Each year the end of August (23-30.8.) is the time for the International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners. And to make sure that you know what this week is about and why it is needed we made an interview with a comrade who is part of the group that organized this years’ Week of Solidarity.
This audio has been published originally as part of the International Anarchist Radio Network’s “Bad News” show #15 (September 2018), which you can find here.

Madrid, Spanish State: Sabotage Within the Framework of the International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners
Thursday, September 27th, 2018
During the International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners more than a dozen ATMs in different neighborhoods of Madrid were sabotaged. The tools for these types of sabotage and simple and easy: hammers and sprays.
We understand solidarity as a continuity of the struggle that has led to our compañerxs being held in the prisons of the State. Anarchist solidarity is much more than just a written word or doing assistance work with the prisoners. This solidarity is materialized via attacks against the structures of capitalism and State, and seeks to deepen the conflict through direct action.
Down with the walls of the prisons. Long live anarchy.

On August 30th, 2018, a group of comrades took the street in front of the transition house of the president-elect of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador. There, they briefly blocked traffic and showered the police, media and bystanders with flyers denouncing the judicial corruption and state repression being carried out against community members of Eloxochitlán de Flores Magón, Oaxaca. The banner blocking the highway read: Freedom to the Prisoners of Eloxochitlán de Flores Magón—Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners.
This action kicks off a series of events planned in the lead up to anarchist prisoner Miguel Peralta’s final court date on September 28th, 2018. We encourage you all to remain attentive to upcoming events and actions.
Free all prisoners! Down with the Prison Walls!
Eloxochitlán de Flores Magón is a municipality located in the Sierra Mazateca in the state of Oaxaca. The majority of the inhabitants speak Mazateco and the municipality is registered beneath the Internal Normative System, or Uses and Customs of Indigenous communities. (more…)

There is a new text, which came out from the cooperation of some people from couple of Anarchist Black Cross groups and Crimethinc. It is published in connection with both the ongoing prison strike in US and the global week of solidarity with anarchist prisoners. ABC Czech Republic asked us to share and spread the article:

Why bother writing to politicians when all they deserve is our hatred? They will never listen to appeals from social reformers or the unwashed, nevermind the misguided anarchists. Why don’t you write to locked-up anarchists instead, cheer them up and strike up a conversation? One of the most important and simple ways we have available to break the isolation imposed on our imprisoned comrades is to write to them and let them know that they are not forgotten but are present. Nothing stops when you enter prison and we can meet them there with our international solidarity which is taking place on many fronts.
Here is a good PDF guide to prisoner correspondence written by ABC Leeds some years ago but still relevant today, plus a list of anarchist prisoners compiled by the international groups of the Anarchist Black Cross for the week of solidarity taking place at the moment:

Till all are free – International Week of Solidarity with Anarchist Prisoners
In 2013 the groups comprising the Anarchist Black Cross initiated the Week for Anarchist Prisoners, which takes place in the last week of August. The first day, chosen on purpose, is the anniversary of the execution of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti in 1927. It’s important to emphasize the stories of our
comrades, since many of them will not be acknowledged as political prisoners.
Various state services of surveillance requested to speak with comrades as part of ongoing investigations, using the suspects’ political orientation as the only criterion. This orientation is toward anarchism. Every investigation is based on the possibility of prosecuting comrades with the aid of an arsenal of laws aimed against a dangerous domestic enemy.
These prosecutions could involve anything, from texts until any sort of direct action, and this practice is nothing new since similar prosecutions in many
countries of the world have been witnessed in the past, especially those with a strong presence of anarchists who promote direct action and interventions. A tactic of the forces of repression is to prevent anarchist propaganda and the diffusion of our ideas and for that they won’t hesitate to puncture the veneer of “democracy” which supposedly allows the free dissemination of ideas and information. Thus, any illusions people might like to have about democracy come to an end. Things have now become clear, the anarchist action or discourse will either become illegal or mean nothing”! This new form of repression that appeared now, is enforced against many of our captives, even under the guise of international “terrorism” which actually aims to target the domestic enemy that anarchy is. On one hand our captives have been prosecuted based on their political identity and on the other by having taken the political responsibility of their actions and their organizations. The strategy of preventive repression, of persecutions leading to convictions with the maximum possible sentences, of fast-track trials and of an effort to muzzle dissent, is already being enforced against anarchist centres and self-organized efforts that support and disseminate anarchist values. Simultaneously, the latest trial hearings constitute a final rehearsal of a new doctrine the state wants to enforce. (more…)

CALL FOR AN INDEPENDENT MATERIALS FAIR – ACTIVITY OF THE SIXTH INTERNATIONAL WEEK FOR ANARCHIST PRISONERS
In response to the call for a “Sixth International Week in Solidarity For Anarchist Prisoners,” which will take place all over the world from the 23rd to the 30th of August, there will be a first winter fair of independent materials on August 25th.
This is an open call for anyone who wants to send us proposals with an anti-authoritarian focus to add to the activity. In addition, it is mainly an invitation to participate in this initiative that will happen in the “Tia Estela Space” , a squat of homeless people located underneath the so-called “Alcântara Machado Bridge” in São Paulo. Any contribution to self-management of this space is welcome.
The struggle for freedom is impossible without fighting against prisons. These disgusting spaces are surrounded by walls, violent forms of control, security devices and constant vigilance. Without such a
structure it would be impossible for any state or any government to remain in power. It is necessary to see prison not only as the main tool of domination against the subversive people who prefer war to the passivity of the masses, but also as a laboratory of the system and one of the main means to perpetuate slavery and work. Soli-poster for the upcoming week of solidarity with our comrades who are locked up and on the run.
Across the world our imprisoned comrades are held hostage for their acts of war against this decaying and rotten civilisation which is destroying and artificialising everything. They acted using the means available to them: explosives, fire, weapons, determination, courage and the dream of freedom. Let’s never leave them alone but instead light up the nights and days with our burning rage…
All our posters, -unless you have access to a pro printer-, are better printed out at high-res on a basic desktop printer in black & white and then enlarged into A3 photocopy or above and pasted on the streets with wallpaper paste. Photocopier ink doesn’t run as bad as desktop ink when paste hits. In the streets…

We are coming back with global week of solidarity with anarchist prisoners. Since last year, a lot has changed in our countries, but the general tendency is going in the worse direction with more repressions applied against anarchists not only in Europe but worldwide. With this in mind, we are calling for sixth annual week of solidarity!
Last year lots of people sent us their reports from different parts of the world and we hope that this year the tradition will grow even bigger. We need to support our comrades! Use this week to spread the information about anarchists behind bars. Don’t have prisoners in your country? No worry, support prisoners from other countries in your region or use those days to raise awareness of repression mechanisms and how anarchist communities can fight against them!
Build up security culture, support your local anarchist prisoners and fight back.
Do not hesitate to continue sending your reports to firstname.lastname@example.org!
Nobody is free till all are free!

On the international solidarity week for anarchist prisoners, August, 23rd—30th
It’s been years now that the various state agencies of repression order the conduct of investigation under the sole criterion the suspects’ political status. This is the status of the anarchist, mainly of the one who turns his/her ideas into actions, of the one that arms his/her desires and attacks state authority. So each investigation has to do with the possible prosecution of comrades according to the laws of their “democracy.” Police prosecution that starts off with texts and extends to all possible actions is not new amongst the anarchist circles. On the contrary, there is a past record on relative prosecutions in countries such as Italy, Chile etc. where there is a strong comrade presence promoting direct action and intervention.
The common goal of contemporary international police is the prevention of anarchist propaganda, anarchist action and the spreading of our ideas. For this reason, in many cases they don’t even hesitate to put aside the refined mask of “democracy” that supposedly allows “freedom of speech and ideas.” And thus, any illusion that anyone may still hold is dissolved. Things are now clear: “anarchist action or speech is either illegal or nothing at all!” The new form of repression is currently being practiced upon many of our prisoners that find themselves under illegal restrain with accusations based on their political identity and having taken up the political responsibility for their actions as well as their organizations’. It is certain that in the future this strategy of preventive repression, of persecutions with the maximum of penalties, the fast track trials as well as the effort for isolation and silence, will be implemented everywhere, or at least it will be attempted to— apart from our prisoners, it will try to reach anarchist hangouts and self-organized places that defend and propagate the anarchist values. International solidarity week for anarchist prisoners
This year, the International solidarity week for anarchist prisoners will be spent for the fifth time in 23rd to 30th August and we come stronger than ever!
Some political prisoners are already supported, but far from all of them. Also, the supported are usually involved in authoritarian politics and not grassroots activities. Anarchist prisoners are not often well-known people, even though they might be long term activists. Their ways to fight back oppressors and wrongdoings are not necessarily following the current laws of their location, which is judged by some authoritarian organisations. The vast amount and diversity of cases of anarchist prisoners is surprising to many.
We wanted to choose a week, so that it would be easy as possible to organise different kinds of expressions of solidarity, which would be supported by one another. The beginning of the week was chosen to be the execution date of Sacco and Vanzetti, two Italian-American anarchists, in 1927. They were convicted with very little amount of evidence, and many still consider that they were punished from their anarchist views.
Welcome to join!
Solidarity can express itself in many forms.
Please report us your done actions to the address email@example.com. You can also announce your event in advance in the same address, we list them on our page http://solidarity.international/. From the pages you can also find examples and tips of actions and support mail to anarchists, links to prisoner lists and more.
