Prison: abolish or destroy? (Deranged)

May 7th, 2014

To provoke discussion about the issues contained within, and sharpen the attack against the existent, we reproduce the full text of this newly retrieved article from Deranged #0. Deranged #0 was published a few years ago by random anarchists in London. In UK this year there is a ‘Prison Abolition’ campaign and conference[1], with prior workshops happening in Bristol soon[2]. The post-industrial cybernetic society of the present and near-future, has as it’s aim the abolition of prisons in the name of rehabilitation and social reconfiguration. New technologies of social control have made it possible for the incarceration of the entire society through exclusion, remote tracking, private security companies, surveillance, “community punishment” and the securitisation of the social environment. Which is why as anti-civilisation anarchist-insurrectionalists and nihilists, we don’t advocate the “abolition” of prisons, but their destruction, as part of a polymorphous attack against every aspect of the State, Society and Civilisation. We think that there are no real “anarchist” solutions to the “anti-social problem”, other than the constant war against power and continual anarchist revolution. Towards the point of no-return and freedom – Attack the prison-society.

The plan is to empty the prisons of the great majority of prisoners and throw them back into the prison-society using the technology of isolation and control; and for the minority of irreducible rebels, keep them inside for ever. What is being presented as ‘progress’ is nothing other than the advance and spread of repression. This is what the abolitionists are really subscribing to: ‘change everything so that everything remains the same’.

It has been said, not mistakenly, that those who do most harm in this world are those who try to do most good. Still today, with increasing isolation and atomisation of individuals, there are people around who decide to ruin their lives with excessive altruism.

Always with the best of intentions, they set out to try to remedy the ills they see before them. They can even be paid by the State for doing so, and this is one of the great swindles of capital: it imposes conditions of untold suffering, and, through its ally the State, paves the way for it to be prolonged in time, rationalised and reformed. Detainees starting hungerstrikes and protests in 3 Immigration Removal Centres (UK)

May 7th, 2014

On Friday 2 May over 150 detainees in Harmondsworth migration prison occupied the main courtyard in a sit down protest and began a mass hunger strike. On Monday 5 May supporters held solidarity noise demos outside Harmondsworth detention centre and simultaneously at Dungavel detention centre in Scotland. Yesterday evening, Tuesday 6 May, protests started to spread to Colnbrook and Brook House migration prisons.

At lunchtime on Friday 2 May over 150 people detained in Harmondsworth, the UK’s largest migration prison run by corporation GEO group for the Home Office, staged a sit-down occupation of the main courtyard and began hunger strike. They issued a set of demands (see below) protesting against the ‘Fast Track’ system, under which refugees seeking asylum are immediately imprisoned before their claims are even heard, as well as further mistreatment in detention. Stop NATO : Anarchists shut down Barclays Bank in Cardiff (Wales, UK)

May 7th, 2014

As part of our coverage of anti-NATO events this year in UK, we reproduce this report:

The campaigners formed a Radical Bloc on the Trades Council-organised May Day march, breaking from the main route to take action against the bank instead of going to listen to speeches by union officials at the Trades Council’s rally.

A local anarchist and member of the Stop NATO Cymru campaign group said: “We took part in the May Day march to draw attention to the struggles of workers all over the world against exploitation and violent oppression which is exacerbated by arms producers here in the UK. 29/04/2014 – Phocis: Parcel bomb sent to the police precinct of Itea (Greece)

May 3rd, 2014

Inter Arma received and translated:

THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS

i. Journey of Death: Malandrino Prisons – Itea’s Police Precinct

The Conspiracy of Cells of Fire claims responsibility for sending a book trapped with explosives to the police precinct of Itea.

Itea’s police precinct, which we chose to strike, is not just an enemy military base. It’s the place where prisoner Ilia Kareli was beaten and tortured, before he was delivered to his last executioners, at Nigrita prisons.

What happened in the penitentiary of the police precinct of Itea, was intentionally concealed. The prison guards of Nigrita prison insisted that they received the prisoner in very bad shape, before they paint their own hands with blood. But an executioner cannot incriminate another one. For this, irrefutable witness remains always the life itself and its miserable print at the basement of police detention facilities. There, in the concrete tombs, where human shadows are stacked upon one another for days, weeks, months…

People who are forgotten by daylight, as their sun is the yellow bulb on the ceiling, that never goes out. They are only remembered by the cells’ moldy walls, that are buried within the blood, despair and groans from the beatings of the uniformed pigs.

If these walls had a voice, the ugliness would be ashamed of itself. But you don’t narrate ugliness, you strike it. As a slogan in the streets says “Action replaces tears”. For this, we decided once again to act and hit the enemy in his face, in his own base.

ii. …Last stop Nigrita prisons…

In Nigrita prisons, in Serres, the “welcoming committee” of prison guards was waiting for its victim. A herd of hyenas ready to finish off the work of the previous tormentors. Cowardly and sadistic executioners picked their prey chained and for three-four hours taught him the correctional method and legal culture to his death. Of course, after Kareli’s assassination and the arrest of the prison guards, they started to snitch on each other and pretended to having regret.

We know that especially in the provincial closed prisons, several prison guards not only are they not ashamed of their job, but they behave like little tyrants instead, speaking derogatory to the prisoners and humiliating or even beating them. It seems that they act with the assurance of immunity, provided by the fact that they live away from the metropolis so they will probably think of themselves to be untouchable by the armed hand of the urban guerrillas. But this miserable tribe of shepherds and drunkards is quite wrong. The enemy always has a name and address, wherever he is hiding.

iii. International route: Stammheim – Guantanamo – Domokos

After the escape of urban guerilla Christodoulos Ksiros, the former commander – minister of Justice, and now puppet of Dendias, proceeded to announce the operation of a maximum security prison in Domokos.

Shortly after it, the proposal for a new bill regarding special detention conditions of type C was announced to be applied to most of closed prisons.

A guillotine-law for the political prisoners, the accused for the so called “organized crime” – 60% of prisoners is accused for “organized crime/criminal organization”- and the recalcitrant prisoners.

No one, of course, wondered how the whole bill does not even include a paragraph regarding construction-building changes that would confirm the title it’s been given, i.e. a bill for “maximum security prisons”. That occurs because maximum security prisons have been a reality for years in Greece.

All new closed type prisons of the last years are modern cement graves made of concrete and railings, built in the middle of nowhere. Even the sky is hidden by barbed mesh, while cameras watch every move of the prisoners.

The reality therefore belies the rhetoric of the authorities. This is not high-security prisons, but ones of utmost punishment. All the arrangements proposed by the subservient of Dendias have to do with the operation of a new prison inside the existing one, without the right to take a leave, without visiting, without communication with the outside world. This is a total deletion of prisoners meant to be disposed there. This is a deletion of senses and consciousness. This is an old trick of authority. A careful psychiatric/scientific version of retribution/revenge of democracy against those who dare to challenge it. The white cells of Stammheim, where the urban guerillas of RAF were murdered in West Germany, are ancestors of Domokos. Guantanamo is the embodiment of the American model. Loss of senses, communication, consciousness. A death sentence in replay.

Meanwhile, the “construction” of high security prisons prefigures the construction of a paramount prison society. Whatever is being experimentally implemented on prisoners today – the guinea pigs of scientists of law and order- will tomorrow be tested in the social machine. Since most of the economical illusions tend to recede increasingly because of the crisis, what will emerge is the zero tolerance and law and order doctrine. It is the passage from the ruins of the social state to the police one.

This moment, however, inside the Greek galleys of democracy, something seems to be moving…

The prisoners – although we do not like generalizations of collective subjects – have been participating in a large mobilization inside the walls, against the bill regarding the C type prisons: Abstinence of common meal, night mobilization, noun time protests etc. Via their mobilization, the prisoners refuse to accept the special conditions of isolation as a condition of life that the state prepares for them. In this struggle they are not alone…

iv. The call

Unfortunately, luck turned its back to us once again. While the package arrived at the heart of the police department’s snake nest [on April 29, 2014], a cop realized the true intentions of the ‘sender’. As a result, the EOD Section was called, in order to neutralize the bomb-book we sent them. This creates a negative legacy for the methodology and practice of parcel-bombs in Greece, as our aim is to be effective and not spend much time in symbolism. From now on, much will change. Soon we will return.

Tracing the paths of attack, we meet in practice with other fighters from completely different origins, who, with their own means, want to derail the route of maximum security prisons design. So, a salute to the fighters of the organization “Zero Tolerance” and consider our action as a small contribution to their own “revolutionary call” they promoted after the arson of Michelaki’s political office.

Of course, we wholeheartedly dedicate this gesture attack of us – which unfortunately remained incomplete – to our ten imprisoned brothers and sister of the prison cell: Panagiotis, Olga, Giorgos, Damianos, Gerasimos, Theofilos, Mihalis, Haris, Giorgos, Christos. We also dedicate it to the member of FAI A. Tsavdaridis and the anarchist comrade S. Mandilas, prosecuted for the “Phoenix Project”.

At the same time, we send our solidarity with all means to the wanted urban guerrilla Christodoulos Ksiros. Christodoulos practiced the phrase “ONCE A GUERILLA, ALWAYS A GUERILLA”… From clandestinity now an assault call. It does not really matter to us that sometimes the words do not match, and often sound so different. We do not belong to pseudo-ideologues drowning in words, without ever having been tested in practice.

The proposal of Ch. Ksiros reveals a crossroad – for those able to see it. An attack crossroad where people from different paths with separate experiences can meet. But we get to talking … From now on we will continue with expressing ourselves through action for the “call.” We also send our solidarity to the political prisoners who have taken responsibility for their participation in armed groups.

Finally, because our compass always remain ‘stuck’ to the orientation of the international conspiracy of the Informal Anarchist Federation , we could not forget to send our fraternal greetings to the two imprisoned comrades of FAI in Italy, Alfredo Cospito and Nicola Gai, who have taken the responsibility for the shots against senior member of a nuclear company. We also send our insurrectionary solidarity to Gianluca Iacovacci, who has taken responsibility for the FAI actions against targets of power and is held with the anarchist Adriano Antonacci, who is also accused of the same case. The two comrades are imprisoned in different Italian jails and a TV-trial will take place against them without being able to meet. That means that they will be up for through telecommunication while being hundreds of miles away from the court. Their hardest isolation is arranged this way.

At the same time, the official Italian movement is unconcerned with their case and has put them on the sidelines. These are familiar situations, as reformists everywhere, and in Greece, are of the same breed.

Alongside, this – incomplete – action of us is part of our participation in international call for solidarity to the imprisoned Italian comrades, which will take place from 16th to 22nd of May.

We also salute all the imprisoned anarchists of praxis worldwide: Monica Caballero, Francisco Solar, Gabriel Pombo Da Silva and Claudio Lavazza in Spain. Carlos, Amelie and Fallon in Mexico. Tamara Sol, Alfonso Alvial, Hermes Gonzalez and the charged with the «Security Case» [Caso Security] in Chile. Damien Camélio in France, Marco Camenisch in Switzerland and Ilya Romanov in Russia.

Honor to Sebastian Oversluij, who was killed during an armed robbery at a bank in Chile.

EVERYTHING CONTINUES. SOON WE WILL BE BACK….

Berlin: Phoenix Project #11 – Autonomous Cell “Christos Kassimis” takes responsibility for several attacks (Germany)

April 30th, 2014

via contrainfo [see previous acts]:

Phoenix Project: Smoke signals from Berlin

“The fire comes into your cities, into your nights. From our spirit within, we carve its path towards all of you. It will warm our friends with solidarity and will ignite their zest for action. It will turn our enemy into ashes. Imprint us well in your memory. We want your heart. No matter who you are. No matter who I am either. Maybe the Conspiracy will turn both of us into ashes and at the same time fill us with life. What counts is the path we are going, and that we take this path because we have the freedom to choose. This freedom is nothing to be fought for but rather evolves in the mind. What comes afterwards is not freedom but the power over one’s own life. We do not discuss this; this is what we fight for.”(CCF)[1]

Responsibility claim for some arsons of the past weeks in Berlin

On April 8th, 2014 we torched a vehicle of the municipal regulatory authority, and the car of a security company, near the main railway station in Berlin.

Berlin’s municipal regulatory authorities are being tasked by the normal cops to persecute administrative offenses and to keep their eyes and ears open in the everyday life of the metropolis. Small, lousy snoopers equipped with radio transmitter and pepper spray. They work, just like the cops, together with private security companies. At the main railway station, they share a parking lot designated for officials with a security firm right next to a police station.

We also take responsibility for the arson at an embassy vehicle belonging to a Greek female diplomat, on April 24th in Berlin’s district Dahlem, which is filled with villas.

Diplomatic representatives of a State are exactly the right address for fiery mailings; this rubs away their feeling of superiority and invulnerability, same as it happened recently with the German ambassador in Athens, when shots were fired at his house. The State itself is the problem, something which many fighters of sectional struggles do not take into consideration. Nazis are State; armament and nuclear technology are State; climate change and poverty are also State.

With our action we negate the State’s monopoly on violence.

Germany takes a position which promotes repression in regard to the situation of migration policies in Greece. It’s not enough for the German politics that a majority of the refugees who arrive in Greece end up in concentration camps and that they are hunted and killed by Nazis, with or without uniform. The German politicians consider the few ones, who manage to cross the Greek border alive, as a threat to their rich white world. So, for example, the former German Minister of the Interior, Friedrich, demands stronger border controls and tougher action against those who, because of their home’s exploitation by Western societies, are forced to escape war, hunger and repression. The practical support of this mass murder that takes place at European borders is visible to everyone when Germany’s detectives of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) are stationed in Greek airports, in order to pass their knowledge in Racial Profiling on to their Greek colleagues. The German governmental apparatus has supported the murders at European borders not only by sending personnel but also by pressing towards agreements at the European level, such as the Dublin II regulation.

On August 10th, 2013 a riot broke out in Amygdaleza, a concentration camp which is located 25km north of Athens, where migrants are held captive by the Greek State. The prisoners set their mattresses and cells on fire to protest against the conditions in the camp, guards were attacked, and many migrants tried to break out of the prison —about ten prisoners temporarily escaped.

Solidarity to prisoners

We greet the prisoners Andreas-Dimitris Bourzoukos, Dimitris Politis, Yannis Michailidis, Nikos Romanos, who were arrested on February 1st, 2013, accused of double robbery in Velventos, Kozani.

Our solidarity also goes out to Fivos Harisis, Argyris Ntalios, Yannis Naxakis and Grigoris Sarafoudis, who were arrested for the same case[2] in Nea Filadelfeia, Athens.

Force and strength to our brothers and our sister, Damiano Bolano, Haris Hadjimihelakis, Giorgos Polydoros, Panagiotis Argyrou, Theofilos Mavropoulos, Christos Tsakalos, Giorgos Nikolopoulos, Michalis Nikolopoulos and Olga Ekonomidou.[3]

Solidarity to
Tasos Theofilou
Theofilos Mavropoulos
Mónica Caballero and Francisco Solar

Freedom for all prisoners!

In memory of Sebastián Oversluij, who fell in battle against the capitalist system. Freedom for Hermes González and Alfonso Alvial. Freedom for Tamara Sol!

Strength, force and courage to all people who are fighting. For all the migrants that set off to break through Fortress Europe. All those who have fallen. All the unnamed. All those who fight the pigs in the streets of Athens.

Against the construct of borders and nations. Against prisons! For freedom! For anarchy!

Autonomous Cell “Christos Kassimis”

Christos Kassimis [member of the Revolutionary People’s Struggle (ELA)] was killed by cops in Athens, during an attempted attack on the German company AEG on the 20th of October 1977. The action was in response to the murder of prisoners [three members of the RAF] in Stammheim.
_

Translators’ notes: [1] we translated the words from German as best we could, however the exact origin of this quotation is unknown to us; [2] for the case of Velventos, Fivos Harisis and Argyris Ntalios (not all four of them); [3] apparently the name of Gerasimos Tsakalos was inadvertently omitted.

Anarchie: zivil oder subversiv?

April 30th, 2014

Keine sozialen Anarchisten, zivile Anarchisten!

Einleitend eine Begriffserklärung. Unter Citoyennisme/Citoyennismus versteht man die Ideologie der Staatsbürger (Citoyens). Definition: 1.

Night-time stalking of Bristol fascists – EDL Chris Pugh’s car vandalised and fascist hang-out Apple Tree pub smashed (UK)

April 29th, 2014

325 receives and transmits:

Some local fascist haunts have been hunted down in our areas. This is to combat continuing fascist stirrings like racist assaults, intimidation and graffiti here in Bristol* and elsewhere. The far-right will be fought in the daytime like in Brighton last Sunday, or at night when we choose.

EDL Fascist Chris Pugh plays as DJ around Bristol pubs under the name of The Last Resort, and runs a retro shop under the same name on the Wells Road. His street stall in St.Nicholas market ceased trading after being publicly paintbombed on a Saturday by anti-fascists. His shop is a few minutes from his house in Knowle West (47 Salcombe Rd), the stomping ground of his youth. So, on the night of Tuesday 15th April, all four tyres were punctured on his Grey Jaguar car, and body work scratched. It’s the least we can do for him right now.

Two days later, at the Apple Tree pub in Philips street, off Bedminister parade, two downstairs windows and one upstairs were smashed at sunrise. The pub is a consecutive meeting place of EDL organisers, such as Mickey Bayliss, who organised the EDL demo in central Bristol last year as their South-West co-ordinator.

Attack the racists and fascists, history has always proved that they’ll be the allies of the bosses, patriarchs and the state, pretending to speak for the white underdog. It’s a mistake to let them fester.

Lastly, across the channel in Calais fascists have fallen back for the moment after an international call-out to fight their repeated attacks on squats and migrants, though the bigger enemy remains the authorities and the state.

Solidarity to Damien Camelio also in France doing time for burning buildings used by the army, the prison service, National Front, and calling to arms against repression in all forms.

Neither Left nor Right – Anti-State and Anti-Fascist

“Giroshin Sha” – An anarchist-illegalist cell, formed in Japan in the early 20th century

April 29th, 2014

Photo from the trial of

Photo from the trial of “Giroshin Sha” cell

“Giroshin Sha” (Guillotine Society) was an anarchist – illegalist cell, formed in Japan in 1922. This cell expropriated banks, in order to finance its activities.

“Giroshin Sha” attempted to execute the general Masataro Fukuda twice, who was in the group which was responsible for the assassination of the most prominent anarchist writer of his time in Japan, Osugi Sakae.

At the first attempt, one of Osugi’s former comrades, Kyutaro Wada, shot Fukuda but he only managed to injure him and at the second attempt, a bomb was placed at his house by Genjirop Muraki and Futura, but unfortunately he was not there.

In 1924, the member of “Giroshin Sha” Tetsu Nakahama (among others) attacked the chairman of Kanedo Co. company and was arrested.

In 1925, Nakahama, along with his comrade and also member of “Giroshin Sha” Daijiro Futura, were executed for “anti – governmental actions”, including a bank robbery in 1923 and planning the execution of Prince Hirohito. Kyutaro Wada was sentenced to life imprisonment and he committed suicide in his cell.

The article’s research was conducted by the imprisoned members of C.C.F.

In Praise of Chaos – Enzo Martucci

April 29th, 2014

Libertarian communism is also known, particularly in Latin countries, by the name of “anarchist communism.” It is not. On the contrary, the two words are a contradiction in terms.

Communism signifies a social condition in which the means of production and all material goods belong to the mass of the people who identify themselves with the totality or majority of society. Everyone has their goods disposed of according to the way decided by those who govern and whose law all must obey.

Anarchy signifies the absence of government: that is to say, a state of things in which the individual is not held in obedience to anyone, lives as he pleases, and is limited only by the extent of his power. He uses moral and material goods in the particular manner he prefers without having to get the approval of his fellows. Read the rest of this entry »

War preparations between Ukraine and Russia – Show or reality? (Třídní válka)

April 28th, 2014

The historical collapse of a model of management of the capitalist social relation, the one that had developed among others in Eastern Europe during several decades of counterrevolution, led to the dissolution and the disappearance of the USSR as an imperialist bloc. Since then, the proletariat in this region, as everywhere else in the world, had to undergo numerous new attacks against its survival conditions, but at the same time it also burned a certain number of illusions fuelled by the Western propaganda praising to the skies ad nauseam another model of management of capitalism considered to be more “human”, more “free”. This so much vaunted “world of peace and harmony”, this new Eden promised to the “useful idiots” at the time of the fall of the iron curtain that sealed the end of a “bipolarized world”, all these illusions get more and more smashed.

Rumours of war resound noisily in Europe again, cannons are loaded, fighter-bombers are packed with murderous bullets and bombs, missiles point their nuclear warheads at their future objectives: after wars that caused unrest locally and according to circumstances in Yugoslavia, Georgia, Chechnya, Dagestan, Ossetia etc. during this last quarter of century, preconditions for a new war have been intensively maturing in the Ukraine now, a war much more extensive and with unimaginable international effects. May Day 2014 – Call for Anarchist Action and news on Mayday actions in Cardiff and London (UK)

April 28th, 2014

From anarchistaction.net:

On Mayday 2014 Anarchist Action Network is calling for anarchists to unite in One Common Struggle. We are calling on you to join fellow anarchists and remember the victims of the system’s oppression, take action against the symbols of the state and capitalism and hold events highlighting the need to struggle for a better world.

May Day was first celebrated as a day of international workers’ solidarity in 1890. It was called to commemorate the murder of four anarchist workers in Chicago by the US government.

On this May day in 2014 let us unite our struggles in looking back to the Anarchist origins of May Day and take action in memory of all who are dying every day at the hands of the capitalist system. Let us also remember those who have died or been imprisoned fighting it. From the Mayday Anarchists in Chicago to Carlo, the young man executed by police at the 2001 Genoa summit against the G8. Right now in the UK there is an all out assault on activists involved in the animal rights movement, one of whom was sentenced today to a 6 year prison sentence for ‘conspiring to blackmail’ Huntingdon Life Sciences. Dozens more AR activists are facing political trials in the UK as the law continues to be used to protect corporate power against public anger. For more details see here. Mayday is a time to show our solidarity against a system that kills and imprisons in order to keep us in chains. Read the rest of this entry »

‘March for England’ – Anti-fascists beat the Nazis off the streets of Brighton again! (UK)

April 28th, 2014

¡No Pasarán!

From inthebellyofthebeast:

The annual March for England portrayed as a patriotic protest on St Georges day is an excuse for the fascist scum of the EDL (English Defence League) to plague the streets of Brighton. This year they got was coming to them when they were out numbered by 2,000 anti-fascists coming from all across the country.

The march this year was shortened due to the collapse of the road at the sea front. (even nature did not want the fascists to march) As usual the march was confronted on its route but restricted by a massive police presence with forces even being shipped in from as far as Cornwall. Also included on the day was the much loved TSG (Tactical Support Group, extremely violent militant police unit) and extensive fencing that included mobile barricades that closed off all streets reaching the beach front where the march was proceeding.

Anti-fascists on the day had no illusions that march at the sea would be impregnable and chose to roam the city centre of Brighton in affinity groups seeking the fascists who would be walking down from the railway station, with some drinking in pubs away from the march looking for a fight with those they are against such as anyone who is not white or skin headed, such as the racist attacks that happened last year after the march. Rome: Presentation of a new Anarchist Black Cross newsletter at the Bencivenga squat (Italy)

April 27th, 2014

Introductory note by RadioAzione, via Actforfree:

I receive and transmit the editorial of the Anarchist Black Cross newsletter, which will be presented on 25th April at the Bencivenga Squat in Rome. Besides spreading letters from prisoners and claims of attacks, counter-information should propose analysis, be it from the internet or on paper. I’m sorry I don’t agree with some passages of this editorial, when the comrades probably talk without having a direct experience of counter-information via web. Most importantly, there exist no virtual worlds but comrades who meet in person and organize initiatives all over the world. But I’m happy about this new Anarchist Black Cross bulletin, especially as there’s always the need of analysis on paper:

Fires of revolt continue to brighten the darkness of a world otherwise destined to annihilate the individual and lead him/her to homogenized slavery: these pages aim at stoking the fire and lighting more of them.

One of the few advantages offered by the obsessive search for global information is the revelation that even on the other side of the world there are hearts beating at the same rhythm as ours, hearts which arm skilled hands skilled in doing much more than typing a keyboard. The race to the abyss carried out by technological society is getting increasingly frantic, but fighters all over the world are keeping the pace; and even if they risk of being crashed by such a gigantic monster, they are struggling against it so as to make it fall down. Now is the time to roll up our sleeves and do more. Read the rest of this entry »

Athens: R.O. – Revolutionary Struggle claims responsibility for a major car bomb attack (Greece)

April 26th, 2014

Via Contra-Info:

In the early morning hours of Thursday, April 10th, 2014 —after two warning phone calls to the media— a car bomb with 75kg of explosives was detonated outside one of Bank of Greece’s offices, located at Amerikis Street in Athens, causing extensive material damages in the surrounding area (but no injuries).

Fifteen days later, the urban guerrilla group Revolutionary Struggle (Epanastatikos Agonas) claimed responsibility for the bombing. Below are just a few excerpts from their lengthy articulate communiqué (a complete translation is always welcome!).

As many of you may recall, three anarchists revealed their membership in the group four years ago, in April 2010: Nikos Maziotis and Pola Roupa, who have gone underground since the summer of 2012 (recently, the government placed a huge bounty on their heads), and Kostas Gournas, who is currently held captive in Koridallos prison.

Responsibility claim by the organization Revolutionary Struggle [25.4.2014]

On the 10th of April 2014, Revolutionary Struggle carried out a bombing attack against the Supervision Directorate of the Bank of Greece at Amerikis Street [Athens], a building which also houses the IMF’s resident representative in Greece, Wes McGrew. Although the blow targeted the Bank of Greece, the head office of Piraeus Bank which is located exactly on the opposite side of the street also suffered damage, what makes the hit even more successful, because the Piraeus Bank has evolved in one of the larger systemic Greek banking institutions after the acquisition of ATEbank, it has benefited from the predatory memorandum-policy applied against the Greek people in recent years, and is one of the financial factors that are jointly responsible for people’s woes.

The attack was carried out with a car bomb containing 75kg of ANFO explosive. Exactly four years after the crackdown against the organization, and while the State alongside many enemies of armed struggle were cheering for the “success of dismantling” the Revolutionary Struggle, this action came to prove them wrong. The bombing against the Bank of Greece is dedicated to anarchist comrade Lambros Foundas, a member of the Revolutionary Struggle who was killed in an armed clash with police officers in Dafni on March 10th, 2010, during a preparatory action of the organization. The comrade lost his life during an attempt to expropriate a car which would be used in an action of the Revolutionary Struggle, in the context of the organization’s strategy of that period —a period which marked the beginning of the economic crisis. This strategy was intended to strike and sabotage structures, institutions and persons that hold a central role in the largest, historically, antipopular assault that was to take place with the signing of the first memorandum in May 2010. Lambros Foundas fought and gave his life so that the contemporary junta of economic and political elites would not pass —the junta of the IMF/ECB/EU troika. He fought and gave his life so that the contemporary junta of the Capital and the State would not pass. So that the new totalitarianism imposed all over the planet, on the pretext of the global financial crisis, would not pass. Lambros Foundas gave his life fighting to turn the crisis into an opportunity for social Revolution. The Bank of Greece bombing is to some extent a continuation of that strategy which included the attacks against Citibank, Eurobank and the Athens stock exchange.

Thus, in honor of our comrade, the action against the Bank of Greece bears the signature Commando Lambros Foundas. Besides, the best homage to a comrade who gave his life in struggle is to continue the struggle itself, for which he fell in combat. And this struggle has never had, or will ever have, any other direction but the overthrow of capitalism and the State —social Revolution.

A blow in response to Greece’s return to the markets

As everyone figured out —from the government, the parties, to the Greek and international media— we chose the 10th of April for our attack because this date marks the exit of the Greek State to international financial markets in search of the first long-term loan after four years; the next day, April 11th, the leader of the most powerful European State, protagonist in the enforcement of extreme neoliberal policies and austerity across Europe, and one of the most ideal exponents of the interests of European economic elites, the superterrorist German chancellor, Angela Merkel, was scheduled to arrive in Greece for the political and economic capitalization of this “Greek success”. (…)

The “salvation of the country” concerns the big capital, the transnational ruling class and the powerful lenders of the country. It concerns the structures and institutions of globalized capitalism. It is linked to the States, the political staff in Greece and Europe; to all sorts of political lackeys of the establishment, who support this regime at any price. It concerns a disgraceful minority of the Greek society.

Those whom this “salvation” does not concern —and instead they have paid and still pay with their own blood to save the system from the crisis— are the vast majority of people. The 5 million people who are living in conditions of poverty. The 2.5 million people who are living in absolute destitution. The 700,000 poor children who do not even have the basics, who are undernourished, who feel cold, suffer from fainting spells, and end up in institutions for a plate of food. Those who get sick, those who go mad. The ones who lose their home over debts to the banks and the State, those who live without electricity, those who lack the basic survival necessities. The 4,000 people who committed suicide because they were financially ruined. The thousands of homeless people, the ones who are depended on soup kitchens, who are digging through garbage to feed themselves, those who are slowly dying on the sidelines. All of these wretched that went financially and socially bankrupt, and pay the “salvation of the country” with their lives and the lives of their children. All these people have come to understand what it means to see your life go bankrupt, what it means to see your life not worth anything anymore. They have come to understand that the “avoidance of Greece’s bankruptcy” means war against society, social euthanasia. (…)

Social revolution cannot be postponed to an indefinite future, nor be limited to an indistinct projectuality. It requires constant revolutionary action in the present time, and involves the organization and formation of a ground-breaking revolutionary movement that will elaborate and define its strategic steps, and clash with the establishment’s centralized policies. It involves the political process and willingness to put specific revolutionary proposals into practice.

In the present circumstances, a revolutionary platform could be summarized as follows:

-Unilateral termination of payment of the Greek debt.

-Exit from the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and the European Union (EU).

-Expropriation of assets of the Capital, large companies, multinational corporations, of all movable and immovable property of the capitalists.

-Abolition of the banking system, erasure of all debts to banks,
handover of small possessions that were seized by banks, and
socialization of bank assets.

-Expropriation of state property and utilities companies; expropriation of church property.

-Socialization of the means of production, industry, ports, means of transfer and communication, transportation, utilities, hospitals and educational institutions; the workers will engage in their managing.

-Abolition of the State and the bourgeois parliament of professional politicians, to be replaced by a confederal system of popular assemblies and workers’ councils, whose coordination, communication and decision-implementation will be achieved through delegates elected and immediately recallable. At national level, in place of the old representative bourgeois parliament there will be a supreme Confederal People’s Assembly, whose members will be authorized members-delegates elected and immediately recallable by the local popular assemblies and workers’ councils.

-Abolition of the police and the army, to be replaced by an armed popular militia, not a mercenary one.

A discussion and agreement upon a revolutionary platform is a prerequisite for the creation of a revolutionary anticapitalist movement, and as Revolutionary Struggle we wish to see a well-intentioned dialogue opening on this issue. It is necessary that a Revolution overcomes national borders. It is unrealistic to believe that a Revolution will be viable if confined within the national borders of a small country like Greece. However let us make a beginning here, in Greece, for the demolition of the Eurozone and the European Union, for the abolition of capitalism and the State. Let us put the armed proletarian counterattack into practice. Let us make a beginning here, in Greece, for an international social Revolution.
