The rebellions of misery
“All control systems are based on the punishment/award binomial. When punishments are disproportionate to rewards and when employers no longer have any rewards left, uprisings occur.”
In the second decade of this century, urban revolts are becoming more frequent throughout the global geography, with subtle variations in duration and intensity. Hong Kong, France, Algeria, Iraq, Haiti, Lebanon, Catalonia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Sudan, Chile, Belarus, and now the United States of America, have been the sites of massive protests widely reported in the means of mass domestication. As I have pointed out on other occasions, these demonstrations have very particular motivations that explain them; however, it is indisputable that they all possess an intangible link that serves as a common denominator of most of these mobilizations: the weariness and rage of despair.
Far from the leftist rhetoric that insists against all evidence that “as long as there is misery there will be rebellion”, what has really motivated the recent rebellions has not been “misery” but the conjunction of weariness and despair. These two factors – which drive the nostalgia for the “devil you know” and yearn for the return to the welfare state, to industrial capitalism and to the society of labour – are the causes of the widespread unrest that has led to the global revolt of our days.
It is increasingly axiomatic that “misery” only produces “misery”. That is to say, servitude, begging and even the loss of all dignity. As the proverb goes, “hunger is a bad counsellor”. She is the mother of all those specimens that hang a sign around their neck that says “I will do any work” (even for the SS, as George Steiner reminds us). Therefore, instead of creating rebels and refusers, misery breeds disease, malnutrition, mortality, fear, sexual exploitation, corruption, soldiers, police, informants and voters: human misery. Buenos Aires, Argentina. June 2020
“…Anarchism is either illegal or it’s not anarchism. That is its essence and its meaning. Its nature. For the same reason, it sometimes seems so obvious to us that we forget to insist punctiliously on the anti-authoritarian and therefore, the consequently anti-systemic character of anarchism. Rabidly anti-systemic! We are against all authority. That is our maxim… That we are against the system of domination, that we are fighting against the social order as a whole, we are objecting to its order and the laws that support it. All laws have been and will be made to give legal support to oppression and domination…”
– Gustavo Rodriguez
This is an appeal to our friends, to our comrades, like-minded and not so like-minded. A warm invitation to practice beautiful disobedience and take back our lives. A call to conflict against all that exists here and now, assuming the consequences of a life at war.
For anyone who lives in the territory dominated by the Argentine State, or almost anywhere in the world, currently there is a state of alert in the face of the current situation. The appearance and expansion of covid-19 quickly became a global problem, and while we do not want to question its existence or veracity, we want to show how the “epidemiological outbreak” unmasks the harmfulness of the class society and neoliberal capitalism maintained by the States its main economic groups. “…Light in the Shadow
The enemy’s got to watch out
That only from that ancient place
The foundation stone could emerge
Which is spreading out of control
This land called
Our beloved America
And if necessary in the future
We will change the name.”
– Sergio Terenzi (el Urubu)
1. (A) INTRO MODE
The handful of reflections that follow have come to us almost unintentionally. They are one more contribution to the debate on the issues that move us; a small stop on the troubled road we are now travelling. It is good to share visions about what worries us and throw them like a bottle into the sea… Perhaps they will serve to fertilize the sowing and/or sharpen the tools suitable to advance in the realization of what we dream…To all the warriors of praxis a sincere embrace from the region that fails to dominate (as they would like) the self-proclaimed state of Sargentino. May 1000 new rebellions flourish.
II. OF BEINGS AND DEEDS
We do not underestimate or mock the many ancient pagan cultures that are seeing, in these present times, the signs of an inevitable decline throughout the entire ill-treated and agonized blue planet that we inhabit. And we don’t dismiss it because (among other things…) beyond mysticism and conspiracies, the harsh reality shows us that this IS so. We feel the vertigo of the events in our skin; and we consider that it is a “self-fulfilling prophecy”. We refuse to look the other way as it would be alienating. The question is rather: what do we do?

ARGENTINA: ON THE “INCIDENTS” IN FRONT OF THE CHILEAN CONSULATE IN BUENOS AIRES ON OCTOBER 21. AN ANARCHIC AND REVOLUTIONARY LOOK.
Again the media show raises its indignant voice, they speak of infiltrators, of Kichnerism and of the left, any issue that manages to divert attention from the conflict, excuses abound with the elections, again the damn elections, but never the rebellion, never Freedom. We all know that on the other side of the mountain range they are killing our compañerxs, the rebels who face police and military, who have rifles and machine guns pointing directly at them, choose to build barricades, grab stones, fuel and their hoods.
Faced with this climate, we chose to step forward, face to face with those who steal our lives daily, or did they forget that the police kill someone every 24 hours in Argentina? It is extremely hypocritical that those who say they stand in solidarity with a social revolt defend the police, the banks and the press. What solidarity do they talk to us about? That is nothing more than political use of circumstances to go to hang their flags again when the next day they return to their well-off neighborhoods and their hierarchical logics. (more…)

In August, we invite all the individuals and groups that feel close to the fate of our companion Santiago Maldonado, disappeared and murdered by the Argentine State.
From the 1st of August let’s see our anger, our proposals to the conflict, our unwavering will. Nothing has ended for us, we are sparks that can go on and off, but we will always be there.
Let’s unfold our beautiful creativities, activities, meetings, marches, whatever we want. That’s what our freedom is about, that’s what it’s about to remember our fallen brothers and sisters.
Let anarchy overflow the confines and margins of this disgusting society.
Neither martyrs nor heroes!
Active memory with us!
Long live anarchy!
Invitamos a que en el mes de agosto todas las individualidades y colectivos que se sienten cercanos al destino que tuvo nuestro compañero Santiago Maldonado, desaparecido y asesinado por el Estado argentino.
Solidarity to imprisoned comrade Anahi Salcedo, wounded after the detonation of an explosive device (Argentina)
Friday, May 3rd, 2019
Note from Anarquia: As mentioned in November 2018, Anahí Salcedo detonated an explosive device in the region of Argentina. Since then this individual has been in prison and has been denied medical attention. We do not want to give more information at the request of the support group and affinities. The situation has not changed, but in front of the scenario that this individual is living, its diffusion is necessary.
Three months after being transferred to Ezeiza prison from the Fernández hospital, Anahí was taken out for studies, kinesiology and general medical consultations, some inside the prison and others in different hospitals, with secret shifts and transfers guarded by anti-“terrorist” special forces. Although we know that the Terrorist is the State.
It was not due to the humane treatment of the Federal Penitentiary Service or to the will of Judge Ercolini or due to the Courts 1 and 2 of Lomas de Zamora, who delayed all this time denying Anahi the exits, so impeding the treatment, kicking habeas corpus from one court to another; (one presented collectively, that not only claimed for the medical attention but also for the nefarious conditions of the module suffered by Anahí and the compañeras) doing its fundamental part of the work for this system of torture. Anahi Salcedo has been held in Ezeiza Prison since January 10th. She is on remand accused of the explosive attack against the tomb of the infamous, genocidal torturer, Commissioner Ramón Falcón, Chief of the Argentine Federal Police that took place on November 14th, 2018 – 109 years since Falcón was executed by Anarchist comrade Simón Radowitzky.
Anahi received serious injuries to her hand and face, allegedly following the premature detonation of a homemade explosive device at the tomb. At the time of her arrest, Anahi lost three fingers on one hand and suffered serious injuries to the rest of her body including a fracture of the clavicle on her other arm. (more…)

Note from the Chilean blog Publicacion Refractario: Despite the continuous contradictory information that has come to us from different factions regarding the detained comrades on the other side of the mountain range, which is related to the fact that their situation is not being publicized- their names, the charges, everything that happened has been silenced. We prefer to publish the communique from the ‘Union of Lawyers and Attorneys’ who are quite clear about the recent events that have taken place in the Argentine territory… Against silence and indifference: To spread the insurrectionist anti-prison solidarity.
All the detained anarchists defended by our union have been processed and placed in preventive detention.
In total there are 12 anarchist political prisoners.
One is accused of throwing an explosive device at Judge Bonadio’s car. His name is Marco Viola.
Two others are accused of having attacked the tomb of the criminal chief of the Federal Police Colonel Ramón Falcón. Their names are Anahi Salcedo and Hugo Rodriguez.
There was a raid on a social center in the Barrio of Constitución, in CABA (Autonomous City of Buenos Aires) and all they detained everybody who was meeting in this place, some with more permanence, others circumstantially.
ALL OF THEM have been accused of EVERYTHING.
They are all under investigation for being part of an organized structure established and created to commit offences among which are those that we have already mentioned.
Bail was refused for all of the detainees.
Now Judge Ercolini has indicted all of the accused.
The prosecution ruling for PREVENTIVE DETENTION was passed.
They have ordered that ALL the anarchist detainees remain imprisoned for their trial.
The Union will appeal the resolution.
Union of Lawyers and Attorneys.
Argentina: Without Fear & With Perseverance Let’s Extend the Offensive! Information About the Recent Repressive Blow of the Argentine State
Wednesday, November 21st, 2018
On November 14th, two specific events took place in the city of Buenos Aires, with media coverage and a rapid police / judicial response.
During the afternoon, in the Recoleta cemetry, at the mausoleum dedicated to Colonel Ramon Falcon (assassinated by comrade Simón Radowitzky) – a bomb explodes leaving the comrade Anahi Salcedo wounded, she is transferred to Fernandez hospital and detained with wounds to her face and skull as well as the loss of three fingers on one of her hands. She is currently in an induced coma. At the same place, comrade Hugo Rodriguez was arrested.
Hours later, outside the home of Judge Bonadio (famous for his hard line, his indelible past with the youth of the iron guard- a Peronist fascist group, and his current practice and discourse against anti-conservatism and repression of dissenting sectors and individuals opposed to the current order), comrade Marco Viola is arrested, accused of throwing an explosive device at the magistrate’s car.
At dawn, and throughout the following days, various spaces of the anarchic environment including squats, neighborhood centers and private homes are searched, resulting in the arrests of another 12 people.
The detainees were transferred to 2200 Cavia street where the anti-terrorist unit works, then to the police superintendence on Madariaga street, and then finally on Saturday morning they were taken to the Comodoro Py courts to testify in front of judge Ercollini and the public prosecutor Di Lello, following 72 hours of uncertainty, isolation and being subjected to who knows what by the eternally miserable wretches.
After this, two people are released, leaving a total of 10 imprisoned comrades charged with illegal association, public intimidation and possession of explosive material. The two actions unified under the same cause.
At the moment it is all prudential what can be transmitted, we know that other places are under surveillance, as well as specific people, since the government itself have confirmed the seizure of more than 100 private phones belonging to activists, and they have reopened investigations into direct actions that were carried out in the city from 2005 until the present (some claimed by anarchists and others not).
The call is clear and leaves no room for double interpretations.
Every gesture of concrete solidarity is welcome and desirable.
Do not leave the comrades kidnapped by the Argentine State alone, without fear and with perseverance extend the offensive.
ANARCHIST NIHILIST ANTI-AUTHORITARIAN COMRADES WE ARE HERE AND WE ARE STRONG
WITHOUT FEAR AND WITH MORE ANGER THAN EVER
FREEDOM FOR THE ANARCHIST PRISONERS
Saturday, November 17th, 2018
Wednesday, November 14th, in Buenos Aires, almost simultaneously, two locations were attacked with bombs. The first attack, at the Recoleta cemetery, failed unfortunately. The bomb exploded in the hands of one of the two people carrying out the action. It was aimed at the tomb of Ramón Falcón, a police chief who was
responsible for the murder of 11 protesters on May 1st, 1909, and who was assassinated several months later by the anarchist Simón Radowitzky. The comrade who led the attack is in a serious condition in hospital and the comrade who accompanied her was arrested.
A few hours later, a bomb was thrown at the house of Federal Judge Claudio Bonadi. The comrade who led the attack was quickly arrested as well.
On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, 10 people were arrested in a Buenos Aires squat.
As a reminder, the G20 in Buenos Aires begins in 2 weeks.
[Summary from the Argentine press, as soon as more information is published by Argentine comrades, we will publish it]
Saturday, November 4th, 2017
In the night between the 17th and 18th of October we vandalized the entrance of the Argentinian embassy in Copenhagen with paint. We also wrote the name Santiago Maldonado and a circled A.
We did this because the Argentinian state is responsible for the disappearance of the anarchist Santiago Maldonado that happened more than two months ago. A few days after our action we heard the sad news that his dead body had been found. The state and the police are responsible! We are angry!
Tuesday, October 24th, 2017
The murder of Santiago Maldonado has triggered a series of actions in Argentina. Santiago disappeared on August 1st, kidnapped by the gendarmerie, and on October 20th, it was confirmed that a dead body found in the Chubut river belonged to our compañero Santiago Maldonado. We hope that the guilty will suffer the worst possible vengeance.
Death to the murderous state, Santiago presente!
Today like last night we continue in the streets – SANTIAGO PRESENTE!
NOW YOU ARE PART OF THE EARTH THAT YOU LOVED SO MUCH
Sad are the hours that we are living. On October 20th, Sergio Maldonado (brother of Santiago) confirmed what we were all so afraid of. The body planted by the gendarmerie in the Chubut river is the compañero Santiago Maldonado.
The gendarmerie are responsible. The State is responsible. Because it was them who took him from the rebel territory of Cushamen on the first of August. (more…)
For Anarchist Comrade Santiago Maldonado, Let’s Make the Police and the State Disappear! (Chile, Argentina)
Saturday, September 30th, 2017
This September 1st marked one month since the disappearance of the anarchist comrade Santiago Maldonado at the hands of the police of the National Gendarmerie of Argentina. This took place within the context of the repression against a demonstration that included road blocks made by the Mapuche community Pu Lof in Resistance at Cashamen, in the Argentine province of Chubut.
While the anarchic agitation spread beyond borders, comrades in Argentina took to the streets to spread acts of revolt via propaganda and direct action. With arson attacks against the police, barricades and Molotov cocktails against government buildings, our comrades unleashed their rage at a situation that is as sad as it is real: the bastards have arrested and disappeared an anarchist comrade.
Because Santiago is an anarchist, and not just a young musician and artist, something the press and leftists conveniently leave out, in denouncing the state repression we make it clear that denial and silencing of the comrade’s political identity is another form of disappearance, erasing from the narrative the true motivations of his solidarity presence in the Mapuche community where he was at the time of his arrest.
We have no advice for our comrades in Argentina, we believe in them and their conviction and autonomy to continue transforming their pain into rage, spreading chaos against the world of authority, and deepening and expanding affinities in concrete experiences of confrontation and agitation. (more…)
