Solidarity action for Greek anarchists 'Revolutionary Struggle' from Bristol (UK)

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

5 October 2011

“In Bristol last night (Wednesday October 5th) we broke into a police compound just south of the river. Under the cover of darkness we set fire to a marked police car. We didn’t hang around long enough to see whether or not it went up… we can only hope.

We did this for a few reasons. One, as a show of our anger and disgust for the police after hearing about the beating of many friends and comrades in Amsterdam during a demonstration last week.

Wednesday also marked the beginning of the trial against the ‘Revolutionary Struggle’ group in Greece. With this solidarity action we send you heart felt greetings, you are an inspiration to many, stay strong and proud.

It should go without saying that this was done as much for these reasons as for our own enjoyment. With NO feelings of obligation we enjoyed every moment from the organisation to the orchestration. And of course this is not a glorification of foreign struggles, we have a laundry list of personal/regional reasons to resist, from raids and evictions to locally imprisoned rebels.

This action was done in the spirit of what has become known as the LEGEND OF THE EVENING POST SMASHER*.”

Anon

[*Reference to a window smashing action against offices of a right-wing newspaper in Bristol, for which the cops seek a suspect from reported DNA evidence, which resulted in a local squat being raided. The cops didn’t find the man they were looking for, but made a political investigation, and seized computers, phones, papers. The newspaper, which naturally had their journalists present at the raid, tried to play a key part in the local repressive operations of the police, exactly like every other newspaper in the country. They all justified the police murder of Mark Duggan and excused the daily brutality and disgusting behaviour of the police, printing suspects photographs and spreading hatred and vengeance etc. The newspaper, known as the ‘Evening Post’ is a very typical daily newspaper owned by Northcliffe Media (formerly Northcliffe Newspapers Group), it is a large regional newspaper publisher in the UK and Central and Eastern Europe, owned by the Daily Mail and General Trust. In UK, it operates from over 30 publishing centres, and also has 18 daily titles.]

Text written by the three imprisoned members of Revolutionary Struggle about the trial of the organization which will start on October 5, 2011 (Greece)

Saturday, October 1st, 2011

The trial of the organization Revolutionary Struggle, which will begin on October 5, is the continuation of the repressive attack of the State which started in April 2010 with our arrests against the organization Revolutionary Struggle and of course the fighters involved in it.

The main purpose of the arrests, the trial but also the sentences to many years’ imprisonment that will be pronounced by the Special Court, is that the State will be able to eliminate the political threat of Revolutionary Struggle, bend our will to fight, make every fighter and every resisting person think that the political choice of armed action is hopeless, unrealistic and with no prospects.

The challenge for the State is to politically defeat Revolutionary Struggle, to defeat us, who participate in it, to defeat armed struggle and in perspective bend any desire to organize an armed proletarian counter-attack on the regime and its overthrowal and any will for an armed revolutionary attempt. Both the action of Revolutionary Struggle and the repressive policy against it are inseparable from the existing historical context, the persecution, imprisonment, trial and our condemnation concern the elimination of a political force that had and still has as its tactic the undermining of the plans of the economic and political elites to financially destroy the majority of society in the name of getting out of the system’s crisis.

The protection of the economic and political state from a threat such as Revolutionary Struggle and ensuring through repression that no armed revolutionary attempt against it will occur, has become particularly urgent lately now that the Greek State is just about to announce its final bankruptcy while the occupation by the Greek government, the IMF, the ECB and the EU is plunging the country deeper and deeper into the most cruel, brutal form of exploitation and oppression that this country has seen since the second world war.

As part of dealing with Revolutionary Struggle, the arrest and capture of members of the organization, comrades V. Stathopoulos, S. Nikitopoulos and C. Kortesis, who will be tried with us, were also arrested, while comrade K. Katsenas is still in hiding.

As well as the four comrades, who are not involved in the organisation, the State sought to widen the circle of hostaged fighters by going into massive interrogations in October 2010. At the same time they delivered a summons to K. Gourna’s companion, Marie Beracha, who will be tried with us on October 5. The State has involved M. Beracha, making a clear attempt to personally strike comrade K. Gournas, curb his desire for resistance and thereby harm the organization itself.

Despite the fact that the move of massive investigations was unproductive in terms of further prosecutions, it was definitely an opportunity to exercise further pressure on us, since by intimidating a large number of comrades, it aimed at our political isolation from the political milieu to which we belong.

Moreover, our political isolation is always an aim of the State since it is a necessary condition for achieving the final goal in the war conducted against us: our political extermination.

As a result, the attack on Revolutionary Struggle can also be interpreted as the prosecution of other comrades and the targeting of the broader political and interpersonal relations within the anarchist milieu, while a broader effort to intimidate anyone who resists is always an objective of any punitive attack.

During our trial, as members of Revolutionary Struggle who took political responsibility for participating in the organization, we can only have armed struggle as our main and central point of reference.

Our trial will be a field of political confrontation with Capital and the State; it will be a political step to defend the action and positions of our organization, where we will claim that armed struggle is over time an integral part of the revolutionary movement of the struggle and social revolution. That armed struggle is more suitable and necessary than ever, especially under the current conditions of economic crisis and modern totalitarianism that we experience after placing the people under the authority of the international financial elite by violently imposing the agenda of troika, IMF, ECB and EU.

We will defend, as we have already done, comrade L. Foundas, a member of the organization killed in a gunfight with cops during an action of the organization in preparation for an attack against the regime, an attack in accordance with the strategy of Revolutionary Struggle so as to confront the current junta of Capital and State.

As members of Revolutionary Struggle we are consistent in promoting the views and opinions of the organization from the prison and we will do the same in court.

The action and aim of Revolutionary Struggle is associated with the struggle against neoliberal globalization, with a strategy and perspective that sees the current economic crisis and consequent de-validation of the economic and political system in the eyes of the social majority, as a unique opportunity to promote the overthrowal of Capitalism and the State.

All this, which we have mentioned before in texts that we sent out from prison, will emerge in our forthcoming trial.

Within the framework of our political advocacy we made an international call of solidarity calling as political witnesses to our trial comrades who have previously fought in the ranks of armed struggle under different economic, political and social conditions and who have remained adamant and unrepentant concerning their choices and defended their struggles, paying for them with many years in prison.

Our aim is to highlight the continuity of armed struggle through a historical record of the guerrilla, to highlight the necessity and opportuneness of armed struggle as a necessary tool of the revolutionary movement, to highlight that the struggle for freedom and revolution is continuous.

We also believe that there is an imperative need to organize an international revolutionary movement. Very important to our trial is also a statement of solidarity from our comrades witnesses from the anarchist milieu who, as activists operating in other forms of struggle, through their words affirm the unity and diversity of struggling to overthrow power, annulling the divisive dilemmas of the latter such as “legality or illegality” or “mass struggle and armed struggle.” After all, we come from the anarchist milieu and have many years of experience participating in mass events, demonstrations, squats; in clashes in the streets and assemblies, as well as, some of us, experience of participating in collectives and groups.

[We also aim to highlight] the proposals of Revolutionary Struggle such as the destruction of the State and the imperative need for social self-organization and self-management, as recorded through the organization’s proclamations and through the texts written in prison, come from the traditional anarchist movement.

For us, armed struggle is a strategic plan of attack against sovereignty while pursuing the possibility of a social address, with the aim always being the sharpening of the social and class war against the State and Capital, the propaganda of armed proletarian counter-attack to overthrow the system, and social revolution.

Finally, to note that not only our arrest and detention haven’t swayed us, as our pursuers hoped, but that we are stronger than ever.

Also, that in this political battle that we will give in court and despite the years of imprisonment that will be imposed by the straw men of the regime, in the end we are the ones who will be the victors.

”’The three comrades who took responsibility for the actions of Revolutionary Struggle show that fighting for what you believe in is not a task that only the “elite” can take on. Its in everyone that has suffered in the system that has been created to control us. The state knows they are the real terrorists and as long as no one is fighting back they have nothing to fear. Its time to show them enough is enough and attack it with all means available.”’

First trial of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire ends with severe sentences (Greece)

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

19 07 2011

The verdicts and sentences were announced today in the first Conspiracy of Cells of Fire trial (the so-called “Halandri case”), and the end results are not good. The three-member tribunal imposed even longer sentences than those requested by the prosecutor. The breakdown is as follows:

Haris Hatzimichelakis: Guilty of forming a terrorist organization, manufacturing explosives, possessing explosives, and causing explosions at the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace, the home of former Interior Vice-Minister Panayiotis Hinofotis, and the home of PASOK ministers Louka Katseli and Gerasimos Arsenis. Sentenced to 25 years in prison out of a total combined sentence of 77 years.

Panayiotis Argyrou: Guilty of forming a terrorist organization, manufacturing explosives, possessing explosives, and causing explosions at the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace, the home of former Interior Vice-Minister Panayiotis Hinofotis, and the home of PASOK ministers Louka Katseli and Gerasimos Arsenis. Sentenced to 25 years in prison out of a total combined sentence of 77 years.

Giorgos Karagiannidis: Guilty of manufacturing explosives, possessing explosives, and being an accomplice to the explosion at the home of PASOK ministers Louka Katseli and Gerasimos Arsenis. Sentenced to 20 years in prison out of a total combined sentence of 32 years.

Panayiotis Masouras: Guilty of manufacturing explosives, possessing explosives, and being an accomplice to the explosion at the home of PASOK ministers Louka Katseli and Gerasimos Arsenis. Sentenced to 11 years and 6 months in prison out of a total combined sentence of 19 years. Submitted an application for a suspended sentence.

Alexandros Mitrousias: Guilty of manufacturing explosives, possessing explosives, and being an accomplice to the explosion at the home of PASOK ministers Louka Katseli and Gerasimos Arsenis. Sentenced to 11 years in prison out of a total combined sentence of 19 years. Chose not to submit an application for a suspended sentence.

Konstantina Karakatsani: Guilty of manufacturing explosives, possessing explosives, and being an accomplice to the explosion at the home of PASOK ministers Louka Katseli and Gerasimos Arsenis. Sentenced to 11 years in prison out of a total combined sentence of 19 years. Submitted an application for a suspended sentence.

Manolis Yiospas: Guilty of three misdemeanors including robbery and fraud. Sentenced to 2 years and 9 months in prison. The prosecutor initially requested that Yiospas be acquitted, and after the prison sentence was announced the prosecutor then proposed a three-year suspended sentence, which the court accepted.

Nikos Vogiatzakis: Acquitted of all charges due to lack of evidence.

Errikos Rallis:Acquitted of all charges due to lack of evidence.

Friends and relatives of the accused, but also the defence, commented on the severity in the imposition of sentences considering that for the majority of those sentenced, the court judged that their participation in the organization was of only a few months.

The state, its court and its other dogs have shown once more what happens to decent people who live for freedom.

As anarchist revolutionaries in solidarity, we from ACTFORFREEDOMNOW!-BOUBOURAS, send to our proud and dignified comrades, members and not of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire, a big flaming hug!

NOTHING IS OVER,
EVERYTHING CONTINUES!

21/6 : Update on the CCF TRIAL (Greece)

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

From Actforfreedomnow/BoubourAs

On 21/6, five of the nine accused of particiation in the organization “Conspiracy of Cells of Fire” testified.

First was Panagiotis Masouras, who immediately from the start declared that he is not apologizing but making a political statement. He spoke of the “court martial” and of a “political” trial, while he stressed that he is in the court as a “political enemy of the hostage regime” and not as a common criminal. (more…)

Letter from Errikos Rallis, accused member of the C.C.F. (Greece)

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Once someone approached a priest and asked him to confess in order to receive a pardon of sins. When he was asked of the sin that he committed he replied “simple slandering”. The priest said that he cannot do anything about this. Then he wondered how can a rapist or a murderer receive a pardon and not him. (more…)

Letter from the CCF about incidents in the trial of Dimitrakis soli-action (Greece)

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE REVOLUTIONARY ORGANISATION – CONSPIRACY OF CELLS OF FIRE – On the 10th of June there was the trial in the Evelpidon courts of the case of the occupation of the radio station Sport FM that took place in 2007 in solidarity to anarchist Giannis Dimitrakis, imprisoned for a bank robbery.

From Actforfreedomnow:

On the 10th of June there was the trial in the Evelpidon courts of the case of the occupation of the radio station Sport FM, that took place in 2007 in solidarity to anarchist Giannis Dimitrakis, imprisoned for a bank robbery. The incidents that happened that day and which concern the defendants, among which are also members of our organization, but also those gathered in solidarity and relatives, force us to speak publicly. The blows that the members of the R.O. C.C.F. Panagiotis Argirou, Damiano Bolano, Mihalis Nikolopoulos received, and also some of their co-defendants, from the EKAM (special forces) and the masked special guards of the transfer escort as well as the attack of the riot-cops on those gathered proves what cowardly pigs they are. Court dates are declared for Eco-Anarchists Silvia, Costa and Billy (Switzerland)

Friday, June 17th, 2011

On 15 April 2010, Costantino Ragusa, Silvia Guerin and Luca ‘Billy’ Bernasconi were arrested in Switzerland after a control by police. The State accuses them of planning to attack an IBM nanotechnology laboratory. Costa, Silvia and Billy are fellow anarchists who have been active in fighting for things like radical ecology and animal liberation, fighting against health hazards such as biotechnology, nanotechnology and nuclear technology and supporting and standing in solidarity with prisoners. IBM is a notorious devastator of the entire world, a corporate giant which profits from and maintains the hierarchy of the rich. Solidarity with those who fight against industrial capitalism and the new sciences of control and manipulation.

On the 19, 20 and 22 of July in Bellinzona, Switzerland, the trial will be held for the eco-anarchists Silvia Guerin, Costantino Rugusa and Luca ‘Billy’ Berlusconi. It is over a year since our comrades have been held by the Swiss authorities, whilst the investigation into the ‘crime’ for which they are accused was carried out. The charges are: planning an incendiary attack against an IBM nanotechnology research centre under construction outside Zurich, transportation and possession of explosives without jurisdiction. Accused anarchist comrades Vaggelis Stathopoulos, Christoforos Kortesis and Sarantos Nikitopoulos remain free (Greece)

Friday, June 17th, 2011

Breaking news received about the conditional freedom before trial of the 3 anarchist comrades accused of membership of the Revolutionary Organisation – Revolutionary Struggle. The 3 comrades deny their membership of the aforementioned Revolutionary Organisation, but they never backed down from the social struggle, for which the Greek State wishes to make them and their family/friends pay.

From Actforfreedomnow:

Attempted re-incarceration of three anarchists in Greece averted: Vaggelis Stathopoulos, Christoforos Kortesis and Sarantos Nikitopoulos remain free on bail pending trial.

The Appeals Committee issued a decision today, according to which the three anarchists charged in relation to the Revolutionary Struggle should not be re-incarcerated. The attempted juridical coup d’etat would see anarchists Stathopoulos, Kortesis and Nikitopoulos sent back to prison, despite the supposedly irreversible previous court decision for their release on bail.

The three had been released since April this year under bail conditions.

Solidarity actions across Greece ahead of the trial of the anarchist Aris Seirinidis on June 8th (Greece)

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

Poster for Aris

From: Occupied London:

Aris Seirinidis is an anarchist who was arrested on the evening of May 3rd, 2010, in central Athens, at a police check-point set up for an irrelevant to him case. Initially he faced a misdemeanor charge but in the end the anti-terrorist unit pulled out a forgotten case related to the shooting of a police riot van in the area of Exarcheia in the summer of 2009, which became known by the media as ‘the case of the pistolero with the sombrero and flip flops’ (due to the attire worn by the person that carried out the shooting).

The main ‘evidence’ against Aris was the matching of DNA taken from his wallet after his arrest with DNA found on one of the many surgical mask strewn around Exarcheia (due to a demo and rioting that had taken place in the summer of 2009, exactly the previous to the incident day) that was collected on the day of the shooting.

Aris’ trial will commence tomorrow, June 8th – and today has seen a series of actions across Greece in his support.

In Athens, the Council of State was blockaded by anarchists this morning. In Thessaloniki, a local radio station (fm100) was occupied and solidarity texts were read out on air. In Thessaloniki, Ioannina and Xanthi, anarchists will be setting up PA’s (mikrofoniki) and distributing texts in solidarity.

A motorcycle demonstration will commence from Athens’ Propylaea today at 17.30 and a solidarity gathering will take place at the courthouse tomorrow at 9 am, at the first-degree courthouse (Protodikeio) of Athens at 4, Degleri Str.

Against the Frame-up of anarchist comrades Christoforos Kortesis, Sarantos Nikitopoulos and Vaggelis Stathopoulos (Greece)

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

Poster for the 3

From Contra-Info:

THIS UNPRECEDENTED JURIDICAL COUP D’ETAT WILL NOT PASS!

The three comrades Christoforos Kortesis, Sarantos Nikitopoulos and Vaggelis Stathopoulos who are accused for participation in the urban guerrilla group ‘Revolutionary Struggle’ but have repeatedly denied all charges against them, have now received summons for Thursday, June 9th, at 10am ordering them to (re)present before the Appellate Judges Council that will (re)decide whether ‘to extend the pretrial detention or not.’

On the same day at 12.30, the defense lawyers of all persons involved in the same case have been called to present before the council which will issue the decree for the trial, judging who will be brought to trial and on what charges.

The juridical manipulative approach (or otherwise ‘orders from above’) for the re-imprisonment of the three anarchists, is now more than visible. What do the judges mean by the phrase ‘to extend the pretrial detention or not’ given the fact that the comrades are no longer in pretrial detention but were released on bail nearly two months ago, after an unanimous and (supposedly under the State laws) irrevocable decision issued by the Appellate Judges Council?

Does the Appellate Judges Council forget (?) to indicate that they will not decide but re-decide? It’ll be the second time (unprecedented in legal history records) that the same issue will be examined (it seems that the first judgment did not ‘fit’ in the imaginative scenarios which the anti-terrorist unit has set up regarding the three comrades). In fact, already their imprisonment has lasted twelve months, and the State laws stipulate that no council has jurisdiction to re-imprison them until they face trial.

Update on C.C.F. trial 2/6/11 Athens (Greece)

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

From Actforfreedomnow.

Update on C.C.F. trial

The defendants in the trial for the organisation “Conspiracy of Cells of Fire” might leave the court again. The reason is, the decision of the court to project in the trial dozens of photographs from their personal moments, that were found in cds and dvds that were confiscated along with their personal computers.

Snapshots from trips, carnival disguises, games, even certain… naked photographs are among the material that the Three-member appeals Court decided to show in front of all who watch the trial, despite the fact nothing of that is related with the actions of the official charges. (more…)
