Report of actions against New Yogyakarta International Airport (Indonesia)

From 08.00 this morning, Communities who joined in refusal (PWPP or Community Against Eviction – Kulon Progo) of the new airport development began gathering near heavy equipment located on the border of Glagah-Palian in order to block the equipment that will destroy the coastal areas. Fish farmers also participated to confront the heavy equipment that will destroy their ponds. At around 10.00am, approximately 500 police moved the people who were occupying the heavy equipment. The community was forced to retreat. The eviction and destruction of community land with heavy machinery continued from 11.00am. (more…)

Living Up To The Name, Guerrero (Mexico)

Here is an overview that we were sent reporting on some recent events in Guerrero, written by a Mexican anarchist living in the U$A

Guerrero, considered to be one of the most violent states in Mexico, seems to be in a never ending state of chaos. Murders in the beach resort town of Acapulco, the capital city Chilpancingo, multiple clandestine grave sites and of course, the Iguala massacre. Estado Fallido, failed state, is constantly used to describe Mexico, but especially Guerrero. No doubts there, police involvement in many heinous crimes, politicians and political parties working hand in hand with organized crime. A failed state, but what is a functioning state?

Istanbul: Gezi park – Not about trees, but not about democracy either! (Turkey)

For more than three weeks now, Turkey is being shaken by massive proletarian revolt, that at its peak so far have driven into streets almost 5 million demonstrators all around the country. The movement’s immediate spark was a brutal state repression, i.e. when police crushed a demonstration against destroying and redevelopment of Gezi park in central Istanbul (right next to Taksim square, a place of infamous massacre of workers in 1977 and highly symbolical for proletarian movement in Turkey). ANTI-MINING STRUGGLE IN BRGY. ANISLAGAN PLACER SURIGAO DEL NORTE, PHILIPPINES

Anislagan, characterized by plain, rolling to hilly and mountainous terrain, with a total land area of 841.24 hectares forms part of the watershed area of Placer. Its total population is 1,392 persons (around 319households). Majority of the residents are farmers, mainly producing coconut, rice and banana. Anislagan was severely hit by typhoon Lilang in 1980’s, which practically destroyed livelihood and property. This forced the residents to engage in gold panning along the river to feed their families. (more…)
