly interested to hear from people who don’t identify primarily as male. The only editorial guidelines are that articles are not too long and include the personal reflections and perspectives of the author. We would also be happy to receive images and artwork.
The deadline for submissions is 1 January 2013.
All of our previous issues can be found at blackirispress.wordpress.com
If you would like to contribute to the booklet, or have any further questions, please email blackirispress[at]riseup.net
“The only sure tactic when prisoners resist and fight back is solidarity.” John Bowden in ‘Tear Down The Walls’
John Bowden has been in prison more than thirty years for the drunken killing of someone who pulled a knife on him at a party. While John’s two co-defendants were released more than twenty years ago, John remains in a high security prison despite the Parole Board’s recommendations that he be prepared for release. John has been at the forefront of the prison struggle throughout most of his time inside, he quickly developed a political consciousness and a deep understanding of the role of prison in society, as well as a tactical understanding of the power relations between the captured and their captors. We’re glad to announce that after 620 days in prison Pavel Syramolatau was released from prison by president pardon on September 27th.
Pavel was arrested on January 17th 2011 due to attack on KGB building in Bobruisk, which was announced as solidarity action with anarchists arrested in Minsk in September 2010. In may 2011 after more than six months of investigation he was sentenced to 7 years in prison. Their action were classified by court as destruction of private property.
Under pressure of colony administration he signed petition for pardon this June.
Currently five more people supported by Anarchist Black Cross are in prison: Artsiom Prakapenka, Jauhen Vas’kovich, Ihar Alinievich, Aliaksandar Frantskievich and Mikalai Dziadok. All of them are strongly against petitions for pardon and ready to spend all of the sentence in the prison, rather than asking president for release.

18 pheasants liberated in Chelyabinsk, cell tower torched in Kolomna, trees planted elsewhere. Acts of solidarity from Russia.
Hunting season in Russia kicked off simultaneously with autumn rains. Nowadays this is called ‘We provide for the best spending of your leisure time’. Murder of wildlife has become a banal hobby, an entertainment, a way to relax from working routine in noisy megapolis.
On 21.09 we moved out to attack a farm where wild birds were bred in captivity. We failed to find bird cages on site, so a decision was made to torch a meat restaurant (a facility where most birds end up as meat dishes). But our scouts reported that this building doubled as a place for animal confinement during autumn and winter time. So an action was called off for fear of killing animals. We do not disclose the exact location of the facility because we are not done with the fuckers yet.
On 23.09 we continued with another attack, breaking onto the territory of another hunting site (Chelyabinsk region). We liberated 18 pheasants from their cages. It was a first action of this kind for our collective, so numerous doubts had been voiced. Birds could raise ruckus and thus alert guards to our presence. But the reality was different: captives cooperated with us and behaved as silently as possible.
It is above and beyond our capabilities to win freedom for human captives taken hostages by the system, but we do what we can in fighting for unconditional freedom for all living beings. So far we are content to have set 18 birds free.
In the same period we planted about 2 scores of seed bombs (apple-trees and maples) on territories where it had been possible to stop clearcuts. We include this fact in our report with explicit aim of demonstrating that it is possible to add new dimension to eco-anarchist and insurrectionary projects, the dimension not of destruction, but creation. Not only do we take pains to destroy the status-quo, we are also actively involved into the creation of another world we know is possible.
On 24.09 we torched a cell phone tower that had doubled as satellite relay. It was situated in Kolomna district (near Moscow), just several dozen yards from human habitats. The flame eventually consumed whole length of the tower and we had been enjoying flashes from exploding equipment for quite some time.
All of the aforementioned acts were carried out in the spirit of solidarity and support of eco-anarchist and insurrectionary anarchist prisoners, suspects and refugees throughout the world within the new wave of decentralized attacks.
Greetings to Friends of Freedom, Russian cell of CCF, BlackBlocg collective and various anonymous groups of anarchist urban guerrilla active in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
Total support to ITS and CI-MSA in Mexico.
A warm embrace to all insurrectionary groups around the world.
On Sunday the 31st of September under the cover of darkness we set off with hatred in our hearts & cans of spray-paint in our back-packs.
Once again we found ourselves in the outer northern suburbs of Melbourne – in particular the predominantly low-income neighborhood of Glenroy.
And once more we decided to direct our anger at the church; there always seem to be plenty of churches in the poorer suburbs & Glenroy is no exception.
Our first stop was the Corpus Christi Catholic Church where we sprayed ‘FUCK RELIGION’ and an anarchy symbol on a side of the church facing a main road, we then made our way to the front door of the church and sprayed ‘JESUS RAPES’ and another anarchy symbol.
We then walked across the road to St Matthews Anglican Church where we sprayed several anarchy symbols and the words ‘RELIGION BREEDS ENSLAVEMENT’. In the car park we were lucky enough to find two church vehicles. Unfortunately we were not in the position to be able to torch the vehicles so we did the next best thing – redecorated them with some anarchy symbols and some random scribble which will no doubt be very costly for them to remove.
We continued onwards into the night, stopping several times to paint slogans on some very public walls. The slogans were : ‘FUCK AUTHORITY!’, ‘FUCK THE POLICE!’, ‘COPS MURDER’, ‘SOCIAL WAR’. ‘CLASS WAR’ and of course plenty of circle a’s to compliment them.
We then made our way to the Glenroy Uniting Church and sprayed the slogans ‘PEDO CHRIST’ & ‘GOD IS DEAD’ on the front of the church, and of course we sprayed some anarchy symbols as well just in case they were wondering just who these angry vandals were.
Running low on paint & high on adrenalin we decided to call it a night, happy that we had ventured much further than last time & already thinking of future actions!
Next time we will definitely have to bring some fire making utensils as it is high time that the night time landscape of Melbourne’s outer suburban wastelands were lit up with the flames of nihilistic social warfare!
We would like to dedicate this night’s actions to our chaotic church hating comrades in Bristol UK, the Free Thought Association / Fraction of Gender Renegades. We also send greetings to all FAI insurgents currently active on planet Earth, to all the comrades in cyberspace still operating under the AntiSec banner & of course to all the imprisoned anarchist fighters struggling for dignity in the prisons around the world!

As of this past Wednesday September 27th, there are now two grand jury resistors imprisoned. Both are being held in SeaTac Federal Prison in Seattle for what is known as “contempt of court” or in other words: refusing to talk or cooperate with the grand jury. It is confirmed that one comrade, Matt Duran, is being held in solitary confinement, it is unknown whether the other comrade, Kteeo, is in general or solitary as of now. Read the rest of this entry »
A Prisoner Art Exhibition, collected and co-ordinated by Anarchist Black Cross (ABC) groups and allies, has now arrived at Colorama #2 (or C2), South London, as it begins a year-long tour visiting over a dozen venues across England, Wales and Ireland.
Opposite the old Colorama Cinema, C2 is fast becoming a hub of activity as residents transform the office block and ground level warehouse into an anarchist social centre, while hosting the start of the ABC art tour for approximately 10 days. It will then move onto Britain’s largest anarchist bookshop Freedom Press, in Whitechapel, before being displayed at the London Anarchist Bookfair in the University of London on October 27th.
New social space Colorama #2 hosts start of the prisoner art tour, Lancaster Street, Southwark
Featuring 32 pieces from seven current and past prisoners, including well-known artist Lucy Edkins and Phil Africa from the MOVE family, the exhibition shows the artistic talent of those behind bars, as well as highlighting the political cases of the prisoners themselves. 325receives and transmits this information with respect and solidarity to the family and friends of Anthony Grainger:
Father of two, friend to many: Shot and killed by Greater Manchester Police
“This has left us devastated as a family, our lives will never be the same. I cry every single night knowing what they did to my son… We won’t rest until we get justice.”Marina, Anthony’s mother
On 3 March 2012 Anthony Grainger was shot and killed by a police officer from Greater Manchester Police. Anthony was sat behind the wheel of a parked car in Culcheth, Warrington when a squad of armed men surrounded the car, and marksmen shot Anthony in cold blood through the windscreen, killing him immediately.
Anthony and the two men he was with were unarmed. Anthony has no record of being involved with guns and the police had apparently had the men under surveillance in the period leading up to the killing – we believe they knew he was unarmed.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is now investigating Anthony’s death and will soon present its evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). It is then up to the CPS to decide whether to charge any police officer. In the past the IPCC has consistently failed to carry out proper investigations into crimes committed by the police.
Anthony’s death at the hands of the police is not an isolated incident. Since 2000 over 30 people have been shot and killed by the police in Britain and over 400 have died in police custody. Not one serving police officer has served a prison sentence for these deaths.
We will not stop, we will fight. We have joined with many other campaigns who have lost a loved one by the hands of the police who are facing the same INJUSTICE in our system. We fight as ONE – Unity is our strength.

Militant prisoner John Bowden has been locked behind bars for more than three decades, and the prison authorities continue to do everything they can to keep him there. In the past, he was punished with beatings and brutality to try and break his spirit, and to stop him participating in organised resistance to prison repression. In more recent years the State have used prison-hired quacks like Matthew Stillman, and now Marc Kozlowski, and scumbag Probation workers like Brendan Barnett to do their dirty work. Despite the recommendations of the Parole Board more than a year ago that John Bowden be moved to an open nick and be prepared for release, the screws are determined to keep John inside.
Leeds ABC are launching a new campaign to get John out of jail, details of a Day of Action, the first salvo in this renewed campaign in support of John, will be posted shortly. We hope that comrades everywhere will join us in supporting John Bowden and in demanding that he be freed from jail.
Below is a link to the Leeds ABC website containing an update of John’s situation:
We decided to appeal to the call of anarchist groups and individuals that do not limit themselves to words and curses against the social peace and who take the decision to destroy the system of domination into their own hands, making direct solidarity in the practice with our sisters and brothers in prison.
For this, we claim a new attack against the uniformed shit, opening fire against the police patrol 282 of the Municipal police of the Valley of Chalco in Mexico State, killing all of those aboard.
We did not attack a public transport unit, we shot against a police car, meaning, against a well-identified objective for our struggle to the death against the system of domination and its executioners.
If it is true, how the mass media laments, that we only killed one officer and that the rest of those onboard were civil personnel and family members of municipal police, we still do not regret the act. We will attack again without remorse. In the struggle for the destruction of the existent, there are no guilty or innocent. All those who feed this system of death are our enemies.
Also we want to clarify that we don’t know anything about the transit police that they report has disappeared. We do not kidnap or incarcerate.
We don’t believe in prisons or in those who call for “prisons of the people“. We fight for total liberation and not to impose any other equally oppressive system.
We greet all of the informal and anarcho-invidualist groups that took part in this new coordinated action!
Chaos has return for all of those who thought it had died.
Direct solidarity with all of the anarchist prisoners in Mexico, Chile, Greece, Italy, Indonesia, United States, Switzerland and the world!
Against all domination! Fire to power! For the extension of the struggle!
Viva la Anarquia!

Nine of the arrestees in Delta squat’s eviction were set free on bail after the trial, where they made a collective political statement. All defendants were found guilty for diverse misdemeanor charges, received suspended prison sentences (from 3 months to 16 months) and got 3 years probation. The total monetary amount of their bail was 7,950 euros. Till this day, the tenth defendant is still captive, facing the danger of deportation because of police perjury: a cop testified in court that the comrade had a fake passport (which is not true).
One of the ten arrestees wrote and sent us a text on September 22nd, expressing opinions on what happened with the whole farce:
now we are all persona non grata
“I never saw a man who looked
With such a wistful eye
Upon that little tent of blue
Which prisoners call the sky”
– Oscar Wilde, Ballad of Reading Gaol
Comrades, what can I say about the last few days, apart from the theatre of absurdity, need I say anymore? From the first day in a Kafkaesque trial, to the society of the spectacle outside our front door. No one can begin to understand that the junta never disappeared until they have a gun shoved in their face in the early hours of the morning, face banged against the wall, thrown on the floor under a hail of boots stamping, in a pantomime Hollywood event, that brought the facade of Greek democracy falling from the true fascist face. Who did they think they had found, as they entered the building coked-up? Terrorists? No, the real terrorists are those in the parliament who gave the order! Read the rest of this entry »

This Wednesday, three of the four young men known as the “Cleveland 4,” Brandon Baxter, Doug Wright and Connor Stevens, entered into a non-cooperating plea agreement for all counts of the charges brought against them, but not to the government’s terrorism enhancement. The Cleveland 4 Support Committee continues to support Brandon, Doug, Connor and Josh during this time.
The sentencing for these three will not occur until after a hearing scheduled for November 5th and 6th. at which point Brandon, Doug and Connor will still have the opportunity to present evidence in court regarding unlawful entrapment actions by the FBI. Their sentence could range from five years to three lifetimes, with the defense and prosecution differing over the how federal sentencing guidelines would apply. Read the rest of this entry »

International revolutionary solidarity with anarchist companera Sol F. Vergara (Chile)
Our dear companera Sol was pointed out by power and accused of the attack on the miserable Banco Estado security guard Rolando Vargas Fuentes, in which 4 bullets were fired as a gesture of revenge for the murderous shots that another of his colleagues fired at the anarchist companero Sebastian Overluij, which slew him. See also here.
Pola Roupa, Nikos Maziotis, Kostas Gournas are imprisoned anarchist comrades in Greece who have taken responsibility, as well as of slain comrade Lambros Foundas, of membership of the Revolutionary Organisation - Revolutionary Struggle. Their actions and their articulate anarchist analysis of capitalism and their high hopes for social revolution press a question to each reader who is ready to rebel and embrace their freedom. On 24 October 2011 their trial began. You can find updates about the process translated into English here and here. Update: N. Maziotis was captured after an armed clash with police in Athens. P.Roupa and their baby-son, Victor Lambros are still in clandestinity. Find further news here.
"This pamphlet is a meeting point of comrades from all over the world. An imaginary meeting since the walls and bars of the prisons where we are temporarily keep our bodies hostage. But our meanings remain free, escape from the cells of prison and are expressed with words continuing to provoke authority.
Words that still smell of fire and gunpowder, words which carry with them all of our hate for the system, words unrepentant and armed, words which transfer stresses and desires, words which break the isolation of prison, words full of passion for the mutiny we want to continue, words from Chile, Mexico, America, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Bulgaria, Indonesia..."CCF
The so-called "Security Case" concerns our revolutionary comrades Juan Aliste Vega, Marcelo Villarroel Sepulveda, and Freddy Fuentevilla Saa, who are currently held captive in prisons of the Chilean State. Some background info. See also here.
