Over recent years there have been many attempts to stop UK activists protesting against Europe’s largest animal testing laboratory; Huntingdon Life Sciences. Activists have been arrested, raided, imprisoned and banned from taking part in the campaign.
Despite these attempts, SHAC (Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty) has been a groundbreaking campaign which has succeeded in almost bankrupting the multi-national corporation. Hundreds of companies have refused to deal with HLS after learning about the horrors happening to animals inside the torture lab – including some of the world’s largest business and financial institutions.
There is an ongoing battle taking place in the UK, with SHAC trying to shut down HLS and vested business and state interests trying to shut down SHAC. The desperation on the part of the state has lead to the introduction of new laws criminalising legitimate protest and the harassment and targeting of peaceful and lawful campaigners. (more…)

From Corporate Watch:
Today Debbie Vincent, an animal rights activist from the Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC) campaign was sentenced to six years in prison for conspiracy to blackmail after a five week long trial at Winchester Crown Court. She was also given an Anti Social Behaviour Order which means she can be arrested if she protests against or contacts Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) or its business partners for a further five years after her release from prison.
The sentence should serve as a wake up call to anti-capitalists of the need to offer solidarity to those who have been singled out for repression because of their involvement in effective resistance to corporate power.
A press release from the Blackmail 3 support campaign quotes Debbie: “I have been made an example of because I put myself up as a public face of Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty and for believing that such places as Huntingdon Life Sciences should be resigned to the history books.”
“In some ways I’m really not surprised I was found guilty, as I don’t believe anyone can get justice when faced with a political conspiracy charge and the huge resources of the state and multinationals against me. I will always have hope and will always continue to try my best to make the inhabitants of this planet more compassionate to all and try to make the world a better place for all.” (more…)

Today, Monday the seventh of April, our comrades in Skövde, Sweden, were sentenced. The comrade who’s still kept in captivity was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison. One of the comrades who were released last week was sentenced to 1 year in prison. The other, with the more talkative approach in court, who also was released last week was sentenced to a probationary sentence. Yet two comrades, also they being on the outside, were sentenced to suspended sentences.
Even though the prosecutor creep did’nt get its will done, we see no reason to celebrate. Our comrades have still spent half a year – more and less – in the disgusting pre-trial isolation cells and they have still their sentences to either serve or evade.
Prison is and will, as long as this society continues to exist, be one of the worst weapons in the State arsenal. A weapon they are using every day in the social war against us and anybody who doesn’t fit in to their disgusting frames of Normality. Prison is however not an end station but a continuation of our struggle against this reality. To maintain a struggle without including the prison and justice system as targets, is to shoot oneself in the foot.
Fire to the prisons! Strength to our comrades!

Late 14th and early 15th of October 2013, five comrades were arrested and imprisoned in Skövde, Sweden, suspected for over twenty different attacks on furfarmers and the fur industry as well as liberations of minks. Three of the comrades were later considered to be main suspects and the two others were released, however still being suspects. Close upon the trial startup end of January, yet another person was detained for involvement in some of the suspected attacks but this person was also released, still being a suspect.
During their interrogations the three main suspects kept their mouths shut, besides one comrade who took the responsibility for a suspected arson against a garage belonging to a fur farmer.
Seeing the media potential, the disgusting ex-minister of justice Thomas Bodström, nowadays a populistic lawyer, took it on himself to represent all the fur farmers in the court process. (more…)

Here’s a brief update on the court case for one of the ‘Blackmail3’ defendants potentially due to come to a conclusion on Monday. More info and background at www.blackmail3.org [also see previous article].
Court updates about Debbie’s trial at Winchester Crown Court over the past five weeks (so far).
Wednesday, 12th February 2014: Debbie’s trial begins at Winchester Crown Court and is expected to last about 4 weeks. Due to prosecution’s failure to disclose information and late service of evidence, the trial was adjourned until Monday 17th February.
Monday, 17th February 2014: Debbie’s trial reconvened at Winchester Crown Court. In an interesting development, the defence revealed that the ‘Novartis executive’ who campaigners previously dealt with, was in fact an undercover policeman, working under the alias ‘James Adams’. The prosecution were pushing for another adjournment, but the defence put forward their argument for the trial to continue as planned even though there was a chance of an unfair trial. The judge heard from both sides and called for time to deliberate, with court adjourned until 10.30am tomorrow.

From Bristol ABC:
A local comrade is facing conspiracy to blackmail charges relating to the animal testing laboratories, Huntingdon Life Sciences. Her trial is set to begin February 12th, while the two others charged in the case are awaiting extradition to the UK from Holland. As you are all probably aware, the state has come down very hard on the animal rights campaign and your solidarity is needed.
Statements of solidarity are really appreciated and can be emailed to: email@example.com
More info about the case: http://blackmail3.org/index.html
Below is a bit more information about their case:
People believed to be campaigning to close down the world’s third largest animal testing facility; Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS), have repeatedly been subjected to arrest and harassment.
On the morning of 6th July 2012, several teams of police raided the homes and business premises of three people arresting them on suspicion of “conspiracy to blackmail”, in relation to animal testing laboratory, Huntingdon Life Sciences. The person in the UK is accused of committing this between 2001-2011 and the 2 people in Holland between November 2008-December 2010. In recent years this charge has been deliberately used against campaigners due to its good conviction rate and because it carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison. This is the third UK conspiracy to blackmail trial involving people accused of campaigning against HLS. (more…)

Note: This contribution was written by Elisa while she was still locked up in the Rebibbia prison following so-called Operation Ardire. She was released on September 7 and she is now being subjected to restrictive measures.
To be honest (excuse me for the unpleasant word) I’ve never participated in any of the previous meetings for animal liberation. This is the first time I’m expressing my opinion on an occasion of this kind, although I’m locked up in jail.
What I’m about to write is not necessarily linked to a precise and univocal topic related to an agenda, but it is meant as a series of considerations and questions, which share a holistic perspective and an antiauthoritarian way to perceive the existent.
It may seem an inconclusive series of thoughts… do what you want with it, but I want to let you know that the main goal of my short contribution is to demolish some stereotypes and demystify some ‘absolute truths’. And now I’m going freewheel… (more…)

From behind fences and razor wire, from behind concrete walls and steel bars, from deep within the United States Penitentiary of Marion, from the CMU unit, from this counter-terrorism prison unit for political prisoners, I send revolutionary greetings to all Straight Edge, Vegan and Anarchist Comrades where ever you may be. From the confines of this dungeon of gray concrete I send a message of solidarity and hope to all the sisters and brothers worldwide, in hopes that all our causes for liberation will one day coalesce into the realization of Total Liberation. Just as the rivers all lead to the ocean, so too will the movements for Human, Earth and Animal Liberation pool into a far larger initiative. (more…)

Absolution for the May 29 defendants! No highway through TIPNIS! Freedom for all prisoners!
On May 29, 2012, 13 people were arrested by police in La Paz, Bolivia.
All of them were connected to anarchist participation in the defense of TIPNIS, an indigenous territory and national park. The 13 were accused of a series of arsons, bombings, and sabotage claimed by the Informal Anarchist Federation-International Revolutionary Front (FAI-FRI). The actions, occurring from September 2011 to May 2012, targeted government buildings, banks, car companies, fast food restaurants, supermarkets, and animal industries. Some of the attacks were claimed in solidarity with the struggle to defend TIPNIS, others in solidarity with comrades facing repression in Chile, others in support of animal liberation. (more…)

From an anonymous report:
“Russia, Krasnodar – Horse Set Free in the Wild
During our scouting journey across the country we happened upon a lonely stallion chained to a tree. We knew that it belonged to a horse-breeding farm that sells horseback riding tours to willing tourists. Since we had our tools of trade (never leave home without bolt-cutters!) with us, we quickly cut the chains and set the animal free.
Let the steppes of southern Russia be teeming with wild horses again!”

Total Liberation: An interview with Walter Bond on Anarchy, Abortion rights, Anti-Colonialism & Animal Liberation
Sunday, February 17th, 2013
Punk bands tour the world singing anthems that promote militant direct action & activism, putting out albums with flaming Molotovs emblazoned across their covers, with militant messages; but few of us ever truly put those words into action. Walter Bond on the other hand has spent decades working tirelessly, whether leafleting at shows and in the streets, tabling at Pride events, protesting, or volunteering at animal sanctuaries before finally turning to the more militant tactics of the Animal Liberation Front. Walter is a proud anarchist, Vegan, of Latino heritage, who identifies as bisexual. He also is currently a prisoner in one of the most controversial and restrictive prisons in the USA today.
I have been writing to Walter in prison since he was first arrested 2 years ago, after his brother snitched him out. At the time of his arrest, Walter was living on the streets while attacking businesses that profit from animal exploitation.
PE: – You identified as an anarchist for most of your life. Can you tell us what being an anarchist means to you, and how it connects with Animal Liberation, and Total Liberation?
WALTER: When I was in 7th grade in 1989 I used to make all kinds of clip art fliers with my friends under the name ‘Anti-Statist Counter Culture’. We would distribute them mostly to local corporate businesses and churches in the area, mostly to agitate. By the end of 8th grade I had completely dropped out of school and was living this nihilist lifestyle and was just very reactionary and angry at the whole world, parents, school, everything! Back then I was dealing with a world of shit that was to much for me to handle. I turned to drug abuse and vandalism as an outlet. Anarchism back then was a personal vendetta I had about how my life and the world around me was and how I felt it should be. (more…)

Walter Bond, the animal liberation fighter who embraced Islam, has dropped the name ‘Abdul Haqq’, and he has written in one of his new letters: “Religion, all religion is a waste of my time! I’m through with it, I don’t believe it and the whole business of it makes me want to fucking puke!”. In this prison letter, and also this one, he publicly talks about rumours, misconceptions and changes of his opinions, and below you can find his reasons why he decided to drop the name ‘Adul Haqq’.
What’s In A Name?
I have decided to drop the name ‘Abdul Haqq’ for the following reasons:
First, religion is not the defining aspect of my struggle, Animal Liberation is. While my spirituality is an Important aspect of my personal life it has nothing to do with the fight for the total freedom of the oppressed. Religion has a terrible track record of persecution of just about every social group one could possibly imagine and I am not here to play apologist to tyranny, in the name of God, or politricks, or consumerism, or any of the other stupid ass reasons people find to justify their bloodlust! Furthermore, the more my own spirituality in mysticism has progressed the more I realize that the institution of religion is poison to my spiritual path. Sufis of the past often had to speak and write their esoteric wisdom in parables and riddles to avoid being murdered by the orthodox regimes of their times, I don’t. And I find the whole business of labeling, and packaging my beliefs and faith under the auspices of this or that religion to be narrowing in and of itself. (more…)

18 pheasants liberated in Chelyabinsk, cell tower torched in Kolomna, trees planted elsewhere. Acts of solidarity from Russia.
Hunting season in Russia kicked off simultaneously with autumn rains. Nowadays this is called ‘We provide for the best spending of your leisure time’. Murder of wildlife has become a banal hobby, an entertainment, a way to relax from working routine in noisy megapolis.
On 21.09 we moved out to attack a farm where wild birds were bred in captivity. We failed to find bird cages on site, so a decision was made to torch a meat restaurant (a facility where most birds end up as meat dishes). But our scouts reported that this building doubled as a place for animal confinement during autumn and winter time. So an action was called off for fear of killing animals. We do not disclose the exact location of the facility because we are not done with the fuckers yet.
On 23.09 we continued with another attack, breaking onto the territory of another hunting site (Chelyabinsk region). We liberated 18 pheasants from their cages. It was a first action of this kind for our collective, so numerous doubts had been voiced. Birds could raise ruckus and thus alert guards to our presence. But the reality was different: captives cooperated with us and behaved as silently as possible.
It is above and beyond our capabilities to win freedom for human captives taken hostages by the system, but we do what we can in fighting for unconditional freedom for all living beings. So far we are content to have set 18 birds free.
In the same period we planted about 2 scores of seed bombs (apple-trees and maples) on territories where it had been possible to stop clearcuts. We include this fact in our report with explicit aim of demonstrating that it is possible to add new dimension to eco-anarchist and insurrectionary projects, the dimension not of destruction, but creation. Not only do we take pains to destroy the status-quo, we are also actively involved into the creation of another world we know is possible.
On 24.09 we torched a cell phone tower that had doubled as satellite relay. It was situated in Kolomna district (near Moscow), just several dozen yards from human habitats. The flame eventually consumed whole length of the tower and we had been enjoying flashes from exploding equipment for quite some time.
All of the aforementioned acts were carried out in the spirit of solidarity and support of eco-anarchist and insurrectionary anarchist prisoners, suspects and refugees throughout the world within the new wave of decentralized attacks.
Greetings to Friends of Freedom, Russian cell of CCF, BlackBlocg collective and various anonymous groups of anarchist urban guerrilla active in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
Total support to ITS and CI-MSA in Mexico.
A warm embrace to all insurrectionary groups around the world.
