The following interview is the 3rd part in an ongoing dialogue between anarchist comrade Alfredo Cospito, who is currently imprisoned at Ferrara Prison, and the editors of the Italian anarchist newspaper Vetriolo [Vitriol]. As far as we know, the first part of the interview has not been made available in English, however part two was translated by the Abolition Media Worldwide comrades in April 2019. Vetriolo have published the interview in parts, and have plans to publish the interview in its entirety in a forthcoming publication. We hope that we have captured the original spirit of the interview with our translation, however we are acutely aware of the possibility that some errors may have been made and we welcome any correspondence regarding any errors that may need correcting. To request copies of Vetriolo, they can be contacted via vetriolo[at]autistici.org
In some of your recent writings you have wanted to open a debate on: action and affinity groups, individual actions, claims of responsibility, ways to informally organize oneself among anarchists and propaganda through direct action. There are many different experiences that reach the present day, many and diverse within the different tensions of anarchism. We do not believe that there is, for the anarchism of action, an unavailability or impossibility with respect to the current historical context. Anarchists, in different ways and in every age, have always acted “here and now”. We would like to ask you, evaluating these experiences and different ways of acting and organizing in a horizontal and anti-authoritarian way: could one say that there is, especially in Italy, an ideological prejudice against “informal organization”, “anarchist groups”, and “claims of responsibility”? Equally, is the debate, which often ends up in mockery for its own sake, far from being able to confirm absolute validity or theoretical-practical evidence regarding “reproducibility, informality, anonymity”, in the Italian context conditioned by methodical, functional and a priori productive calculations, in a distorted logic of “factions”?
The “ideological” prejudice against informal organisation here is nothing new. Although there is no doubt that some concretizations of informal practice are more acceptable to “classical” anarchist organising than others. The “small” reproducible, unclaimed actions against structures of domination, without initials of any kind, create fewer problems than actions that endanger the lives of men and women in power, especially if these are claimed with initials that have a constancy over time. The former compared to the latter are more acceptable to the “movement” for the simple reason that they give rise to less intense repression by the State. The rejection of insurrectionism or informal experiences such as FAI/FRI by “classical” anarchism is almost always motivated as an “ethical” rejection of violence and specifically of certain actions (bomb attacks, arson attacks, parcel bombs, knee-cappings, expropriations…). 12/6/20: Pending further information we learn from the regime press that this morning the judiciary in Rome carried out 7 arrests resulting in 5 people being taken to jail within a repressive operation named “Bialystok”.
Arrests in Rome [one arrest was made near Almerìa, Spain, and one in Saint Etienne, France, with the collaboration of police of those respective states]
The comrades Daniele, Nico, Francesca, Falla, Flavia, Claudio and Robi, have been arrested, perhaps for 270bis and instigation.
Named “operation Bialystock”, according to the newspapers seven comrades have been arrested with the accusation of association for the purpose of terrorism or subversion of the democratic order, act of terrorism with deadly devices and explosives, possession of and carrying explosive material, instigation to commit crimes against State personalities as well as fire and aggravated damage with the purpose of terrorism and subversion of the democratic order.
The investigations started after the explosive attack on the Roma San Giovanni carabinieri barracks on December 7 2017.
Translated by Act for freedom now!
About the Bialystok operation
The umpteenth anti-anarchist repressive operation began at dawn on 12/06/20 in the territories dominated by the Italian, French and Spanish states. In grand style, wearing balaclavas and carrying weapons, the guards searched several houses, seized the usual equipment and arrested 7 people, 5 of them are in jail and 2 under house arrest.
Nothing new under the starry sky.
The charges that the state moves against them are various, including the usual subversive conspiracy to commit terrorism as well as arson, incitement to commit crimes, etc., etc..
Now, it is not important to stay behind their judicial quibbles, but it is necessary to reiterate that direct action, mutual support, rejection of all hierarchy and all authorities and that the practice of solidarity are an expression of our anarchic tension.
We are not interested in entering into the logic of innocent / guilty, the individuals affected are our comrades and will have our closeness, solidarity and complicity.
To each their own.

On the night of June 10, 2020 the building of Criminal Investigations Department (Kyiv, 25, Naberezhne highway) was attacked by petrol bomb.
The other day appalling news came from Kagarlyk, Ukraine, where on the night of May 24, police officers assaulted and raped a woman who had been summoned as a witness. The details – policemen put a gas mask on a woman, handcuffed her and shot from their duty weapons above her head – flashed around the nation.
Same kind of news come from the other side of the Dnepr river, where police officers who killed a five-year-old boy in Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi were released from prison on bail.
Since the beginning of this quarantine the police flooded the streets of Kyiv. Control and police pressure have increased, unwarranted and unjustified inspections have become more frequent. Like the conduct of the police in Kyiv’s Podol: stop-and-search inspections of passersby under false pretenses, solicitation of bribes, beatings in police stations.
These episodes are merely details of the big puzzle. “Police reforms” remain a complete waste of time, because police is an instrument of violence in the hands of the State. It is criminal per se, all misdeeds of its personnel – simply extreme manifestations of monopoly on violence.
Through our action, we slap the police in the face. We appeal to the society and to every person to join in this endeavour, to not remain indifferent, to organize themselves and to resist actively. People from Minneapolis, USA are setting an example for us – in response to the racist killing of a black man by beastly policeman, they started a real street war against state oppressors and sadists in uniform.
Society can protect itself from both the crime and the police. This requires determination, mutual assistance and self-organization – developing institutions of self-government and peoples militia.
We encourage everyone to act so all atrocities of the police and the State do not remain unpunished!
We’re calling to arms!
UPDATE: Ukranian mass-media and the police confirmed that the attack on the Criminal Investigations Department of Kyiv had taken place on the night of June 10, 2020. There are reports that fire destroyed at least one office in the building, a few more are badly damaged. Some journalists have managed to ”connect” the attack with Pavel Sheremet murder case.
Video from “Kyiv Operative” shows Kyiv firefighters putting out a fire in Criminal Investigations Department building, which was attacked by anarchists.
Greece, Thessaloniki: Support the 2 comrades released on bail accused for their anarchist identity and alleged action
Tuesday, June 9th, 2020
The 2 comrades were arrested on 27/5/20, at Thessaloniki, Greece. They are accused of attempting an explosion, possession of explosives, violence against employees, disobedience and criminal conspiracy according to a made-up indictment. At 1/6 they were released on the following terms:
1. To give presence 3 times a month at a police station,
2. Prohibition of leaving the country and
3. to pay a guarantee-bail of € 10,000 for each one (a total of € 20,000) by 15/06.
In order to ensure that the required amount is covered, so that the comrades are not remanded in custody, we use every means available for financial support. Thus we created this firefund campaign.
Solidarity is our weapon against state’s repressive tactics.
The announcement of the 2 persecuted comrades:
In the early hours of Wednesday 27/5, I am being persecuted and arrested by undercover cops (wearing civilian clothes) and OPKE (special police forces for crime prevention and suppression), in the area of Kalamaria, Thessaloniki. I was thrown on the road and the cops handcuffed me. For a long period, more than ten cops were beating me up with kicks and punches. Only when some neighbors from the adjacent apartment buildings came out, they were ordered to stop and called an undercover car to transfer me to the general police department. At first, they took me to the first floor and then to the third. They kept transferring me to different rooms-offices -amid constant humiliations, intimidations, and beatings. I ended up in the office of the head chief of the operation, who initially didn’t deal with me, focusing his interest on his colleagues, by giving his congratulations on the success of the operation.
After that, the well-known game began. He became the good cop who just wanted to help. He gave me “advice”, encouraged me to speak, and admit the actions that they were attributed to me and to cooperate in order to facilitate my position. He also played the card of the “squealer comrade” who had turned me in exchange for some money.
I remained silent to their questions, as I had to and I didn’t give any information beyond those which were written on my identity, which I had anyway. Until 9 a.m. neither the arrest nor the indictment had been announced to me, expect that they will conduct a home search in a house I had never declared, but which according to the file they had already opened for quite some time, I lived in Tsinari in a block of house-squats.
When we got to the houses – the only clue of where I lived in was a piece of anonymous information- they invaded the squats, one after the other. OPKE units, accompanied by undercover cops, broke down doors and windows, woke up my comrades, and demanded that they facilitate their “work”. The comrades showed quick reflexes and from the first moment they stood next to me with a word, a touch, by just saying “strength”. It’s worth noting that during my transfer from one house to another, they had me wear a black hood so that on the one hand I could not be recognized by other comrades who had gathered outside the squats and on the other hand I could not have eye contact with the comrades who lived there. I guess the rest is already known-their wanton adduction to the general police department for a few hours.
Then, returning to the general police department, in the same offices as before, I saw comrade Ρ.Ζ. who had been arrested and brought in a few hours after me. They left us in the same place for a few seconds and then they separated us again while giving us the case file asking us to sign it. We both denied any signature on the forged indictment as well as the process of fingerprint checks and photographs (a process that many times in the past has led anarchists to trial-parodies resting on clues of DNA mixtures and fingerprints).
Twelve hours after my arrest and after several “yellings”, they allowed me to contact my lawyer and they placed the handcuffs in the front. When we were taken to the detention cell, according to “orders from above”, they did not allow us to be in the same cell and to be in touch within the first 24 hours. On the second day of my detention, when I was taken to a medical examiner to record the injuries, the doctor who was supposed to be acting impartially, all he had to say to the escorts-cops was that “these things happen in a pursuit” and that “he can’t be sure what caused the injuries”.
On 27/05, at 8 a.m., I was arrested right at the entrance of my apartment building. Three undercover cops rushed from different directions, leaving me no time and space to react, and immobilized me.
While I was standing still on the ground, they handcuffed me, and pressed my head with their knees, and confiscate my house keys. Only when my screams incited the passers-by and the inhabitants they stopped pressing me with their knees and asked me to stop. In return, they promised not to touch me. They are probably ashamed of their practices. And they should actually. Then they took me to the general police department of Thessaloniki, in a room in the basement, where I was completely alone. After about half an hour, they picked me up again and announced to me that we were going for home research. In the presence of a prosecutor, they broke into my house, after tragic situations, as they were not sure about the floor or the apartment, they disturbed the neighbors and created tension. From inside the house, they confiscate all the electronic devices as well as a computer that I use exclusively for my work. From my personal belongings, they confiscate also my handwritten notes, unrelated to the case, as well as personal documents, and documents that happened to be in my house, such as family files that do not belong to me. Then we returned to the general police department with the confiscated items. So far I had no idea what had happened or if there were other arrests. I had no contact with lawyers nor allowed to talk to any of my people. They took me up the corridor and there I saw my comrade Δ.Σ. who was beaten and tied up. They immediately separated us so that we had no contact and led me to an empty room, handcuffed, guarded by a jailer.
After hours and after I was still tied up, I started protesting loudly.
In response, I got threats by the cops and then, after their vain attempts failed, they sent an undercover cop to “reassure” me. This episode demonstrated the essence of the claim. Defeat and vanity offer space to the enemy.
The procedures after the incident went smoothly. Two undercover cops came and showed me the case file and I refused to sign anything without the presence of a lawyer, except my rights. After that, they started the marking procedure. We both refused it.
Late in the afternoon, they took us to the detention cells, handcuffed us, and placed us together in a cell. After half an hour, the guards separated us again telling that “they had orders from above”.
The next day we went to the prosecutor and the interrogator. We were informed about the indications and asked if we had anything to say. We both asked for a deadline. Footnote: Throughout the arrest and subsequent proceedings, the undercover cops had hidden their faces and features carefully.
All of the above are not reported so that we will victimize ourselves.
It’s just a recording that can be taken into consideration for future repressive actions. Because the only purpose of the state is to repress.
What every comrade needs to do is not be afraid, not be intimidated by being targeted, and keep fighting. We don’t have anything to say about the case at the moment other than that we deny the false accusation.
For the fact that we are being targeted because of our anarchist identity, we have to say that despite the repressive mechanisms, the apathy of society and its stupefaction, we will continue to fight for a world free of bonds and guards, without laws and prohibitions, without oppression and exploitation, without humiliation and indignity.
We will continue to fight for a world of equality, solidarity, and freedom.
For a world without dominion.
Solidarity will win!

Basel, Switzerland / Violence against refugees is systematic: A call
Recently it became publicly known that systematic violence is perpetrated against refugees in the federal asylum camp in Basel (Switzerland). Obviously this violence is neither an isolated case nor is it limited to the asylum camps in Switzerland.
This violence is systematic and the system has names. Those responsible are internationally represented and operate in many different places. Let’s name them and show them that their actions bear consequences.
The spread of the coronavirus has highlighted the violence of the European migration regime – both at the EU external border as well as in local asylum camps and prisons.
This call wants to continue the intensified struggles against it.
What are federal asylum camps?
Since the spring of 2019, asylum seekers in Switzerland are being administered in so-called federal asylum centres. The accelerated asylum procedues related to the erection of these new structures do not result in fairer procedures for most of the persons affected, but in faster deportation. The federal asylum camps are often geographically isolated. The type of constuction, the location, as well as the rules imposed are reminding of prisons and other instituions that deprive people of their freedom. They are contributing to the racist constructs of the nation state and borders. (more…)

This is my sixth year in prison and has easily been the hardest. After being accused of assaulting a lieutenant on August 17, 2018, I’ve been in the SHU since. The past two years have shown me a wide scope of state brutality: physical beatings and tortures, psychological games like being kept in bare rooms with no contact to the free world, and their legal power – bringing serious new charges that could carry 20 additional years. Resistance is not a game.
During this time I’ve learned a lot; that A LOT of people get set up this way, that prison support is priceless, that they can always turn it up, and that WE can always turn it up also. Despite the harsh sanctions and restrictions, I’ve refused to be a wilting willow. Now has been the time to face them head on – whether legally with motions and pressure; casual bucking; hard bucking; leading protest for basic rights; having long talks about social, class, and prisoner consciousness; and organizing the other prisoners. Anarchists don’t hide.
One thing I couldn’t have done this without has been the outpouring of support. Fiscal support to my canteen and legal fundraiser (keep it coming pls), the uptake in letters, those who sent magazines, books and articles after we won those rights. I let me supporters and Team know this wasn’t going to be a smooth ride, that resistance is in my blood, and they’ve stuck it out. People new and long lasting have shown up when needed most. We cannot fight on the inside, without you on the outside. We are fighting cases, fighting injustice, fighting the same battles happening in the streets, inside, in close quarters.
Prisons need to be demolished, it’s a fight that can only be won on two fronts – unity inside and solidarity outside. We chop this dragon’s head off, relegate it to horror stories and museums of resistance. Together, it’s possible.
Thank you to everyone who has helped in any way, whether being kind to my partner, donating funds, showing up to trail (August 10th, see you there!).
Let’s take FTTP literal, shall we?

In the early hours of Wednesday 27/05/2020, in Thessaloniki, Greece, 2 anarchist comrades were arrested on an attempt of incendiary/explosive attack on the house of the ex member of New Democracy (the Greek governmental party) and now president of the Deposit and Loans Fund, Dimitris Stamatis.
As Greek media report, the one comrade was seen by civil cops passing by and checking the house in Kalamaria area; then the other comrade was caught at the moment he was going to plant the incendiary/explosive devices. The first comrade was caught a few hours later in Thessaloniki, riding his bike.
There was a big police research operation in the comrade’s house, and also in other comrades’ houses. More specifically, 4 squatted houses at Ano Poli area in Thessaloniki were thoroughly searched and, furthermore, there were totally 10 comrades persecuted, who were left free some hours later, as nothing was found against them.
The 2 anarchist comrades are accused for the felonies of criminal association, attempt of explosion, attempt of arson, possession and manufacturing of explosive material which could cause danger for human beings; also for offending the laws about arms, firecrackers and drugs, and for resistance and disobedience against authority.
They will pass from the examining judge on Monday 01/06/2020, in the morning, at Thessaloniki’s court. Until then, they will be held captive in the State’s hands. Calls for solidarity will be published at the next days.
Updates will follow.

It’s been 11 years since your last ride… 11 years… and we were all surprised when it was the first anniversary of your death, Mauri. The years go by, but something always remains, right?
For those of us who knew you and for those of us who knew you after your death, it has been 11 years of having you around, 11 years of continuing to propagate, breaking in, bothering, laughing loudly or in whispers, stubbornly propagating the Black Death.
How much has happened in these years, there is no rational measure that can quantify it. There are those who will say that we have lost, others that we have gained a lot, what is really important is that we continue… and that anarchy, as a concrete practice against any form of domination, as a permanent exercise, continues unrestrained. And that is why our dead people enjoy excellent health and continue to laugh, today already in other laughs.
How much you would have enjoyed the streets in these months, we smile when we imagine the answer, but you were, Mauri, in memorable days, in the chaos and its sweet deliriums. You were there, because there are those who insist on going out with you to the chaos. (more…)

Statement by Amadeu Casellas, after his release
Yesterday, May 14, I received provisional freedom, awaiting an acquittal or conviction. As you already know, justice in this state is not impartial, depending on whether the prosecutor has been military, fascist or ecclesiastical, that is already a problem for the working class. The same is the case with presidents, magistrates or judges, who depending on their ideology, can also be condemnatory or acquittal. I no longer want to talk about the state hitmen, also called Mossos d’Esquadra [police force in Catalonia], who are manipulative, corrupt and pathetic.
In any case, as you can imagine, I am very happy with my freedom, after the two years I have been unjustly locked up in prison.
But this is not over yet, because I have to go and collect the conviction or acquittal, and as you can imagine, if it is condemnatory I will have to appeal it. Among other things, because the state’s hired killers, the Mossos d’Esquadra, manipulated evidence, which was demonstrated in the trial that took place on the 5th and 6th, as well as other evidence that was manipulated by themselves.
I want to thank all the Grup de Suport for all the help they have given me during these two years, which has been a lot, and I hope that the next few days we can all stay together and celebrate my freedom.
And to be able to start, for those who want to participate in new struggles against the many abuses that are inside the prisons, the fact that I have come out does not mean that this has ended.
The struggle continues, because there are many Amadeus in prisons and many fascists that watch over them, torture and humiliate them. For those who want to continue organizing the struggles of the prisons in the Catalan and Spanish death centers, we will be in contact.
Thanks to everyone for your support.

SOLIDARITY WITH PRISONERS ALL OVER THE WORLD
CALL FOR INTERNATIONAL DAYS OF ACTION
The existing health crisis and its management from governments until now, globally, has unmasked the real character of authority, which was hiding itself behind the democratic mask. This oppressive system imposed an ultimate control of life, forbidding everything. Now, all civil liberties have become senseless words. This extreme condition that we live in, reveals that the prison-model is the true capitalistic model of society.
Prison is the most extreme form of bio-politics and extermination. Prisoners are under constant surveillance and control, something that, nowadays is happening to the whole society.
In this period of time, prisoners in Greek prisons are dying, one after another, from minor causes such as rotten teeth etc. Selim Zerolari and Azizel Demiroglou were two prisoners that we were informed about their deaths, this month. Mass media, of course, managed to conceal or distort these news. Furthermore, the state has grabbed the opportunity, due to the curfew, to move the most active prisoners, anarchists and others, into other prisons. Silence in the streets gives more power to the state to repress the voices of the imprisoned people.
Incarceration has always been, and remains, a form of torture and a tool of submission for authority. If we don’t resist to this modern totalitarianism, we will live in this prison-society, which states systematically impose.
Throughout the planet, in the face of the corona virus threat, prisoners stacked in prisons and migrant concentration camps are shouting: We are prisoners, not death row convicts!
Korinthos migrant concentration camp, Greece: 1,200 migrants go on hunger strike, March ‘20
Italy, March ‘20: 27 prisons in revolt due to the corona virus, many prisoners killed in the clashes
Argentina, April ‘20: Revolt in Concordia prison, guards respond with shootings
Palmasola, Bolivia, May ‘20: 2 prisoners left to die from the corona virus, prisoners revolt
