Several police operations against revolutionary republicans across Ireland

Sunday, August 23rd, 2020

The PSNI (Police of Northern Ireland) and the Gardaí (Police of the Republic of Ireland) this week conducted a cross-border operation officially to combat the activities of the New IRA. PSNI officers made nine arrests in the North on 18 August under the Terrorism Act. The arrestees were seven men and two women, aged 26 to 50, including eight members of the Irish Socialist Republican Revolutionary Party, Saoradh. In the Republic of Ireland, the Garda also carried out a number of searches in support of the operation. These searches were carried out in Dublin, Laois, Cork and Kerry. Detectives from the PSNI Terrorism Investigation Unit obtained from the court an additional 72 hours of detention from 5 a.m. on Thursday, 20 August to interview those arrested and detained at the Musgrave Serious Crime Suite. A new operation finally took place on Friday 21 August: the PSNI searched four Saoradh premises in Belfast, Dungannon, Newry and Derry.

Note: Another man was arrested 22 August at Heathrow Airport in London in relationship to this case. The New Irish Republican Army is considered by the British security services to be the most dangerous armed Republican group and is thought to be responsible for numerous attempted attacks against police officers.

Northern Ireland: ‘Prison life under Coronavirus Lock down’ by Vegan Anarchist John Paul Wootton

Sunday, May 31st, 2020

Everyone, everywhere, will be feeling the pinch of lockdown. Nobody has been left untouched and it’s not just the direct effects making their mark.
We are seeing the indirect result too.

You will have noticed that many of the already existing problems in our society are being exacerbated. There have been plenty of reports of increased domestic abuse, mental health crises and financial instability to cite but a few examples.

But what has it all meant for the prisoners?

Well, in some senses it’s business as usual. Much of the freedom you have temporarily lost, never exists here in the first palace. And many of the freedoms you are relying on to cope, are completely beyond our reach. There are no Zoom parties, Netflix binges or streamed concerts here.

There has been an impact though.

All temporary release has stopped. This is generally used to help re-integrate people back to normal life prior to their full release. This is particularly important for those who have spent a long time in prison.
They now face being dumped at the front gate with no time to adjust and no real support.

All education and other activities have stopped. Some have been working towards qualifications (for many for the first time in their life) and are left wondering was it all for nothing. Potentially, people will be put off further self-development as a result.

All in all, probably the best way to describe prison during Covid in mindless agony made more mindless and agonizing. These days, often monotonous and lacking in purpose, are now intolerably so. As a result, there is a real danger of a spike in terms of mental illness and drug addiction. And the situation was already far from okay.

Unless, or until, we can access reliable data on things like suicide and self-harm, we won’t be able to assess the damage. But be under no illusion, there will be damage. Unfortunately, by the time the information becomes available, it may be too late.

Although you still have your modern luxuries to help you cope, some insight into our experiences is possible. Next time you use the internet, your smart phone or relax in your garden with your family, reflect that we don’t have that privilege. For just a second, put yourselves in our shoes.

Soli-demo at Russian Embassy in Dublin for ‘Network Case’ (Ireland)

Monday, February 24th, 2020

Tiocfaidh ár lá – Our Day Will Come

On Saturday the 22nd of February there was a protest held outside the Russian embassy in Dublin, Ireland in solidarity with anarchists and anti-fascists being persecuted by the Russian state. On the 10th of February, as part of “The Network” show trials and ongoing repression since 2017, seven anarchists were convicted on fabricated lies created by the Federal Security Services (FSB) the successors and continuity of KGB. Dimitry Pchelintsev received 18 years, Ilya Shakursky 16 years, Arman Sagynbaev 6 years, Andrei Chernov 14 years, Vasily Kuksov 9 years, Mikhail Kulkov 10 years and Maxim Ivankin 13 years imprisonment. The main “evidence” used against the seven were:

1) “Confessions” that were tortured out of the accused. Torture, which includes beatings, sleep deprivation and what could only be described as sexual assault from electric shocks to bodily parts.

2) Materials planted in the homes of the accused. From the very start of the trial and throughout, the defence for the accused attempted to have the “confessions” thrown out of the trial as evidence. The court refused. Its clear the state had them guilty before they were even arrested!

At the Russian embassy in Dublin the police were there before our arrival. Throughout the protest embassy staff continuously came out to take pictures of us.

The repression and tactics used by the Russian state are nothing new. Throughout the world, states fabricate “evidence” to remove anyone deemed as a danger to the power of the state.

In Ireland this can be seen in recent years with the case of the Craigavon 2, who the British state blamed on killing a cop in Craigavon, Armagh. The only evidence the state used against the two was a statement made by an individual whose father came out publicly calling his son a liar and in the trial the same witness contradicted himself. The rest of the evidence was circumstantial. The British intelligence service even had a tracking device on the car of one of the accused on the night of the shooting, which the data on the device mysteriously went missing. The Craigavon Two are still in jail doing life.

Also in Ireland in the last few days a republican Paul McIntyre was arrested and charged with the murder of journalist Lyra Mckee who was shot dead in Derry during a riot that erupted after a series of police raids on homes. The police have publicly said they have no evidence linking Paul McIntyre to the killing other than picking up shell casings. This is yet another new case of repression by the British state against their political enemy.

We send our solidarity to our comrades in Russia as well as across the world and to all those fighting oppression and being persecuted.

YOUR TORTURE WILL NOT KILL OUR IDEAS!

Northern Ireland: Writings and reflections by anarchist prisoner John Paul Wootton

Thursday, August 29th, 2019

Two writings by anarchist prisoner John Paul Wootton. The first writing is his thoughts on the injustice system and the use of prisons by the state which realistically culminates in a complete waste of time to what the claim of why prisons are used, i.e. to “rehabilitate” people that commit “crimes” to make them “better and functional members of society”.

John Paul’s second writing is a reflection on why he became vegan and why he will remain vegan. John Paul is still struggling in the prison system to gain full rights to living a more vegan life in prison.

John Paul has been imprisoned with his co-accused Brendan McConville for the last 10 years. Both men have been falsely convicted of the shooting dead of a cop in Craigavon, Ireland in 2009. Ever since the two have been fighting the injustice imposed on them by the British colonial system. (more…)

Dublin: Solidarity actions against banks and ATM’s (Ireland)

Saturday, May 11th, 2019

On a night in May, 2 banks, Bank of Ireland and an AIB were vandalized in South Dublin. Slogans of “HOMES FOR ALL”, “BURN THE BANKS”, and “CLASS WAR” spray painted on windows and walls. Also 4 ATM’s were glued up, how this was done was by using cardboard the same thickness, width, and half the length of an ATM card, inserted into the card slot and then super glue poured in. (more…)

Yellow Vest counter demo: Dublin, Ireland

Monday, January 28th, 2019

The Yellow Vests call for unity, but how can there be unity?

On Saturday, January 12th the Yellow Vests had another of their weekly marches in Dublin. Anti fascist and anti racist showed up to the march for the second week in a row.

As soon as the banner and anti fascist flag was took out yellow vesters came out of the crowd looking angry. We received a torrent of abuse and shouts of, “house our own”, “we need more racists”, “Fuck refugees”, “refugees not welcome”, “you’se are paid by George Soros”, and “Ireland for white people”. They gave a very poor attempt to take our banner and flag but couldn’t manage to succeed. We were shouted at to leave, “fuck off”. Not one out of the crowd of about 60 to 70 yellow vests supported the banner for refugees or said anything about the racists shite being spouted. We stayed and followed them in their march and we left before they attempted their joke of a direct action where they attempted to block a road for an hour, the cops moved them on before the yellow vest protest reached their hour long goal to block traffic.

The Yellow vests in Ireland are not a “leaderless movement” (more…)

Dublin: Sabotage of banks and ATMs (Ireland)

Monday, December 10th, 2018

Over a night in December acts of vandalism were carried out in Dublin against banks and ATM’s. 3 banks had locks glued up, 2 banks had message of “Homes for all” sprayed across windows, and 3 ATM’s were glued up. These acts were carried out in conjunction with struggle for housing being waged across Ireland.

These acts were but small acts of defiance and revolt against this prison society, to subvert the capitalist spectacle, if even only for a few hours. Actions like these expose the vulnerable spots of capitalism.

Reforms wont bring liberation, the state will never grant freedom. Reforms might make this prison society a little bit more nicer, but a prison is still a prison. The delusions and cowardice of the left has clearly failed. It’s parties and unions betray and sell out every time.

FUCK THE LEFT, FUCK THE RIGHT, FUCK POLITICS

FUCK THE STATE

FUCK LANDLORDS

Call for Support and Solidarity to the ‘Craigavon 2’ (Northern Ireland)

Monday, August 27th, 2018

ES – Irlanda del Norte – Llamado al apoyo y la solidaridad con los presos del caso ‘Craigavon 2″

From Sacco and Vanzetti to the Craigavon 2

A Call Out for Support and Solidarity

The 23rd of August marks the 91st anniversary of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. They were both executed in the US in 1927 for the robbery of a shoe factory and the killing of a guard and paymaster. During their trial the prosecution produced conflicting ballistic evidence and witness testimony. The defence had several witnesses testifying where the accused men were on the day of the robbery and killings. This should have proven Sacco and Vanzetti innocence but instead both were convicted and sentenced to death. They were killed for their beliefs, they were insurrectionary anarchists “that advocated relentless warfare against a violent and oppressive government.”

Like Sacco and Vanzetti, the state scapegoated Brendan McConville and John Paul Wootton (their case is known as the Craigavon 2) , for revenge over killing of a cop and two British soldiers in 2009. The cops arrested and charged several republicans in connection with the killings. In all cases the only real evidence the state had was that all the accused were republicans. Two people, John Paul Wootton and Brendan McConville were charged and convicted of the killing of the cop. Two others, Colin Duffy and Brian Shivers, were charged with the killing of the soldiers. The latter were subsequently found not guilty of the killings of the soldiers, the state had no evidence on them. (more…)

Sallynoggin Concerned Community Occupation – Dublin (Ireland)

Monday, August 20th, 2018

Our group Sallynoggin Concerned community has tonight taken a 3 story building at 10a church place, Sallynoggin. We have been forced to take direct action to keep our community safe from sexual predators. The landlord Paul Murphy, Dr Patrick Randall and the Garda [Police] have collaborated to secretly setup a sex offenders clinic without planning permission, without community consent in the heart of our community with schools, colleges and creches within meters.

Dr Patrick Randall has continuously lied to our community since we have engaged with him in July. We picketed and took direct action to force the closure of the clinic and on the 16th of July, Randall backed up by 30 Garda cut our community locks, and evacuated 2 lorry loads of client files and told us he was moving out. Dublin: Soli-demo for imprisoned hungerstrike comrade Umut Firat at Turkish Embassy (Ireland)

Thursday, February 2nd, 2017

UPDATE: Revolutionary Anarchist Prisoner Umut Fırat Ended His Hunger Strike With Victory

IRISH SOLIDARITY FOR UMUT FIRAT

On Wednesday the 1st of February there was a solidarity vigil for Umut Firat in Dublin, Ireland. Anarchists and supporters of Umut’s hunger strike gather outside the Turkish Embassy. Turkish embassy staff came out to mock the protesters. Embassy staff called the police to have get the protesters to remove a banner that was tied to the fence of the embassy. The banner said FREE UMUT FIRAT! SOLIDARITY FROM IRELAND. The police stayed on till the vigil was over.

Umut has been on hunger strike for 53 days now. He has been locked up in prison for the last 23 years. He is on hunger strike because of the statues of emergency the Turkish state has imposed since the attempted coup d’etat in July, and against the harsh prison conditions imposed by the state because it.

Since the statues of emergency Umut as well as all political prisoners held in Turkey have had prison conditioned worsened some have been put into isolation, others have been forced into cramped cells, there are forced strip searches, visiting times have been reduced and some prisoners not allowed visits at all. Report from ABC Dublin about Republican Prisoner Solidarity Events (Ireland)

Dublin Anarchist Black Cross at the Annual Anti-Internment March of Ireland

Sunday.

The Dublin Anarchist Black Cross was in attendance of this year’s anti-internment march. Prior to the march taking place the state put a block on the march from going ahead not giving the march organisers permission to march. This block did not deter people from coming out in support of the march and come out in solidarity with political prisoners in prisons in Ireland….

Over 1,000 people marched from the Busy Bee in Andersonstown in west Belfast, down the Falls Road towards Belfast City Hall. When the march reached the end of the Falls Road the Police had the road blocked with a line/siege of armored Jeeps and armed police preventing the march from reaching its destination.

The march could not go any further, a makeshift platform made from a wooden box was used by speakers to say a few words about the different campaigns they were from. There were speakers from the Justice for The Craigavon Two campaign and the Free Tony Taylor campaign. After the speakers were finished the march ended.

It is the 45th anniversary of internment – administrative detention – imprisonment without trial, which was used to try break a movement that is struggling against British imperialism in Ireland. The decades on since then not a lot has changed in Ireland and through the world, many people still being unjustly locked up and incarcerated… (more…)

Dublin: SquatCity – Update/Call out to join the Resistance! (Ireland)

Monday, March 30th, 2015

Hi, we have another update about the eviction resistance in Dublin!

Yesterday (Friday) we had court again, this time the judge had made a decision. He said the Injunction was successful, but he would delay it until May 4th. This means they will not try to evict us until then, but after that they will try to evict us.

We are hoping that the time we’ve been given will allow people to travel to help us, and for us to raise support and prepare ourselves. We’re expecting quite a heavy eviction so we’re preparing ourselves for that, and the more help we get the better chance we have of winning! We have a lot of local support but it would be great if people with experience of evictions, squatting etc could come to help in any way
they could.

We were thinking maybe some people would like to come for May Day here in Dublin, and then stay for a little while and help out with the eviction?

We managed to fight them back when they came without warning, when we weren’t prepared, so we can fight them back again now that we know when it’ll happen, we can be ready for them! We just need help!

Thank you to everyone who has sent us messages of support so far, and we hope to see you soon!

We can win this!

Solidarity to the arrested squatters in Amsterdam.

Dublin: International Callout: Help us resist eviction of SquatCity (Ireland)

Thursday, March 26th, 2015

Another update: Court was adjourned until 3pm 27 March, and may be delayed again after that. If anybody can get out and help/support us, we now have at least a little time.

Update: New email address – squatcitydublin(at)riseup.net

SquatCity (GrangeGorman), Dublin, currently resisting eviction. We are putting out an international callout for support, to help us resist the eviction of our homes, and to defend squatting in Dublin. We have been subject to a large scale eviction attempt over the last couple of days, and we are currently resisting, and appealing for help and support. Many of you would have stayed there during the International Squatters Convergence, and saw the space for yourselves.

Here is a brief timeline of what happened, as well as a short description of the space.
On Monday 23rd March, the squatted buildings at Grangegorman, where a community has been living for a year-and-a-half, was the subject of a violent attempted eviction by a large force of contractors and cops. Here is a summary of the situation.

THE SPACE:
The space consists of three houses, three converted office buildings, five warehouses, a main courtyard and two smaller yards, all home to around 30 people.
We are reclaiming unused space and building a community around it so it can be used autonomously for projects that would not be possible within the constraints of a rented space. (more…)
