Greece, Thessaloniki: Support the 2 comrades released on bail accused for their anarchist identity and alleged action
Tuesday, June 9th, 2020
The 2 comrades were arrested on 27/5/20, at Thessaloniki, Greece. They are accused of attempting an explosion, possession of explosives, violence against employees, disobedience and criminal conspiracy according to a made-up indictment. At 1/6 they were released on the following terms:
1. To give presence 3 times a month at a police station,
2. Prohibition of leaving the country and
3. to pay a guarantee-bail of € 10,000 for each one (a total of € 20,000) by 15/06.
In order to ensure that the required amount is covered, so that the comrades are not remanded in custody, we use every means available for financial support. Thus we created this firefund campaign.
Solidarity is our weapon against state’s repressive tactics.
The announcement of the 2 persecuted comrades:
In the early hours of Wednesday 27/5, I am being persecuted and arrested by undercover cops (wearing civilian clothes) and OPKE (special police forces for crime prevention and suppression), in the area of Kalamaria, Thessaloniki. I was thrown on the road and the cops handcuffed me. For a long period, more than ten cops were beating me up with kicks and punches. Only when some neighbors from the adjacent apartment buildings came out, they were ordered to stop and called an undercover car to transfer me to the general police department. At first, they took me to the first floor and then to the third. They kept transferring me to different rooms-offices -amid constant humiliations, intimidations, and beatings. I ended up in the office of the head chief of the operation, who initially didn’t deal with me, focusing his interest on his colleagues, by giving his congratulations on the success of the operation.
After that, the well-known game began. He became the good cop who just wanted to help. He gave me “advice”, encouraged me to speak, and admit the actions that they were attributed to me and to cooperate in order to facilitate my position. He also played the card of the “squealer comrade” who had turned me in exchange for some money.
I remained silent to their questions, as I had to and I didn’t give any information beyond those which were written on my identity, which I had anyway. Until 9 a.m. neither the arrest nor the indictment had been announced to me, expect that they will conduct a home search in a house I had never declared, but which according to the file they had already opened for quite some time, I lived in Tsinari in a block of house-squats.
When we got to the houses – the only clue of where I lived in was a piece of anonymous information- they invaded the squats, one after the other. OPKE units, accompanied by undercover cops, broke down doors and windows, woke up my comrades, and demanded that they facilitate their “work”. The comrades showed quick reflexes and from the first moment they stood next to me with a word, a touch, by just saying “strength”. It’s worth noting that during my transfer from one house to another, they had me wear a black hood so that on the one hand I could not be recognized by other comrades who had gathered outside the squats and on the other hand I could not have eye contact with the comrades who lived there. I guess the rest is already known-their wanton adduction to the general police department for a few hours.
Then, returning to the general police department, in the same offices as before, I saw comrade Ρ.Ζ. who had been arrested and brought in a few hours after me. They left us in the same place for a few seconds and then they separated us again while giving us the case file asking us to sign it. We both denied any signature on the forged indictment as well as the process of fingerprint checks and photographs (a process that many times in the past has led anarchists to trial-parodies resting on clues of DNA mixtures and fingerprints).
Twelve hours after my arrest and after several “yellings”, they allowed me to contact my lawyer and they placed the handcuffs in the front. When we were taken to the detention cell, according to “orders from above”, they did not allow us to be in the same cell and to be in touch within the first 24 hours. On the second day of my detention, when I was taken to a medical examiner to record the injuries, the doctor who was supposed to be acting impartially, all he had to say to the escorts-cops was that “these things happen in a pursuit” and that “he can’t be sure what caused the injuries”.
On 27/05, at 8 a.m., I was arrested right at the entrance of my apartment building. Three undercover cops rushed from different directions, leaving me no time and space to react, and immobilized me.
While I was standing still on the ground, they handcuffed me, and pressed my head with their knees, and confiscate my house keys. Only when my screams incited the passers-by and the inhabitants they stopped pressing me with their knees and asked me to stop. In return, they promised not to touch me. They are probably ashamed of their practices. And they should actually. Then they took me to the general police department of Thessaloniki, in a room in the basement, where I was completely alone. After about half an hour, they picked me up again and announced to me that we were going for home research. In the presence of a prosecutor, they broke into my house, after tragic situations, as they were not sure about the floor or the apartment, they disturbed the neighbors and created tension. From inside the house, they confiscate all the electronic devices as well as a computer that I use exclusively for my work. From my personal belongings, they confiscate also my handwritten notes, unrelated to the case, as well as personal documents, and documents that happened to be in my house, such as family files that do not belong to me. Then we returned to the general police department with the confiscated items. So far I had no idea what had happened or if there were other arrests. I had no contact with lawyers nor allowed to talk to any of my people. They took me up the corridor and there I saw my comrade Δ.Σ. who was beaten and tied up. They immediately separated us so that we had no contact and led me to an empty room, handcuffed, guarded by a jailer.
After hours and after I was still tied up, I started protesting loudly.
In response, I got threats by the cops and then, after their vain attempts failed, they sent an undercover cop to “reassure” me. This episode demonstrated the essence of the claim. Defeat and vanity offer space to the enemy.
The procedures after the incident went smoothly. Two undercover cops came and showed me the case file and I refused to sign anything without the presence of a lawyer, except my rights. After that, they started the marking procedure. We both refused it.
Late in the afternoon, they took us to the detention cells, handcuffed us, and placed us together in a cell. After half an hour, the guards separated us again telling that “they had orders from above”.
The next day we went to the prosecutor and the interrogator. We were informed about the indications and asked if we had anything to say. We both asked for a deadline. Footnote: Throughout the arrest and subsequent proceedings, the undercover cops had hidden their faces and features carefully.
All of the above are not reported so that we will victimize ourselves.
It’s just a recording that can be taken into consideration for future repressive actions. Because the only purpose of the state is to repress.
What every comrade needs to do is not be afraid, not be intimidated by being targeted, and keep fighting. We don’t have anything to say about the case at the moment other than that we deny the false accusation.
For the fact that we are being targeted because of our anarchist identity, we have to say that despite the repressive mechanisms, the apathy of society and its stupefaction, we will continue to fight for a world free of bonds and guards, without laws and prohibitions, without oppression and exploitation, without humiliation and indignity.
We will continue to fight for a world of equality, solidarity, and freedom.
For a world without dominion.
Solidarity will win!

(more…)

The Philippine government is another step closer to revealing its true self: an undemocratic, oppressive entity ready to protect and serve the interests of the powerful, wealthy, and privileged few. Before there was talk of lockdowns and quarantines during the COVID-19 pandemic, there was the issue of updating the Human Security Act, a law defining the parameters of terrorism. After many days and weeks of politicking, grandstanding, and red-tagging, Congress unveiled the 2020 Anti-Terror Bill.1
In it, the government aims to strip whatever semblance of constitutional liberties and rights are left after the Duterte administration’s stints into extrajudicial killings and human rights abuses, that have claimed upwards of 5,000 lives and left indelible marks on the lives of countless Filipino families.2
On the 28th of February 2020, the Senate passed their version of the Anti-Terror bill, with 19 senators voting yes, and only 2 voting no.3 Debate still rages in the House of Representatives on its merits and its dangers,4 however, as of the 29th of May, two congressional committees approved the Anti-Terror Bill.5 As the people of the archipelago face the greatest health crisis of this century without mass testing, public safety, and financial stability, Congress is trying to take advantage of us while we are down and already suffering from pandemic and the excesses of government. #justice4georgefloyd Let’s get this trending once again. Another black man has been taken from us by white racist cops and once again they will see our power. I send my shout out to everybody out there fighting. I say to you: keep it going, the fight is going to get hard but stay in the fight. We are Michael Brown, we are Eric Garner, let’s fight. # I can’t breathe # HANDS UP DON’T SHOOT.
I want to address the nation again and those who are in power as I sit and watch the protest. I call out President Trump on his bullshit ass comment. I say to you: those people who you call thugs, those people who you call criminals, are my people. Those people who are out there and doing what they doing, they doing it out of anger, they acting out of emotion, so calling them thugs is out of the question.
You the thug, Mr. Trump, and if you got a problem with that, I’m at Pacific Missouri Eastern Correctional Center and you can come personally and talk to to me. But calling my people thugs and criminals, watch your fucking mouth when you speak on my people.
If you would do your fucking job and send these bitch ass cops to jail they wouldn’t be out there in the first place.
Second I want to call out the bitch ass cops in the streets of America. I see you and I see what the fuck y’all doing to my people and that shit not gonna fly. I’m telling you this now: KEEP YOUR FUCKING HANDS TO YOUR SELF. DON’T ABUSE ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE PROTESTERS, WHEREVER YOU ARE IN THE WORLD, BECAUSE I AM WATCHING.
To the people out there I say to you: keep up the good fight, y’all are standing y’all ground to the max and I love every bit of what y’all doing. I love everybody out there let me tell y’all: if the police try to hurt you, y’all have a right to defend yourself.
Third. I want to call out that bitch ass cop who push that young lady to the ground. Why don’t you come push me like that… Don’t touch another woman out there, and if you got a problem you can come talk to me. Just set up an interview I’ll be more than willing to accept it.

Giuseppe, Stefania, Duccio, Leonardo, Guido, Elena and Nicole, the seven anarchists arrested on May 13th, 2020, for the «Ritrovo» operation were all released today, May 30th. Four of them are required to stay in the municipality of residence, with return at night from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The same repressive measure, but without signatures at the barracks, was also maintained for two other persons among the five who had not been arrested on May 13th, as they were only subject to the residence obligation. No restrictions were maintained for all the others.
The crime of fire with the aggravating circumstance of subversion or terrorism, of which only one person was accused, was reworded into «damage followed by fire». The accusation of «subversive association with the purpose of terrorism or subversion of the democratic order» has been dropped. The accusation of «incitement to commit a crime» remains, without the aggravating circumstance of terrorism.
The charge of fire was linked to the incendiary attack of December 16th, 2018, against some telecommunications antennas located in Monte Donato in Bologna, antennas intended for the transmission of national and local television networks. On the site was left the inscription «Turn off the antennas, awaken consciences. Solidarity with the anarchists detained and guarded». The other accusations were (and are) of incitement to delinquency, defacement, soiling and damage.
Following the arrests, the repressive forces had declared that the arrested were accused of having created a subversive-terrorist association having «the objective of affirming and spreading the anarchist-insurrectionalist ideology, as well as instigating, through the diffusion of propaganda material, the commission of acts of violence against the institutions». Furthermore, the public prosecutor’s office of Bologna, with the usual aid of the regime media, had underlined that the precautionary measures assumed a «strategic preventive valence aimed at avoiding that in any further moments of social tension, arising from the particular emergency situation», connected to the coronavirus epidemic, «other moments of a more general anti-State fight campaign could take place».

In the early hours of Wednesday 27/05/2020, in Thessaloniki, Greece, 2 anarchist comrades were arrested on an attempt of incendiary/explosive attack on the house of the ex member of New Democracy (the Greek governmental party) and now president of the Deposit and Loans Fund, Dimitris Stamatis.
As Greek media report, the one comrade was seen by civil cops passing by and checking the house in Kalamaria area; then the other comrade was caught at the moment he was going to plant the incendiary/explosive devices. The first comrade was caught a few hours later in Thessaloniki, riding his bike.
There was a big police research operation in the comrade’s house, and also in other comrades’ houses. More specifically, 4 squatted houses at Ano Poli area in Thessaloniki were thoroughly searched and, furthermore, there were totally 10 comrades persecuted, who were left free some hours later, as nothing was found against them.
The 2 anarchist comrades are accused for the felonies of criminal association, attempt of explosion, attempt of arson, possession and manufacturing of explosive material which could cause danger for human beings; also for offending the laws about arms, firecrackers and drugs, and for resistance and disobedience against authority.
They will pass from the examining judge on Monday 01/06/2020, in the morning, at Thessaloniki’s court. Until then, they will be held captive in the State’s hands. Calls for solidarity will be published at the next days.
Updates will follow.

Update on the anarchist Sardinian prisoner deported Davide Delogu, as of May 21st (from Sardegna Anarchica):
From today’s (May 21st) phone call with Davide we learn that the prisoner who had started the protest with him, since he too has been in solitary confinement since January, has broken off the protest. We bring back Davide’s message:
«He no longer continues the strike for his own reasons, but he sympathizes with me by not taking the lousy food from the prison. My conflict has increased, verbally assaulting and defying, and let Commander Rizzo come to my cell to give me explanations! But since he is a great coward, he delegates to the inspectors who come to commission me his repressive decisions and also to them as with other evil guards, at my request “if they have the courage – I tell them – to open the cell and come and tell me to my face”, but they run away. Infamous!».
The Sardinian anarchist comrade, a deported prisoner, Davide Delogu, never needed to be told of hold on in his almost 20 years in prison, he keeps his head up, continues not to submit to the barbarism, carries on his total struggle in an determined and never resigned way. Davide has never been a victim of prison repression, he doesn’t suffer harassment, at most it is he who does it.
But it is urgent to move in his support!
The total isolation to which he has been subjected for months, the continuous renewal of censorship, the continuous transfers, the book packages that are not delivered to him, the deportation from his Sardinia, the new protest that he has been carrying out since May 14th… Davide cannot carry all this weight alone. It is time to be there!
We know that in his long imprisonment he never gave ground, showing his teeth, we know that we are on the side of those who don’t accept and who don’t resign themselves, and we remain at his side unconditionally once again.
And although we are convinced that anarchist action must be a constant, we hope that especially at this time the refractory fire will transmit as much heat as possible to him.
Freedom for Davide! Davide in Sardinia!

Anarchist Giuseppe Bruna on May 11th, 2020, began hunger strike in Pavia prison (from Fuori dalla riserva):
We learn from a private letter received from Beppe that he has been on hunger strike since May 11, 2020, in response to a failed transfer from the section where he is.
He informs us that no doctor has visited him since the outbreak of the pandemic, despite the various cases of contagion found inside the prison of Pavia; he also informs us that he has not received any health treatment regarding his other pathologies.
Phone calls to his mother, sister and partner have been authorised, but in absurd conditions.
Beppe asks us to spread as much as possible his battle for a transfer to AS2 (“High Surveillance 2”). For this he will lead the hunger strike to the bitter end.
He sends a closed fist salute.

SOLIDARITY WITH PRISONERS ALL OVER THE WORLD
CALL FOR INTERNATIONAL DAYS OF ACTION
The existing health crisis and its management from governments until now, globally, has unmasked the real character of authority, which was hiding itself behind the democratic mask. This oppressive system imposed an ultimate control of life, forbidding everything. Now, all civil liberties have become senseless words. This extreme condition that we live in, reveals that the prison-model is the true capitalistic model of society.
Prison is the most extreme form of bio-politics and extermination. Prisoners are under constant surveillance and control, something that, nowadays is happening to the whole society.
In this period of time, prisoners in Greek prisons are dying, one after another, from minor causes such as rotten teeth etc. Selim Zerolari and Azizel Demiroglou were two prisoners that we were informed about their deaths, this month. Mass media, of course, managed to conceal or distort these news. Furthermore, the state has grabbed the opportunity, due to the curfew, to move the most active prisoners, anarchists and others, into other prisons. Silence in the streets gives more power to the state to repress the voices of the imprisoned people.
Incarceration has always been, and remains, a form of torture and a tool of submission for authority. If we don’t resist to this modern totalitarianism, we will live in this prison-society, which states systematically impose.
Throughout the planet, in the face of the corona virus threat, prisoners stacked in prisons and migrant concentration camps are shouting: We are prisoners, not death row convicts!
Korinthos migrant concentration camp, Greece: 1,200 migrants go on hunger strike, March ‘20
Italy, March ‘20: 27 prisons in revolt due to the corona virus, many prisoners killed in the clashes

Davide has sent us the following communiqué which we are pleased to publish, the following has been written together with a companion of his from the isolation section of the Pagliarelli prison in Palermo.
Unconditionally we will continue to stand by our comrade’s side!
LIBERTADE PRO SU KUMPANZU DAVIDE DELOGU!
DAVIDE DELOGU IN TERRA SARDA!
Cassa di sostegno per l’anarchico sardo prigioniero deportato Davide Delogu
From the South isolation section of the Pagliarelli prison in Palermo
We are two prisoners who have been thrown into the isolation section “South” of the Pagliarelli prison (in Palermo) without any judicial measure to justify it. We are Carmine Lanzetta (AS3 [detained in “High Surveillance 3” circuit]) from January in total continuous isolation started with the disciplinary isolation for 10 days that still continues, and Davide Delogu, Sardinian anarchist, from February in continuous isolation for reasons of order and security for which we should not do more than 15 days, held hostage with the revenge of total isolation.
Both of us do not bow to the annihilation in which our torturers would have us and fight against the hellish misery of this infamous section to be closed, with the consequent transfer. In half of the section there are the two of us in cells with nothing inside, far from each other. In the other half they put the prisoners in precautionary quarantine and we all use the same shower and the same phone. So we became their guinea pigs. Someone even before us tried to make a complaint to the prosecutor and complain to the magistrate, but these instances are blocked or made to disappear. There is no response to our lawyers’ complaint send via PEC e-mail either; prison administration taking advantage of the emergency of Covid-19 so the lawyers can’t enter the prison to visit us. We are in a section of isolation that had been abolished since 2000 because of the inhumanity embodied there and which is still being put in place. The cells have nothing inside, are deprived of everything: TV, radio, bathroom door, window, rags, brooms and cleaning sticks, hot water with a mini sink always plugged, a walking space that is a cubicle without a bathroom, but there’s no shortage of excrement of any kind, something we don’t dwell on. They inflict all kinds of abuse without being able to subjugate us, however, does not change the antiphon. Those who hold power in this prison are dangerous people, starting with commander Rizzo who feels omnipotent and all the hierarchs who continue with their harassment, like the deputy director who inflicts disciplinary isolation with natural ease, even though he knows in what non-human conditions he leads people. And the director Francesca Vezzana is co-responsible for all this. All this must end and we demand the closure of this section of isolation “South” and our transfer to another prison.
Therefore, from today, May 14th, 2020, we begin the food strike, refusing to go to the cubicles and unworthy walking spaces, trying to beat the bars every day for 20-30 minutes.
Let’s start the strike permanently, for now let’s avoid the hunger and thirst strike in order to keep us strong for when we will lead more incisive forms of struggle, since by limiting ourselves to these we won’t go very far, so that we can face the squadrette [groups of guards specialized in beating and massacre prisoners] that abound here, to get what we want until the end.
Updates will follow.

Our comrade has been handed over to the Spanish State this morning (May 13) and is currently in the Badajoz prison (Extremadura). He is well and strong as always. Surely he will have to stay 14 days in a mandatory quarantine and then, supposedly, be transferred to another prison. In that sense, more information will follow.
Even if we have no guarantee that the mail will work regularly, it is obvious that it will not be a virus that is responsible for the fact that the letters of your loved ones and solidarity may not reach him! So it would be better to send registered letters (also as a result of recent problems that occurred in the Porto Judiciary Police jail where Gabriel was able to receive the correspondence only by documented registered shipments).

The Local Autonomous Network (LAN) is a loose network of individuals and collectives composed of anarchist, anti-authoritarian, and autonomous activists here in the Archipelago of so-called Philippines. Since the early 2000s, the people behind the network have been consistently in contact with another regardless if they are from the southern or northern part of the Archipelago. The network has no formal membership and is presented as an informal organization. The network has its own level of understanding and trust with each other, which comes from the process of the relentless organizing, campaigning and initiating different activities and projects.
We have heard about a report published online from groups abroad about an anti-anarchist crackdown in the Philippines. The report is entitled “The Philippines—The continuing crackdown on anarchists” and was first published by the UK-based Anarchist Communist Group (ACG) and was later copied and distributed onto other international anarchist sites. Most of the people involved in Local Autonomous Network had the same reaction to this report: “this is alarming.” As this is a local matter, we decided to investigate the report and do our own research locally on what was the real situation of the anarchists on the ground.
To give context, it is true that the Duterte regime is an oppressive and repressive government, even more so than with previous presidents in previous regimes. The War on Drugs that Duterte started in 2016 and has been conducted since has killed an estimated 30,000 people; this is a fact. Some of the victims of the Extra-Judicial Killings (EJK) in the War on Drugs have been drug personalities, but hundreds of EJK victims were not even connected to any kind of drug-related issue. Continuous killings and assassinations were also conducted against leftists, dissidents, peasant leaders, community organizers, and other activists. Anarchists in the Philippines were not spared and in 2018 saw Food Not Bombs volunteers murdered and arrested. (See the report: “Four Food Not Bombs Volunteers were Killed in Philippine Drug War and One Volunteer is in Jail”.) (more…)

During the night of May 13, 2020, seven anarchists were arrested between Bologna, Milan and Tuscany, five others were required to reside in the municipality of residence and the anarchist documentation space Il Tribolo in Bologna was searched. The repressive operation, called «Ritrovo», was coordinated by the public prosecutor Stefano Dambruoso and the Carabinieri of the ROS (Raggruppamento Operativo Speciale), who carried out the arrests and searches jointly with the provincial command of the Carabinieri of Bologna.
The seven arrested are charged with article 270bis of the penal code (subversive association with the purpose of terrorism or subversion of the democratic order), the other charges relate to articles 414 (incitement to commit a crime), 639 (defacement and soiling) and 635 (damage). One person is accused of article 423 (fire) for the incendiary attack of December 16, 2018, against some telecommunications antennas located in Monte Donato in Bologna and intended for the transmission of national and local television networks. On the site was left the writing «Turn off the antennas, awaken consciences. Solidarity with the anarchists detained and under surveillance».
The repressive forces affirm that the arrested anarchists are accused of having created a subversive-terrorist association having «the objective of affirming and spreading the anarchic-insurrectionalist ideology, as well as instigating, with the diffusion of propaganda material, the commission of acts of violence against the institutions». Furthermore, the public prosecutor’s office of Bologna, with the help of the regime’s media, underlined that the precautionary measures assume a «strategic preventive value aimed at avoiding that in any further moments of social tension, arising from the particular emergency situation [linked to the coronavirus epidemic], other moments of more general anti-State struggle campaign can take place».
