Collective hungerstrike of prisoners in struggle begins (Worldwide)

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

From the 20th December 2009 to the 1 January 2010, Gabriel Pombo da Silva, anarchist imprisoned in Aachen, Germany, has declared a hungerstrike which prisoners from at least three jails in Chile including Axel Osorio have stated they will join. Marco Camenisch (in Switzerland), Jonatan (Sweden), Juan Carlos, Francisco, Honorio and Alberto (Spain), Diego (Argentina), Sergio, Mike, Evelin, Luca and Pasquale (Italy) have also said they will participate. Many other prisoners are expected to join, in solidarity with the struggle of Gabriel and in a common collective refusal of authority and the prison system. Gabriel hoped it might make the Christmas celebrations seem even more ridiculous than usual. (more…)

Lucasville: What led to the uprising (USA)

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

by Edward Julious on behalf of Cleveland Anarchist Black Cross

On Easter Sunday, April 11, 1993, a riot broke out at the infamous Southern Ohio Correctional Facility at Lucasville. Lucasville had a reputation as one of the most violent and predatory prisons in the country. The prison and the atmosphere at the prison had become extraordinarily tense since the arrival of Warden Arthur Tate Jr. in 1990. (more…)

How To Radicalise Muslim Prisoners

I want to highlight an incident that has seriously affected my situation in prison. Firstly, allow me to put what happened into context. I am serving a ten year sentence. Since my conviction I have been exemplary in my behaviour and incurred no disciplinary reports or adverse intelligence reports prior to the incident I am about to describe. I am of Pakistan origin, although until relatively recently had not experienced any discriminatory treatment in prison or ill-treatment at the hands of other prisoners. (more…)

In Sofia in late December 2007 he intervened when he saw a gang of 15+ Bulgarian football hooligans, with undoubted neo-nazi tendencies, attack 2 Roma (gypsy) people. (more…)

On the upcoming trial in Lisbon concerning events in 2007 (Portugal)

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

On the 25th of April 2007 happened in Lisbon an anti-authoritarian demo against fascism and capitalism. Close to 500 people took part on a march through one of the city’s richest areas, where paint was thrown at shops, banks and a riot cop van and slogans were spray painted on walls. To this shamelessness the guards of democratic order replied with a police charge and beatings against the demonstrators and everyone who were passing-by. (more…)

Letter by the imprisoned comrade P. Masouras (Greece)

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Panayiotis Masouras is accused of being a member of the ‘Conspiracy of Cells of Fire’.

On Wednesday September 23 and at 8.15 as I was leaving my house in Galatsi on my way to the gym, I was arrested by 25 persons of the anti-terrorist squad.

In a matter of seconds I found myself on the sidewalk, hands cuffed behind my back, while at the same time they were informing their senior officers that “everything went well” and that they “have me”. I was taken to the 12th floor of Police Headquarters (note: anti-terrorist division). The next day I am informed that at the same time with me another two friends of mine have also been arrested.

In the meantime the show has already started. Without any sleep for 48 hours and physically exhausted, with my face to the wall and then a long questionnaire following, while at the same time some police officer goes from office to office announcing in a delirium of pleasure that what is happening is called war. Elijah Smith : 10 Months without trial (UK)

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Elijah Smith

10 months ago, on 18 January 2009, Elijah Smith, a former British Soldier was arrested in Brighton. He had spent the previous night decommissioning the EDO/MBM/ITT factory in Brighton, in an attempt to stop it providing parts for weapons being used by the Israeli army to bomb civilians in Gaza. Nobody was injured or harassed during their action, which was one of property damage. He and his co-defendants did not resist arrest.

Exactly 10 months on and Elijah Smith is still on remand. Yes that’s right – 10 months in prison without trial. And it looks as if he is likely to remain in prison until the trial actually starts, probably on 17 May 2010, by which time he’ll have spent 16 months on remand.

Elijah is currently at Bristol prison, please write to him in solidarity:

Elijah Smith VP7551,
HMP Bristol,
19 Cambridge Rd,
Horfield, Bristol,
BS7 8PS
UK

He will be there until late November. On 30 November/1 December he and the other Decommissioners will be at Brighton courts for a ‘case management’ session relating to their trial next May. At the same time, Elijah and another decommissioner, also known as the Raytheon 2 (previously the Raytheon 3, but 3rd defendant’s charges dropped), will have that case discussed at the same court – the prosecution are trying to have the Raytheon and EDO cases linked, and a decision is due on that then. Elijah faces a third court case, currently set for 2 August 2010, which relates to alleged threatening comments he made to the EDO/MBM CEO during a previous court hearing.

In Memory : Ronnie Easterbrook (UK)

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Ronnie Easterbrook died on hunger strike 10th May 2009.

Ronnie Easterbrook was convicted in 1988 for the attempted murder of a policeman during an armed robbery that was set up by the police and a police informant. The only person who died was his fellow would-be robber who was shot dead by the police. Police had lain in wait, with a TV camera crew in-tow and ambushed the gang. The man shot dead by the Police, Tony Ash, was unarmed and already surrendering to them. (more…)
