The two anarchist comrades, Alfredo Maria Bonanno and Christos Stratigopoulos, accused of being involved in a bank robbery in Trikala, Greece have had their bail refused. Alfredo must come out of the prison now. Alfredo has serious health problems and needs medical treatment.
Alfredo Maria Bonanno remains inside the prison based on his ideas and long reputation as a writer and theorist of anarchism. An anarchism which is not yet dead, which is not yet decaying in the pages of history but is very much alive and growing in ferocity. An anarchism which will tear a hole in the guts of the European Union.
An anarchism long based in the South European ‘Mediterranean Triangle’, of Greece, Italy, and Spain, however finding fertile, rich ground to spread within many more minds not held by any borders, who are receptive to the anarchist vision of a future world without Church, State and Capital. Neither subjugation nor poverty.
This is an anarchism of freedom, joy and solidarity. An anarchism of stones and fire, of subversion and attack. This is the dynamite that explodes against the class enemy in Santaigo, Chile; the broken and smashed banks of countless dead cities of the USA & UK; the burnt BMW and Porsche of Berlin and Hamburg, Germany, which light up the night-sky for a precious passer-by; the gas-canister defence of Thessaloniki and Athens now turned quite deadly.
This is the anarchism of a complicit glance exchanged in a hostile crowd, or in a queue, or at work; sometimes like a smile, a warm expression of joy, sometimes like a friend who picks you up from the dirty punch you took all your life, or sometimes like the bullets which will find themselves periodically in the heads of powerful individuals and their pawns.
Alfredo; a writer who never betrayed his ideas in the pen and ink of conjecture, but wrote his words to express the realities around him, insights which came from the living social struggle that still remains in the hearts of many people, who will never stop dreaming about a beautiful life that has been denied to them by the prison society of capitalism and power.
This is an anarchism which cannot be jailed, cannot be repressed, cannot be put out, because it does not belong to anyone. This is an anarchism, which through the simple methods which people use to defend themselves from oppression, communicates itself through resistance and so finds friends everywhere that people have not given up hope that they can change the conditions that make their life miserable.

On the 3.2 some anarchists paid a short visit to the Greek consulate in Berlin, located at the Wittenberg square. With a banner reading in both Greek and German „The passion for freedom is stronger than any prison – Freedom to Alfredo Bonanno and Christos Stratigopoulos“ we raised attention on the situation of the two comrades imprisoned in Greece. A translation of the letter sent to “Eleftherotipia” newspaper on the occasion of Polys (Polykarpos) Georgiades and Vaggelis Chrisohoides jury on 2/2 on the accusations of providing refuge to a “criminal” and being part of his “criminal association”. Vassilis Palaiokostas is on the run, after his escape with a helicopter from Korydallos prison, on Feb. 22/2009, accused for robbing banks and kidnapping industrialists. It is worth to say, he has never harmed human life, not even cop lives to avoid an arrest. On the opposite, he and his older brother (a legendary bank robber and escapee, currently held in prison) are said to have helped many poor people and communities in mainland Greece’ mountains where they come from and are often said to find refuge at, continuing a tradition of “social robbery” that blossom around the Balkans since the decline of the Ottoman Empire.
“On the occasion of the upcoming jury on the kidnapping of the industrialist G. Mylonas, that begins on Tuesday February 2, I would like to clarify certain issues.
Through different periods of my life I have been a first line fugitive, nearly 12 years in total an escapee (I hope there’s more of that coming) and 8 years a prisoner. (more…)

Compañeras and comrades,
From within a climate of daily anarchist action and the brutal repression of every aspect of our lives I am taking the liberty of informing you of two important developments concerning the detention of Alfredo Bonanno.
As you already know Alfredo Bonanno and Christos Stratigopoulos were transferred to Korydallos prison one day before the transfer of the murderer Korkonea to the prison of Amfissa.
There, the pharmacy refused to grant him his medication for diabetes and severe pain in the shoulder caused by a tumour diagnosed by doctors at the health centre of Amfissa. Following pressure from their comrades a doctor sent by the Italian Embassy visited him in prison where his serious state of health was confirmed.
I would like to inform you that at this time the investigator in Trikala is deliberating the application for Alfredo’s release on bail.
Following the new detention measures of the Ministry of Justice, Bonanno’s advanced age (73 years), his compromised health and his detention for a misdemeanor (given that Stratigopoulos has assumed responsibility for the armed robbery), it is patently clear that his continued detention is an exemplary one of political revenge.
Alfredo Bonanno is a revolutionary anarchist comrade and a writer of many works. That is why he is being held, if it wasn’t him, he would already be free until the trial.
But for us, for whom solidarity is our weapon and who know that in any uprising we will be dynamite, we will not abandon our comrade. We demand the immediate release of Alfredo Bonanno.
Freedom now for Alfredo Bonanno.
Ps. The following fax has been sent to the Minister of Justice Trasparency and Human Rights, Athens, the Italian Embassy in Athens and the press.
We wish to denounce the abusive and illegal detention of Alfredo Maria Bonanno in unacceptable conditions in the prison of Koridallos (Athens). The vindictive politic of the State is aimed at the physical and psychological annihilation of the 73-year old comrade who is facing serious health problems. Alfredo Bonanno is an anarchist, who has been involved in the movement for decades, militant in the resistance against the dictatorship of the Greek colonels (1967-1974), and writer and editor of many works.
We demand the immediate liberation of Alfredo Maria Bonanno

Alfredo Maria Bonanno and Christos Stratigopoulos, anarchists imprisoned in Greece accused of carrying out a bank robbery, have been moved from Amfissa prison to the Korydallos prison of Athens. Alfredo was throughout the move in handcuffs, and Christos without, also the bag of Alfredo was ‘lost’ in transit by the screws.
More updates to come- from the 20th Jan 2010 there will be a legal decision over the question of them coming out of the prison on bail before the upcoming trial.
Here is a new solidarity poster for the two comrades.

Yet one more episode in the chronicles of repression is now well-known to all: on October 1 Alfredo Bonanno (from Italy) and Christos Stratigopoulos (from Greece), two anarchists who have already been hit by repression on a number of occasions, were arrested in Greece following a robbery, and imprisoned in the small town of Amfissa. It is not our intention to comment on their action, which nevertheless has our full appreciation, nor will we indulge in other details concerning the comrades’ arrest, which have been abundantly exposed in previous leaflets and communiques. A communique from Greece for an arson, translated from an Athens Indymedia post on 27/12:
25 December 2009:
“In the late hours of Christmas we put up in flames 3 vehicles belonging to the Municipality of Stavroupoli in Thessaloniki. Whatever carries a state identity, escpecially like a big municipality of a big city, will always be a very good target. We chose this certain day in an attempt to reverse its mood and its moral guise, to sabotage the ridiculous festive atmosphere with the decorated trees, the mangers in the squares and with the shinny family dinners which hide a lot of hypocrisy and unhappiness. All these Christmas stupidities universally, based on spectacle and promoting the culture of mass consumption, with the anniversal humanitarianism and the “social solidarity” cannot be anything else than the confirmation of the society’s decay.
On our side we realise solidarity in a different way and make it an act through ceaseless revolutionary action till we get liberated from the chains of all authorities. So our solidarity, together with our warm greetings, we send to anarchist comrades that have been captured in the hands of the state for their decision to take part in social war.
To Gabriel Pombo Da Silva who is imprisoned in Aachen, Germany and who at this time is on hunger strike in his attempt to manifestate against the prison system for one more time and to the comrades that succour with hunger strike in various prisons around the world like Marcos Camenisch in Switzerland, Juan Carlos, Francisco, Honorio and Albert in Spain, Diego in Argentina and Sergio, Mike and Evelyn in Italy.
To Tamara that was arrested only 10 days ago and is held in women prisons Wad-Ras in Barcelona and is charged of sending a mail-bomb to the secretary of the Catalan penitentiary services.
Also to our detained comrades in Mexico, Chile, Usa, France, Italy and Serbia.
Besides the above list there are hundreds more that live the hell of prison and oppose it with dignity as their are comrades that in order to avoid it are wanted by the authorities and others that are as well wanted with a money reward on top and many more that are under various restrictions and are awaiting trials.
To end, it will be impossible to forget and to not make a reference of honour to our dead comrades with the most recent examples being the shot dead by cops young Alexis Grigoropoulos, the shot and stabbed to death russian antifas Fedor Filatov and Ivan Khutorskoi and also Zoe from France and Mauricio Morales from Chile that found death when their homemade bombs exploded in different cases.

Keratsini is the municipality where the police raided the anarchist space Resalto and then raided the occupied town Hall as well, arresting 22 in Resalto and 41 in the Town Hall. The 41 arrested in the Town Hall were set free December 7.
The 22 arrested from Resalto were set free December 7 at 6.30 am. They were recieved by people in solidarity that were standing outside the court of Piraeus. Four are set free without conditions, one has to pay a bail of 15000 euro, two have to pay 5000 euro each, six have to pay 3000 euro each, and the rest with other restrictions (can’t leave the country, have to be present at a police station every some days).
What follows is a communication from the comrades of the Resalto centre. (more…)

9-12-2009 : RECENT DAYS HAVE SEEN INCREDIBLE JUNTA ORGIES IN GREECE
1 ) Cops with guns in the demonstrations.
2 ) Motorbike raids against protesters.
3 ) Cops following peaceful demonstrators in their tracks, wild and indiscriminate arrests.
4 ) Staged events such as the alleged assassination attempt against the rector of the Pritanea.
5 ) An enormous number of vague and even criminal charges and arresting people young and old.
6 ) Closing schools on the pretext of swine flu and the merciless beating of students who wanted to get to their schools.
7 ) Undercover cops kidnapping young protesters.
8 ) Higher level visible collaboration between Golden Dawn neo-nazis and the Police.
9 ) Secret meetings between Chrysohoides and the bosses of the TV channels and journalists to decide on how TV reporting was going to be done over these days.
10 ) Secret covert cameras and helicopters hovering constantly.
11 ) Zero tolerance makes a bitter orange and a stone against a bank a felony and a pretext for a police attack.
12 ) BAN on demonstrations and political gatherings in the conversion areas with massive police intimidation and outrageous controls/databasing.
13 ) Hacker attacks on indymedia, and sites of squatted places and TVXS (no borders TV), deleting comments.
14 ) Invasion and PREVENTIVE ARRESTS in many self-managed spaces.
15 ) In an Orwellian way anarchists and the rebels are referred to “fascists and Nazis!”.
16 ) Junta-like removal of asylum [in the universities].
AND HOW MUCH MORE!
Some of these things happened in isolation, and some only happened before under the junta in 1967-1974; others have never happened before, only now.
They never ever happened altogether in such a short space of time!
It seems that the crash which happened here and they are hiding, like the indomitable December, has the power to activate an emergency plan, a new ‘PLASTER CAST’ [repeating the pronuncement of the junta in 1967].
These moments are more than historical. We are witnessing for the first time since 1967 an attempt to impose a fascist police coup. If a parliamentary democracy are able to commit those crimes, the junta is something different and we have all have begun to understand that. The anarchist slogans in the streets are beginning to say bluntly: “DOWN THE JUNTA”.
A collusion of prosecutors, rectors, the upper classes, TV media and police, and still we do not know what other local and foreign forces have been mustered. You hear of missing people. The climate is heavy like under the junta.
THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO BE SILENT! THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO RELAX!
EVERYBODY IN THE STREETS – SQUATS EVERYWHERE!
PLEASE HELP TO SMASH DOWN THE GREEK JUNTA!
THE REGIME IS GOING THE WAY OF 1967!

Panayiotis Masouras is accused of being a member of the ‘Conspiracy of Cells of Fire’.
On Wednesday September 23 and at 8.15 as I was leaving my house in Galatsi on my way to the gym, I was arrested by 25 persons of the anti-terrorist squad.
In a matter of seconds I found myself on the sidewalk, hands cuffed behind my back, while at the same time they were informing their senior officers that “everything went well” and that they “have me”. I was taken to the 12th floor of Police Headquarters (note: anti-terrorist division). The next day I am informed that at the same time with me another two friends of mine have also been arrested.
In the meantime the show has already started. Without any sleep for 48 hours and physically exhausted, with my face to the wall and then a long questionnaire following, while at the same time some police officer goes from office to office announcing in a delirium of pleasure that what is happening is called war. The forced migration from the “developing” world to that of the “civilized” West is something indisputable. The anti-terrorist witch hunt by the dominants and the pounce on natural wealth in every corner of the planet, led to the uprooting of thousands of people, either by military or economic terms. One of the destinations for this migration is also Greece, which through international state agreements, is directly responsible for the economic exploitation and military conditions that led these people to imigration, trying to to escape poverty, in response to this blackmailing dilemma of death or flee.

One year after the mass mobilization in Greek prisons with the participation of around 10,000 prisoners out of the near 12,000 nothing has changed. Despite the various promises made by politicians and ministers of justice the conditions in these hellholes remain appalling and overcrowding remains the norm.
One year after the prisoners start again with mass mobilizations. In the last two days 3176 prisoners from 7 out of the 36 prisons that exist refuse prison food making demands about improving the prison conditions and their earlier release. The state fears that there will be a domino effect and that soon other prisons will follow. We can only wish that its worst fears become true.
